To think you don’t need to stay home to look after a 15 year old?

Colleague was suppose to be in the office yesterday as we had a presentation to give. Their excuse was their child isn’t well and said child is 15.

They made a joke today that said child asked if their friend could come over as they weren’t feeling well either.

(child doesn’t have additional needs)

On the face of it YANBU - I wonder how people would react to me cancelling a whole day of patients to care for a 15 year old with a cold.

However, there's possibly more to it and you might not know the whole situation. Also, 15 year olds might vary in their ability to be independent and self caring. I was chatting the other day to a friend and she said her daughter, who's 16 and just gone to sixth form, was anxious about having to get the bus as she'd never been on the bus on her own before 😲. I can imagine her needing assistance at home.

We had a colleague do this and take the day off when her son had covid. (Just average cold symptoms not a bad case). Son is 17! Was definitely a bit 🤨. Dd is 13 and I leave her home if she's unwell and check on her by text at break and lunch

It would depend how ill they were. No-one likes to be alone if they’re feeling really awful.
