To ask how I can quickly lose 8 stone?

Weightlosswonders · 02/10/2023 19:27

I need to lose 8 stone as fast as possible.

In an ideal world I would do it more slowly and in the healthiest possible way but due to current circumstances, I need to lose it as quickly as possible.

Im looking into a possible meal replacement diet but that’s looking rather pricey! (Around £12 a day which is too much for one person!)

All suggestions welcome. (my interim target is 4 stone by Christmas) and I’d welcome any advice from anyone who’s down similar.

You need a 3500 calorie deficit to lose 1lb, which is why people can eat say 1400 calories a day, walk a lot/do a short workout using approx 2000 calories a day and still only lose around 1lb per week. This is why people say dieting doesn't work long term.

bellac11 · 02/10/2023 20:05

Losing lots of weight after years of being overweight is likely to result in loose skin no matter what method you use, if you're prone to it, you're prone to it, some people dont have loose skin at all after fast massive weight loss and some do

You wont have deficiences as long as you take the right supplements.

But OP, you are dodging the question as to what the reason is?

Disturbia81 · 02/10/2023 20:06

@Weightlosswonders Shakethatweight, I was 20 stone at 5ft 7 and I'm now just under 11 stone. I started in the November and was there by next August, it feels like a mountain to climb but time passes so quickly. The time passes anyway so might as well do it!

Beadyeyes91 · 02/10/2023 20:06

I lost 6 stone in 10 months with slimming world. Followed it religiously and did some walking but was mainly diet. 5 years on and I've not kept it off. Okay for a quick fix. Can't live your life counting foods such as a banana as a "syn"

Iamnotastick · 02/10/2023 20:07

Is there a medical reason why? Crash dieting is dangerous - you can put a massive strain on your heart, fuck up your metabolism, and you are more likely to crash back off it.

If you are under medical guidance then ask for a dietician referral.

Honestly, something like weight watchers is your best bet as no food is restricted, its the easiest one to stick to.

Ansjovis · 02/10/2023 20:08

You really should answer everyone who is asking you why. Anyone giving advice without knowing this is sitting on dangerous ground, morally speaking. If you care about actually keeping the weight off then doing it as quickly as possible by any means really is not the way.

HugoDarracott · 02/10/2023 20:09

Have you been to see the GP recently? Are you diabetic or prediabetic? I know progress has been made in reversing both of these on the NHS following a protocol based on the work of professor Roy Taylor. My DH is potentially getting referred to it.

In the meantime he's been prescribed Metformin and is on a low carb diet and has lost more than 30 pounds since the start of August.

Might be worth seeing if it's available to you its called the NHS Type 2 Diabetes Path to Remission Programme.

Weight loss as in purely what the number says on the scales is all about food.

Exercise helps with muscle tone, flexibility, posture, cardiovascular health, mental well-being. But if the focus is the numbers on the scale then it's about food and drink.

What, if any, medical conditions do you have that need to be considered in your plan?

What are your days to day physical requirements.

Realistically to lose 4 stone in 2 months you will need to cut your calories to 800 a day, you will not be able to get all the vitamins and nutrients that your body needs for sustained well being and you will experience muscle loss. You will also not learn how to maintain a healthy diet long term. You will be hungry and you will feel tired and deprived because you will be consuming less energy than you need.

It's doable, but it's not a good plan.

Is there a really good reason you want to do it this way?

Dita73 · 02/10/2023 20:11

I lost 8 stone in just over 9 months. I really don’t recommend it

ColdPizzaBreakfast · 02/10/2023 20:11

I'd ideally get medical advice. You want to do this in a sensible and sustainable way.

But in the meantime building up how much you move will help (even a few thousand steps a day) ... and trying to eat more healthily would be good too.

YeOldeBuxomWench · 02/10/2023 20:12

Stand on scales, lean heavily on a wall.

Usually lose stones in seconds that way.

Luxell934 · 02/10/2023 20:12

You can’t quickly lose 8 stone unfortunately, even if your doing it for health reasons.

You would have to go on an extremely low calorie diet with exercise and you’ll make yourself ill, you’ll be weak, exhausted, dizzy, starving and miserable.

If you want to lose weight for life you’ll need to do it the right way, otherwise you’ll pile it all back again and will be back to square one.

I lost 4 stone in the space of around a year. I was eating around 1000 calories a day for a few days a week which was very restrictive but it seemed to work. I also went swimming once a day. The key for me was weighing myself completely naked once every morning. You lose weight overnight and in the morning due to water loss. This meant I could keep a constant and my clothes wouldn't influence the number on the scales. When I started to watch my weight fall it gave me even more motivation to keep up the hard work and I would track it in a weight diary in my phone. I also made it a rule to say no to any food that was offered to me, especially cake and chocolates. I stopped buying sweet things because I knew I would binge otherwise. I also started calorie counting. It's amazing how I never realised how many calories were in the food I was eating. I always ate too much pasta and never realised I should only be eating 75g in 1 serving. I was probably eating double! Same goes for cereal, meat ect. Michel Mosleys fast 800 diet seems to have seen good results. The other thing I did was download an intermittent fasting app. I'm not sure if the fasting really did much for me but it restricted when I could eat. If I was feeling a bit bored and wanted a snack after my dinner I couldn't have more food because my eating time frame was over. My weight seems to fluctuate up and down now but is a lot better than it was before. Good luck OP!!

