AIBU to think this guy is a Halloween fun sponge?

Now, I hate Halloween with a passion, always have always will, so I do the Mumsnetty thing of not opening my door to Trick or Treaters on the night, but some random bloke has decided to create a set of rules and regulations that he (seriously, really seriously) expects people to follow:

With the spooky season upon us: A few people have asked me draw something up to avoid a repeat of last years Halloween. Here are a few ideas I’ve thought of – am welcoming feedback on this consultation

1. Do you really need to buy decorations and toys that are single use plastic
2. No misleading signs in shops and bakeries, pubs and public buildings. “e.g. danger keep out”
3. No flashing lights or loud noises that could be challenging to a persons of additional needs
4. No outfits that are frightening to dogs
5. No trick or treating on main roads, LTN ‘s or other special roads ONLY.
6. Any houses wishing to participate must pre-register (cannot be a house near a dog park).
7. Any snacks must be accompanied by an allergy sheet – it the responsibility of the “candy donor” to check for allergies from a responsible adult
8. Families wishing to trick or treat must pre-register 10 working days in advance and specify their route and times along side details of the fancy dress. For neighbours via this app to lodge any objections.
9. Any decorations deemed inappropriate to be removed promptly upon regular patrol
10. No children under 9

The only point I agree with is no.1 - AIBU in thinking let people live, it's one night?

You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me

what an absolute narcissistic, who does this person think they are?

I love Halloween!!!!!

I have a strong of rule of no decorations no knocking ,that’s never failed , let people live!

Lavenderandbrown · 04/10/2023 23:39

I can assure you no HOA is USA is sending employees around to check decorations. Hoa’s take your money and you’re lucky to get a few petunias planted and the common areas mowed.
24 years of Halloween (and still reusing my decorations)….
lights on if giving candy no lights if not
any kid of any age gets candy if they have some semblance of costume and say trick or treat. I don’t care how old or where they live.

no one checks for allergens. It’s all cross contaminated while being made and labeled accordingly
the under nines are the biggest trick or treaters. Really? Leave out 9 and under? That’s ridiculous
in have never had a dog or costumed dog come to my door.

I never answer the door on Halloween. If I'm at home I shut all the doors, turn all the lights off and retreat to my bedroom to watch a couple of horror films whilst stuffing down the bags of Halloween sweets that Ive bought. Although last year I was feeling quite generous and also had a ton of oranges left over. I drew scary faces on them using edible pens, and popped them in a big plastic bowl outside on my garden wall. I'd also done some baking the day before so I bagged up baked goods with a note inside stating the ingredients and then just chucked in a couple of handfuls of sweets into the bowl. By the time I'd finished work I think I had one orange left and a few soggy sweets cos of the rain. Thankfully I'm away this year for Halloween or at least I think I am. That'll probably be the day we land back in England.

Daffidale · 04/10/2023 23:55

This has got to be a wind up, surely???

BabyFireflyx · 05/10/2023 00:33

Jesus wept. It's a manuscript for how to control everyone else's Halloween. Can you imagine the script he must apply to his own daily life? He must suck the joy out of any living being who encounters him. Imagine the outfits he'd have to test out to frighten a dog? Grin

navidsonhouse · 05/10/2023 12:09

Do people really still come out with the "Halloween is an Americanism" crap.

These are the same people who need warnings on packets of nuts saying ‘Warning may contain nuts.’
And on cups of coffee ‘Warning this product may be hot.’
I’d be tempted to put on my ingredients list: ‘Warning all products contain arsenic, eat it and you will die.’

Packets of nuts have "may contain nuts" warnings because they will be packaged in a factory that handles multiple types of nuts. So someone may be able to eat walnuts, but if they have a may contain risk for hazelnuts they may prefer to avoid. This is really important as people with allergies to peanuts or some tree nuts are typically encouraged to eat other tree nuts to avoid developing further allergies, so they need to know the risk.

May contain warnings in general have no legal meaning and different companies will have different policies in terms of what they list, but it's not a nonsense warning for the thick.

Similarly, the warning on hot drinks comes out of a famous case in the US, when a woman was served coffee at too high a temperature at a McDonald's drive through. She accidentally spilled some in her lap and suffered third degree burns and life changing injuries.

Must be a pisstake

Well, he has two posters backing him up, one of whom had an issue last year with fake danger signs post all over the toilets.

Last year I had an issue in the local Pub with danger signs all over the toilets so I wasn’t sure if I could use them. Ended up having to go home to use the bathroom. Clearer signage should be mandatory. Just a simple sign to say what is a Halloween decoration what’s not would be fine.

That's hilarious 😂

Oh, it has to be a pisstake
Surely, he can't be planning a rota for patrols?😁

I beg you @Hadjab - please, pretty please,- post a question asking if the patrols get a uniform?

BarnacleBeasley · 06/10/2023 13:20

I think they are all taking the piss except for FunSponge #1, and he is a strange man who spends most of his time on the internet and has an uncertain grasp on reality.

ThinWomansBrain · 06/10/2023 13:27

Just reply that you think it's batshit encouraging young children/teens to go begging at strangers houses.

Problem solved.

Thank you so much. 😁

If he replies that you won't get a uniform, I'd be tempted to say "Oh, that's a shame, I won't bother then".

Passepartoute · 06/10/2023 14:50

He's threatening an outright ban next year if people don't comply? How on earth is he going to enforce that?

If he tries, you must let us know. I fancy putting together a massive group of Mumsnetters with children dressed as demons and ghosts to descend on your neighbourhood and knock on his door every 3 minutes.

PyramusandThisbe · 06/10/2023 14:58

I would imagine it was a weak joke, from the same stable that spawned Christmas being renamed Winterval and Muslims forbidding it and it definitely happened because my hairdresser's cousin's aunt was on the city council of Randomtown.

Boundoverbyacat · 06/10/2023 15:04

It’s just an unfunny joke from one of the many unfunny local FB ‘characters’ that some people haven’t got and some have (eg toilet pub person). I’m not sure it needed a whole thread on. I see enough of this rubbish on my own local group

IncomingTraffic · 06/10/2023 15:24

Vigilante patrols are clearly not a good idea.

RedPony1 · 06/10/2023 15:57

I'd have to decorate my house in a grim ghastly way and dress up as an awful character just to see what they tried to do!

Outright ban next year if noone listens this year - hilarious!!!

Gmama23 · 06/10/2023 16:32

Please ensure that the patrol uniform provided does not scare dogs!
