A woman is a woman

For those who have been following the Tory conference and general themes of their speeches…

How do you feel about Sunak’s speech?

I know there has been a lot of discussion on here from those who didn’t want to vote for a party that didn’t know the definition of a woman.

Rishi has stated clearly that “a woman is a woman and a man is a man.” While I’d argue that still isn’t a definition, per se, he is appeasing this way of thinking.

So I’m just wondering. Is this enough for you to vote Tory at the next election?

And people are allowed to rant. Half of MN threads are doing it in one form or another.

HettyWainty · 08/10/2023 06:15

No-one that cares about women as a priority would vote Tory.

Meanwhile, Angela and Keir plan to make it easier to change sex. Nice priority, right there.

Give us the evidence. It was the Tories planning that as recently as six years ago.

What do you mean another thread? There's nothing but anti Tory threads as everyone is shit scared to say anything positive. The issue of women being women has also got sod all to do with other policies, but that doesn't stop people from ranting about them.

Ha yes at the ‘waxing lyrical’ part.

Never. The way they've hijacked a really emotive issue for political gain makes me feel sick. The trans rights issue is being used as an easy target to appeal to bigots, along with immigration. And I say that as a woman who does have concerns regarding women's safe spaces, sport etc. It's such a hard topic that needs careful listening on both sides and this is a gross political vote grab

I know a woman is a woman and a man is a man, that sex is binary and immutable. It's not opinion. Nor is it bigoted to say it. Very tired of transwomen and their allies succeeding in erasing women. I won't vote for someone who doesn't know what a woman is.

I’d be more than tired if it was happening. It’s not. It’s a tired old transphobic trope. Are trans men erasing men?

I've never voted Tory in my life. I work for the NHS.
However understanding what a woman is seems to be beyond the parties I would normally vote for.
How can the rights of a group be protected if the group being protected can't be defined correctly?
I am politically homeless.

You and most of the country a suspect

wiseoldtree · 08/10/2023 09:12

I'd rather die than vote Tory.

Non-man, birthing person, chest feeders, etc. Of course it's happening! And it's not 'transphobic' to say it. It's femphobic to deny the fact.

And of course, no, because trans men are women and it's men (trans women) that hold the power. No way would men let themselves be erased by women and all their human rights erased as is happening now with women.

Just to be clear, which of our human rights have been erased by trans women to date? Your post indicates all of them?

I'd say it perhaps depends on how the courts/government/EHRC choose to define 'woman'. If its by gender, then yes, all of them.

BIossomtoes · 08/10/2023 09:35

Trans women hold no power whatsoever. And all those silly examples are a passing phase which have been introduced to benefit trans men, ffs.

ArabellaScott · 08/10/2023 09:40

All transwomen hold no power? What an odd thing to say.

Males are advantaged in so many ways.

Trans women hold no power whatsoever? That is a blatant lie. They are the most powerful, privileged and protected lobby group in history. "passing phase"? I think trans people might have something to say about that....

I was talking about your silly examples of the language used for the benefit of trans men being a passing phase, not trans people. Jesus, ffs learn to read.

LadyWithLapdog · 08/10/2023 09:48

@Sueveneers that is an American produced document. Regardless, I don’t think you’ll find many women disagreeing. The thread seems to be about the Tories. Why are they eroding all thus? Why are some women blaming future Labour for the Tories 13 years past and present mistakes?

Most of those things you mention have NOT been removed by the Trans movement but by spending cuts/austerity.

Men have less to fear, backed up by statistics

Of course they don’t care if females enter their sports and spaces. They will still win and can physically dominate

The females might want to protect themselves though and not do that

The reason women have lost many safe spaces is down to spending cuts, my hospital has had to put women in mens wards and vice versa due to not enough staff.

Same with cuts in funding to DV refuge's, which this thread has made me more aware of, its shocking.

We are blaming the wrong people.

Trans in female sport though is totally utterly wrong but thankfully changing.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 08/10/2023 10:03

The ‘TW’ who went to the female only rape survivors group wasn’t in anyway because of funding cuts though was it. They had a trans group to go to at the same place but they wanted into the women’s one

Theeyeballsinthesky · 08/10/2023 10:04

And yes I do blame the trans lobby which is predominantly TW. They have proactively worked for the eradication of single sex spaces for years. It didn’t just somehow magically happen!

Exactly.

The poster on here who was denied a space to a single sex rape support group because no men could have access is down to TRAs