MrsJ26 · 02/10/2023 20:16

Please please consider professional advice rather than random diets recommended on here.

A good weight loss coach (make sure they have good reviews on trust pilot or similar) will be able to help you achieve that level of weight loss, but the time scale will almost certainly need adjusting.

As many people have said, getting it off is one thing. Keeping it off is more important though. So ideally you want to be setting in place new lifestyle / habits at the same time as losing the weight!

MintTrackies · 02/10/2023 20:16

Calorie count. Log calories religiously. Calculate in the James Smith Academy calculator and adjust.

Up activity (though this won’t make a huge difference)

I do think your goals are unrealistic, but you should be able to do over a kilo a week

Theoriginalmrscillianmurphy · 02/10/2023 20:17

Lipotrim. I lost five stone in three months.

lljkk · 02/10/2023 20:18

It won't happen, OP. Whatever the forces that got you to 22 stone, you can't quickly undo them.

Jingleq · 02/10/2023 20:18

Fasting and carnivore (lots of supplements) then once you’ve shed the weight introduce other foods. Really tough diet but after the first two weeks you will feel amazing

Is that the Sheffield diet? Or have I got the name wrong

I think it was instrumental in showing that getting the weight off quick, was a lot more effective and healthier than dragging it out slowly and steadily as usually advised (for pre diabetes and morbid obesity obviously)

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/10/2023 20:19

I've lost nearly 4 since Christmas, SW, it's easy and not restrictive so easier to stick to. Good luck with whatever you do but it's not realistic to think you'll lose 8 stone by December so don't set yourself up to fail before you've even started.

Thethuthinang · 02/10/2023 20:20

Noom. But 8 stone will be problematic.

disappearingfish · 02/10/2023 20:20

Don't have a timeline for weight loss. If you don't lose weight "fast enough" it could demotivate you.

Start by making positive changes - food, exercise, water, sleep. And go from there.

Jingleq · 02/10/2023 20:21

Another poster mentioned metformin I actually was prescribed this for help with endemetriosis a few years back and I shed weight scarily but obviously doctor prescribed op

Hagpie · 02/10/2023 20:21

I was a size 18 and currently a size 8 because of my (proportionately) wide hips. It took 2 years. I didn’t put the weight on in 4 months and so I couldn’t take it off in 4 months.

You are just going to swap one set of disordered eating with another kind. Trust me…. at one point I was so skinny it made my feet just look really … long. You could put your hands around my waist. I didn’t have periods for months at a time.

This is what I did after I had my third child:

  1. No exercise or change to my eating for 6 weeks. In that time I actively learned to love my body. I shook my ass in the mirror, said nice things about myself and dressed up to go nowhere. It may take you longer because I am /practiced/ at loving myself.
  2. When you’re feeling like HOT SHIT start a skin care thing or whatever. You’ll do nice stuff for yourself because “damn bitch you’re fine as hell! Drink some water to keep that skin GLOWING” - my actual internal monologue.
  3. When my confidence was at a 10 I started exercising. Muscle is more “expensive” for your body to keep. It literally burns calories for you while you sleep. Allll my girlies should lift but I am told it is particularly good for those with PCOS. I am 9 months pp and my 6 pack is coming back.

DO NOT EAT 1200 CALORIES A DAY. It is not enough to sustain a grown woman it is literally ED advice and without the carbs you will be moody, get headaches and give up. You cannot take out of your body what you do not put in. I have a historical tendency towards not eating so I can’t do this, but work out how many calories you need for your height, weight and activity level and stick with it. It might take 3- 4 weeks as your body takes on water weight because of swelling as your body gets used to your new life. It is a normal and expected reaction and then you will have scale victories.

Non-scale victories are just as important! Is it easier to walk up stairs now? Is sitting down in a chair for long periods comfier? Etc

AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GET RID OF ALL THE SKINNY BITCHES ON YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA. Most of them are on steroids.

Little swaps in what you eat or change one thing a week e.g this week I’ll reduce how much alcohol I’ll consume or this week I will take the stairs instead of the lift.

Good luck OP and anyone reading this I have full faith in you.

I need to lose 8 stone as fast as possible.
due to current circumstances, I need to lose it as quickly as possible.

These are worrying statements and it is irresponsible to engage with your question without a lot more information.

See your doctor in the first instance.
If the instruction to lose weight is from your doctor, then they should also advise a SAFE strategy for you to follow, and closely monitor your progress.
