AIBU to think this guy is a Halloween fun sponge?

Now, I hate Halloween with a passion, always have always will, so I do the Mumsnetty thing of not opening my door to Trick or Treaters on the night, but some random bloke has decided to create a set of rules and regulations that he (seriously, really seriously) expects people to follow:

With the spooky season upon us: A few people have asked me draw something up to avoid a repeat of last years Halloween. Here are a few ideas I’ve thought of – am welcoming feedback on this consultation

1. Do you really need to buy decorations and toys that are single use plastic
2. No misleading signs in shops and bakeries, pubs and public buildings. “e.g. danger keep out”
3. No flashing lights or loud noises that could be challenging to a persons of additional needs
4. No outfits that are frightening to dogs
5. No trick or treating on main roads, LTN ‘s or other special roads ONLY.
6. Any houses wishing to participate must pre-register (cannot be a house near a dog park).
7. Any snacks must be accompanied by an allergy sheet – it the responsibility of the “candy donor” to check for allergies from a responsible adult
8. Families wishing to trick or treat must pre-register 10 working days in advance and specify their route and times along side details of the fancy dress. For neighbours via this app to lodge any objections.
9. Any decorations deemed inappropriate to be removed promptly upon regular patrol
10. No children under 9

The only point I agree with is no.1 - AIBU in thinking let people live, it's one night?

@stayathomer @WhatapityWapiti @MayThe4th I did wonder if it was indeed a joke, but having snooped throug his other posts, he appears to be a one man Neighbourhood Watch, a hero nobody asked for or wants.

That is also a joke. it says Mummy’s and Daddie’s for goodness sake.

You live on Kings Road?!

Well, he has two posters backing him up, one of whom had an issue last year with fake danger signs post all over the toilets.

Last year I had an issue in the local Pub with danger signs all over the toilets so I wasn’t sure if I could use them. Ended up having to go home to use the bathroom. Clearer signage should be mandatory. Just a simple sign to say what is a Halloween decoration what’s not would be fine.

Well that person clearly hasn't got many brain cells to rub together have they? They could have asked in the pub if they really weren't sure if the danger signs were decorations or not...

This would boil my piss. And I'm not even bothered one way or the other about Halloween.

I'd reply asking him who has appointed him in charge of Halloween rules but that unless he is posting in an official capacity from the council I'd be celebrating Halloween as I wished, by trick or treating with my children at houses with decorations up only. And that others were welcome at my house as indicated by our decorations, taking responsibility for their own allergies, but that if he or anyone else took it you themselves to remove decorations from my property I'd be reporting it to the police as theft.

I'd also say that any neighbours with specific concerns about children with additional needs / phobias etc were welcome to pm me so I could discuss what I had planned and would do my best to accommodate their child if possible (thinking flashing lights etc).

Children under 9 are probably the biggest group who want to engage in trick or treating so I’m guessing this guy is larking around.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 04/10/2023 12:46

Sounds bonkers!

”No outfits frightening to dogs”? Why are dogs now king of everything?

And I agree under 9s is main group t or t is aimed at - my 9 yo will still do it but he’ll be towards the older end of kids who are still into this stuff. And what a random age to pick!

London, but sadly not King's Road.

So he is suggesting that he will just decide to go onto Someone's property and remove items without the owners permission?? Could that not be classed as trespass?

Universalsnail · 04/10/2023 12:49

If this guy lived on my street I would go out of my way to be obnoxiously in your face haloweeny as possible 😂

helloeverybod · 04/10/2023 12:55

Will he take a survey from local dogs to find out what costumes are appropriate?

BarnacleBeasley · 04/10/2023 12:56

Come to think of it, my dog is scared of balloons. Could you ask him to post banning children's birthday parties?

5YearsLeft · 04/10/2023 13:00

@ColleenDonaghy Difficult to say. I totally get your point, but there ARE still people celebrating Samhain, so I’m left with the very tiny, tiny hopeful feeling that it hasn’t totally morphed into this fur-coat-no-knickers version of itself that so many seem to celebrate and that so many MNers seem to hate.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 04/10/2023 13:02

This looks like a take the piss list

Coolblur · 04/10/2023 13:03

He's nuts! Everyone knows the only rule is to leave out the houses that are not decorated. I'd love to see the comments on the post!

No unauthorised dog fighting??

So authorised dog fighting is ok??!!

1month · 04/10/2023 13:06

I’m so glad I don’t live in a posh neighbourhood as I’d absolutely hate this!

If you want trick or treaters to knock on - put out a pumpkin or decorations up.

If you don’t want knocking on, then don’t put out any pumpkins or decorations up.

That’s the way it’s always been and I wouldn’t change for these busy bodies.

IncomingTraffic · 04/10/2023 13:07

I am now imagining what this guy is like at work…

Awful. What an overzealous, officious twit.

Bruisername · 04/10/2023 13:12

Reminds me of my kids going to knock on a door with a big sign saying ‘danger! Keep out!’ And telling me they couldn’t knock. When they did a man in a gorilla suit jumped out at them and scared the bejeezus out of them. They loved it!

that list is so ridiculous it has to be parody. If someone came up and told me my kids outfit was inappropriate I would be having words

And men with hats and/or beards for my dog 365 days a year?

Passepartoute · 04/10/2023 13:17

Who on earth is going to police this? Is he planning to go and manhandle families off the street if they don't stick to their licensed route or fail to carry proof of their children's ages with them?

randomrandom · 04/10/2023 13:17

I hate Halloween but if some 'patrolled' and told me to take decorations down, they'd be told to fuck right off.

elliejjtiny · 04/10/2023 13:19

I have to ask, what on earth happened last year to cause such a strict set of rules.

Doggy mummies and daddies. OMG.

I'm so glad people are responding by taking the piss, this man sorely needs it.

weaselwords · 04/10/2023 13:21

I live close to Joe Lycett and he seems to get most of his comedy material from our local Facebook neighbourhood watch group. He’d go nuts for this gold.

Or maybe, just asking someone?

I hate Halloween but my village is really good. No lit pumpkin outside and you're left alone
