A woman is a woman

For those who have been following the Tory conference and general themes of their speeches…

How do you feel about Sunak’s speech?

I know there has been a lot of discussion on here from those who didn’t want to vote for a party that didn’t know the definition of a woman.

Rishi has stated clearly that “a woman is a woman and a man is a man.” While I’d argue that still isn’t a definition, per se, he is appeasing this way of thinking.

So I’m just wondering. Is this enough for you to vote Tory at the next election?

If people are willing to compromise and vote for a party who will give away rights of women to single sex spaces / services / sport, what other rights would you also be willing to give away?
Assuming (for this argument) you are pro choice wrt abortion, would you also be willing to vote for a no abortion party if you preferred the rest of their policies?
(I'd like to think no UK party would go down that route, and then I see what is happening in the USA).

Its far, far more than that. It's not about 'gender', it's about sex. Its about men in women and girls restrooms, change rooms, taking their sports spots. If you you don't see how very serious this is, you're not paying attention.

I agree with @CKL987 who cares what Sunak says? the reality is, he and his party have fucked over women & children big time, today its underfunding schools.
All the things you say that have happened, have all happened under the Tories, so i don't believe a word they say.

Men in female sports, has largely been dealt with by national and international governing bodies, the Govt never lifted a finger.

That's fair enough.

Let's hope Labour aren't going to bring in self ID, a 'conversion bill' that restricts therapy for gender questioning youth, plus a raft of laws that will make it far harder to openly discuss these issues, eh?

The reason we’re here at all is due to the 2004 GRA

If that act had not been brought in we’d have zero gender issues.

no he is a spineless git

TeenDivided · 07/10/2023 17:46

@BIossomtoes But they didn't go through with it once there was a debate about the implications. Furthermore they stopped Scotland going ahead with (something or other related I forget what).

Stonewall got 'ahead of the law' taught companies what they wanted it to be not what the law was.

It has been a mess from everyone, but Labour and Lib Dems are worse.

Thats a cop out, the Conservatives have had 13 years to change that, they also have no plans what so ever to do so either.

EasternStandard · 07/10/2023 17:47

Funny how people are more interested in something that didn’t happen to the GRA that did. It changed our society for the worse for women and children.

We don’t have self ID

Labour only rowed back on Self ID recently as they realised how politically bad it could be for them. As it was for Sturgeon.

So much for women’s voices not working.

No thanks to the ‘no one cares’ lot of course.

Do what exactly?

Repeal it? What legislation do you want?

You seem to want the GRA repealed and are putting your faith in a political party that wanted to take it much further. The logic in that is non existent.

I will vote Tory the day I grow a penis.

Does that make you more favourable to the parties who think you can have a penis?

You asked me exactly the same question yesterday and i answered fully, i'm not doing it again.

I believe, correct me if i'm wrong, you think the GRA cannot now be repealed, hence your support of Badenoch and the ECHR?

What do you want the Government to do?

Theimpossiblegirl · 07/10/2023 17:54

I vote based on more than one issue.

Au contraire. It just suits you to imply I’m not as clever as you. You’re making no sense whatsoever.

No, not believing the Tories, is not being a TRA or supporting them at all.

Did you answer? If you did I can’t recall.

I’m not sure on GRA, I’ve seen both sides argued on here. Unfortunately not on same thread. I’d be interested in a legal take on what’s possible.

I would like to hear more on it being repealed but if that’s not possible I’ll go for biological sex definition in Eq A

I’m making perfect sense. The Tories have been in power for 13 years, during which gender politics have worsened considerably according to you and they’ve made an unsuccessful attempt to introduce self ID. But, on the basis that Sunak says something that suits you, somehow you think another term of them will miraculously bring about change. Madness.

Pursuit of Self ID was only reversed by Labour this year, due to Sturgeon’s battering. Very late in the cycle.

Politicians who can speak clearly, rather than women with penis etc, are a start but I’m looking for legislative change.

There is what I want in consultation stage.

I’m obviously not giving my vote to a party who calls women dinosaurs but I still want more to protect single sex spaces.

EasternStandard · 07/10/2023 18:15

‘Rights hoarding dinosaur’ that is

Fuck that quite frankly. I can’t imagine another group accepting it.

Lammy wasn't referring to women as dinosaurs! it was a general comment on those on the right of politics who have traditionally denied rights to various minority groups.

But of course rights given to trans women should not mean women then suffer and/or lose rights.
