AIBU to think this guy is a Halloween fun sponge?

Now, I hate Halloween with a passion, always have always will, so I do the Mumsnetty thing of not opening my door to Trick or Treaters on the night, but some random bloke has decided to create a set of rules and regulations that he (seriously, really seriously) expects people to follow:

With the spooky season upon us: A few people have asked me draw something up to avoid a repeat of last years Halloween. Here are a few ideas I’ve thought of – am welcoming feedback on this consultation

1. Do you really need to buy decorations and toys that are single use plastic
2. No misleading signs in shops and bakeries, pubs and public buildings. “e.g. danger keep out”
3. No flashing lights or loud noises that could be challenging to a persons of additional needs
4. No outfits that are frightening to dogs
5. No trick or treating on main roads, LTN ‘s or other special roads ONLY.
6. Any houses wishing to participate must pre-register (cannot be a house near a dog park).
7. Any snacks must be accompanied by an allergy sheet – it the responsibility of the “candy donor” to check for allergies from a responsible adult
8. Families wishing to trick or treat must pre-register 10 working days in advance and specify their route and times along side details of the fancy dress. For neighbours via this app to lodge any objections.
9. Any decorations deemed inappropriate to be removed promptly upon regular patrol
10. No children under 9

The only point I agree with is no.1 - AIBU in thinking let people live, it's one night?

I'd reply with laughing faces. And rebel by going all out with decorations and signage. Obviously copied from a US site too so it's not even about his own gripes with Halloween. Noone is forced to celebrate any holiday they dont want to, just ignore it and let others have their fun and I've never known anyone to trick or treat at someone's house that doesn't have a pumpkin outside of it. And if this person cares this much about dogs, I hope they are petitioning and writing posts about silent fireworks/banning them all together. Surely that should take precident over dog-scaring costumes.

Gooseysgirl · 04/10/2023 13:25

NRTFT. This person needs their head examined. WTAF 😂 I hope everyone completely ignores it!!!

Bruisername · 04/10/2023 13:25

My dog is terrified of people in high vis jackets. I’m going to petition the local building sites to force their removal.

User57632678374 · 04/10/2023 13:33

I would be inclined to comment and ask how is anyone meant to know which costumes specifically are scary to dogs? Dog lover here who had a spaniel who didn’t bat an eyelid to fireworks ever but yelped in terror every time someone got the mop out ffs.

I have to ask, what on earth happened last year to cause such a strict set of rules.

My money is on this guy’s dog was upset by some kids in costumes. So he’s decided to decree that no one is allowed to acknowledge halloween on the main roads/near the dog park or anywhere else that might inconvenience him.

Bruisername · 04/10/2023 13:42

I don’t understand why no under 9s? I would prefer only under 11s. It’s the older kids that have always been the troublemakers- not the cute 4 year olds who respond to being told they can take 2 sweets with wide eyed excitement!

Valerianandfoxglovesoup · 04/10/2023 13:48

This would bring out the rebel in me

Sugarfish · 04/10/2023 13:48

Who is this joker? I’d be going out of my way to break all these rules. Apart from maybe the dog one. But who can say what outfit will be scary to an individual dog?

Bruisername · 04/10/2023 13:50

Don’t go dressed as a vacuum cleaner

Tinkerbyebye · 04/10/2023 13:52

My feedback would be dont be so stupid, it’s one night a year standard is if there is a pumpkin outside you are trick or treat, no pumpkin don’t knock. That’s the only rule yo7 need

MistressoftheDarkSide · 04/10/2023 14:04

Ha ha ha ha…..

My user name is probably a bit of a giveaway that I’m more Halloween / Samhain than Christmas so I would absolutely triple down on shenanigans for this chap’s benefit….

The pub person ….. if I’m unsure about toilets in a pub I either ask or watch a few other punters to get the lay of the land….

And I too have questions about last year…. Sounds like it was potentially fun….. but isn’t it sad - and more terrifying than ghosts and monsters that there are people out there who so enjoy policing others behaviour when it’s usually innocuous…. I bet he was beside himself during lockdown…..

MrTiddlesTheCat · 04/10/2023 14:11

I hate Halloween but that has inspired me to invest in a ton of plastic tat and chocolate covered peanuts.

Hibiscrubbed · 04/10/2023 14:48

So, he’s trying to police everyone who lives in Chelsea? How do people get like this?!

Kaill · 04/10/2023 14:52

Halloween decorations are not single use plastic. I have a plastic skeleton called Edward who has decorated my porch every year for over a decade, and he has many more Halloweens left in him.

YellowPeps · 04/10/2023 15:00

What an absolute flannel 😂😂

On our local fb page we have all just agreed to only knock on houses that are clearly decorated/celebrating so people that don’t want to give out sweets don’t get their door constantly knocked.
This list is just absurd 😂

Super exciting news, he's responded to my post. and liked his own response.

Rosesarere · 04/10/2023 16:23

Haha this is great, I'm gutted it's not my local page he had posted on

F1ymetothetoon · 04/10/2023 16:31

I wish this loon was on my neighbours group cos around here it's all pictures of cats and moaning about the bin collections.

lordloveadog · 04/10/2023 17:13

I can't stand Halloween but if I'd got that message I'd be decorating whole garden with tat and borrowing under 9s to trick and treat with daily from 20th Oct.

Bruisername · 04/10/2023 17:14

I still want to know what he has against under 9s!

at least they don’t ask for cash or say ‘wassup bitches’ when the door is opened!

piscofrisco · 04/10/2023 17:34

I hope he likes cleaning eggs off his windows Grin

Gooseysgirl · 04/10/2023 18:18

I have such a strong urge to bring my 9yr old and the rest of his crazy mates to Chelsea trick r treating 😆
