A woman is a woman

For those who have been following the Tory conference and general themes of their speeches…

How do you feel about Sunak’s speech?

I know there has been a lot of discussion on here from those who didn’t want to vote for a party that didn’t know the definition of a woman.

Rishi has stated clearly that “a woman is a woman and a man is a man.” While I’d argue that still isn’t a definition, per se, he is appeasing this way of thinking.

So I’m just wondering. Is this enough for you to vote Tory at the next election?

Lammy wasn't referring to women as dinosaurs! it was a general comment on those on the right of politics who have traditionally denied rights to various minority groups.

But of course rights given to trans women should not mean women then suffer and/or lose rights.

So in terms of those who deny rights to trans people who would that be?

I just read the LBC transcript, how lame his response

He can’t answer except ‘It’s never come up on the doorstep…’

All those who ‘don’t care’ and claim ‘no one cares’

TRAs are pleased you are helping out.

Loads of women care. I've had discussions with my friends and they like what Rishi is saying, but I'd describe them as those silent types who creep out of the woodwork at election time. It's an important issue for women and Labour are way off the mark.

Bananasandcorn · 07/10/2023 18:44

Lots of people including men, want to deny rights to Trans, Gays, women who want abortions, women in general, did Jenrik say women should stay at home have children?

Who do you think has been in power for 13 years and reduced the number of single sex wards in that time?

Nothing to do with the GRA.

Alika · 07/10/2023 18:44

To answer the OP - HELL no. No, no, no, no, NO.

That kind of diversion is gaslighting. Annoying from Lammy but if you’re willing to accept it up to you.

Women and trans are clearly in conflict and if we ‘hoard’ our rights it impacts them.

I’ll not vote for that blatant misogyny but yes single sex wards should increase, without the any men, ie those with legal female sex certificates

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/10/2023 18:50

I see comments daily denying that trans women exist

No you don't, not on MN. We know they exist. As male people who identify as women.

PomRuns · 07/10/2023 18:57

in my friends/family group - it’s a hot topic (we’re a mix of political beliefs). Keen to hear what kier says.
I only know one person at work who said not an issue for her but she then followed up with ‘but I’m not a feminist’. 😮

VimtoVimto · 07/10/2023 18:58

@MrsSkylerWhite and how many of those trans women pose an actual threat to women. The couple I have dealings with are shy individuals who don’t want to attract attention.

Does it matter how many of them pose an actual threat to women?

We know some do, we just don't know which ones. The same as with all other males. That's why we keep them all out of women's spaces.

VimtoVimto · 07/10/2023 19:06

You can also argue you don’t know which women are going to mug you or knife you.

Yes he was referring to women as dinosaurs Confused why would dinosaurs be mentioned in this context otherwise? He flailed about failing to explain it on the Today Programme afterwards.

You can also argue you don’t know which women are going to mug you or knife you.

What you do know, is that they're statistically less likely to do so than any random man.

tinytemper66 · 07/10/2023 19:09

God no. I would never. Would rather spoil the ballot paper than vote 🗳️ Tory.

It's far less likely that a woman would do these things though. 95% of all prisoners in the UK are male.

If women were as dangerous as men then there would be less of an argument for having single sex spaces in the first place.

This is interesting as I can honestly say I have never been in a situation where I thought a woman was going to knife me, or mug me or further to that where I thought they might sexually assault me. Whereas it would always be a concern with unknown males and sometimes with known males.

No it is not. In all the time Sunak has been pm kids are still allowed to be taught that they can change their biological sex. He’s just after easy vote wins in the run up to the election.

itsgettingweird · 07/10/2023 19:23

Not a chance.

No good having a party that says a woman is a woman who destroys every other part of our existence.

itsgettingweird · 07/10/2023 19:24

ViolettaVonVargon · 06/10/2023 07:33

No one ever admits to voting Tory on mumsnet, it’s just a klaxon to get abuse. Obviously lots do though otherwise they wouldn’t have spent the last 13 years in power

I'll happily admit to voting Tory. I did in 2019.

Not a fucking chance I'm voting for them again.

I'll wait for the manifestos of the other parties before I decide to put my X

Bananasandcorn · 07/10/2023 19:39

Totally so.

Sunak's been a major part of UK Govt for a few years now, he has also trampled all over the rights of nurses to earn a decent wage, without seeing any rises eaten up by loan repayments.

dewclaw · 07/10/2023 22:31

No chance. He has been part of a government who have ignored the whole debacle up until now and is just jumping on the bandwagon. I am far more focused on the complete annihilation of my country thanks to 13 years of Tory mismanagement.

Hersecretserviceyourmaj · 07/10/2023 22:40

Why do these threads always turn into a competition as to how many times you say you'd never vote Tory. There was a thread on this the other night.

Hersecretserviceyourmaj · 07/10/2023 23:04

Meanwhile, Angela and Keir plan to make it easier to change sex. Nice priority, right there.

LadyWithLapdog · 07/10/2023 23:23

Meanwhile, the Tories continue to shit on everything. Things have happened under their watch for 13 years: corruption, incompetence, disdain for the public, self-I’d and the rest. And tomorrow there’ll be another thread waxing lyrical about the Tories.

What do you mean another thread? There's nothing but anti Tory threads as everyone is shit scared to say anything positive. The issue of women being women has also got sod all to do with other policies, but that doesn't stop people from ranting about them.

LadyWithLapdog · 07/10/2023 23:33

Of course it’s got all to do with the Tories and all their policies. Why do people start threads on this just to obfuscate. There was another thread with an almost identical OP just the other day.
