I've never broken a bone or given birth, but I have had some very painful periods that have made me feel like I'm going to pass out. Also terrible travel sickness / vomiting on a 20 hour trip that left me wishing for death due to how crap I felt.

Wisdom Tooth infection, Ripping my big toenail off by accident
By far the worst was being induced with no pain relief for my 2nd child and she was back to back - No idea why they wouldn’t give me anything except paracetamol
Absolutely horrific

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 04/10/2023 19:59

The worst three I have ever had was a back to back labour alongside being induced at the same time.

My baby was stuck and too far down to just do a c-section so had to be pushed back up with the midwives fist ( that was horrific, I had an epidural in place and I screamed the hospital down). (Same birth as above).

Costochondritis is horrible alongside the nerve pain from fibromyalgia plus osteoarthritis pain in my hands. I just want to rip them off most days.

UndercoverCop · 04/10/2023 20:00

Back to back induced Labour/child birth, DS got stuck and I had to have an emergency episiotomy and my epidural didn't take, gallstones second

mumoftinyterrors · 04/10/2023 20:01

Agreed. The pain element was very played down by the consultant and he only administered very light sedation 😱

I’d go one further and say bowel resection was probably the worst pain I’ve experienced

Soosi · 04/10/2023 20:02

Period pain so bad I would regularly pass out. Lost count of the times I had to be taken home from work. Once passed out on the bus going to work. I have had two children easy going in comparison !

Tapasita · 04/10/2023 20:02

Giving birth
Kidney stones

Kidney stones were just about worse. Just.

cluster headache

This. Hands down. Worse than giving birth or breaking a limb. My neurologist said he’d had grown men crying in his room, just recalling the pain of a cluster headache.

neighboursmustliveon · 04/10/2023 20:03

gall stones, by far the worst pain in my life. Even worse than labour and birth.

Ski4130 · 04/10/2023 20:04

Gallstones.

I’ve given birth three times, twice without pain relief, and I’d take any of those labours again over a flare up of gallstones.

bombastix · 04/10/2023 20:05

Broken disc, sciatica. Imagine no painkiller does anything, you can't sleep, and if you try to walk a pain shoots from your foot through your groin to your brain that makes you fall over. Have that for about two months every day.

I don't think I will ever forget that. Birth, teeth, absolutely nothing by comparison.

Britinme · 04/10/2023 20:07

Tooth abscess under a crown. It was "bang your head against the wall" time and no painkiller touched it. Eventually I got the emergency dentist out of bed at 11pm to drill through the crown to release the pressure. Worse than childbirth without pain relief.

PonkyPonky · 04/10/2023 20:08

Cellulitis by a mile! Had it in both feet and halfway up my legs. It felt like my skin was being ripped off. I remember thinking I might die from the pain. And I have given birth without pain relief and broken several bones.

CrushingOnRubies · 04/10/2023 20:09

Kidney stones

Lovesocksie · 04/10/2023 20:10

Meniscus tear, makes me wince just thinking about it

User68 · 04/10/2023 20:10

Childbirth - pushing. Ended up with emerg C-section.

Back/glute pain final 2 weeks before discovering I had caudia equina. Post surgery was a relief.

Had toothache once (infection) and would not want to experience that again!

littlemisskt · 04/10/2023 20:10

either c-section recovery or burst ovarian cysts.

Grrrrdarling · 04/10/2023 20:11

Knee injury. Damaged synovial layering around my knee cap when my legs gave way & I collapsed with my right knee taking the full weight of the fall. That injury caused my leg to swell from half way up my thigh to half way down my calf & I was unable to bend my leg for months!
I’d give birth a million times over before going through that again as childbirth for me was relatively painless. Even recovery from the c-section was painless.

AffIt · 04/10/2023 20:13

I've never been pregnant or given birth, but I've had some fairly gnarly injuries and surgeries, including breaking my neck and major open abdominal surgery that's left me with a hip-to-hip scar.

I have a very high pain threshold - I've had bones reset and a root canal performed with no analgesia.

Bizarrely though, the most pain I've ever felt was through an incredibly minor incident when I broke a bone in my hand by accidentally punching a shelf - I came over all funny and actually had to sit down with my head between my knees...

gabsdot45 · 04/10/2023 20:13

I tripped over a gardening fork while in bare feet and one of the prongs of the fork went under the nail of my big toe and lifted it straight off.
That was agony.

FootieMama · 04/10/2023 20:14

Coughing with pneumonia while recovering from a c-section. The doctor told me to hug a pillow. The fear and the pain and the inability to stop the coughing was horrible.

venus7 · 04/10/2023 20:14

Calcific tendonitis in my shoulder..........worse at night too, so very little sleep.

Dogon · 04/10/2023 20:15

Kidney infection. I've given birth. The latter was quicker so the former was much worse for me!

Fortunefavoursthebrave · 04/10/2023 20:16

Abscess on my tailbone, absolutely excruciating much worse than childbirth!

pollymere · 04/10/2023 20:16

I have had period pain that was worse than my heart attack and me giving birth. The worst was having a bug which gave me D&V whilst on my period.

The only pain worse for me but bearable because it's short is having eyebrows waxed or bikini wax. Cannulas are also equally suckish but short lived (ear piercing hurt about the same).

So waxing, periods, heart attack, giving birth...

Santina · 04/10/2023 20:18

I've had two children with no pain releife at all. The worst pain I have ever had is constipation, it felt like I had a knife being pushed up my backside, through my gut and into my stomach. I nearly pulled the sink off the wall gripping hold of it whilst sitting on the toilet. Hopefully I never experience it again.
