To ask how I can quickly lose 8 stone?

Weightlosswonders · 02/10/2023 19:27

I need to lose 8 stone as fast as possible.

In an ideal world I would do it more slowly and in the healthiest possible way but due to current circumstances, I need to lose it as quickly as possible.

Im looking into a possible meal replacement diet but that’s looking rather pricey! (Around £12 a day which is too much for one person!)

All suggestions welcome. (my interim target is 4 stone by Christmas) and I’d welcome any advice from anyone who’s down similar.

Thank you to all who have posted.

My current plan is to do intermittent fasting, (I already do 10 hours naturally of en evening/night) so am going to build this up to 16 gradually.

I am also counting every calorie and trying to reduce carbs and sugar, including no carbs in the evening. I used one of the calculators posted where it works out how many calories you need based on your height, weight, what you want to lose etc

It’s suggested 1550 for my age, weight, height and actively level.

If I had to estimate I would guess I would usually have around 2500-4000 calories a day usually, often with sweet treats / cakes so 500 calories could easily be consumed in a few bites with no nutritional value 🙈

Even when I am consuming absolutely loads, my weight remains at 22 stone and never seem to go over this! No idea why I haven’t put any more on - anyone knowledgable explain this?

It’s your set point. It’s the weight your body now wants to be. If you eat more your body will ramp up your metabolism to burn off the excess and if you eat less it will ramp up the hunger signals. Unfortunately, when you have been seriously overweight for a while (I include myself in this category) you can become resistant to the signals that your fat stores are full so you feel a stronger need to eat as your body doesn’t recognise it has sufficient reserves - it’s called Leptin resistance. It takes time to work on resetting that mechanism. Avoiding blood sugar spikes helps as high insulin is part of the problem as does good sleep and some activity.

Best of luck - I think what you are now suggesting sounds more sustainable.

Intermittent fasting?

I have about 2 stone to loose and have lost 6lb in 2 weeks by trying to stick to employ eating between 10 and 6. I just keep myself busy before 10 x

"Even when I am consuming absolutely loads, my weight remains at 22 stone and never seem to go over this! No idea why I haven’t put any more on - anyone knowledgable explain this?"

Whatever your maintenance calories are, you are not eating over that number, on average across a week. It's the only possible explanation.

electriclight · 03/10/2023 21:09

You've got 11 weeks until Christmas.

To lose 4 stone, or 56pounds by then, you'd need to lose over 5 pounds per week.

1lb of fat is a 3500 calorie deficit, so 5lb of fat is a 17,500 calorie deficit.

To lose 5lb of fat per week you have to eat 17,500 fewer calories than you need to maintain your weight. Or 2,500 fewer calories than your maintenance calories every single day. Except your maintenance calories are unlikely to be higher than 2,500 per day. So your goal is not possible.

My late wife lost 10 stone in 18 months. Slimming world. Kept it off too. It was a massive change in our eating habits but making sure all meals were sw kept her at target.

She also increased the exercise she was doing. Running 5 times a week. It really helped her mental health

Good luck with however you chose to lose the weight

Sallyh87 · 04/10/2023 19:19

Good luck @Weightlosswonders. I too am trying to lose a lot of weight, I hate dieting but needs must!

Have you spoken to your gp? You might be eligible for those injections. I don’t know a huge amount about side effects- I believe there can be nausea and that with them, but a few over weight friends went on them with great success. Unfortunately though I believe they are intended for life long use and many have gained weight back on stopping them. Might be a conversation worth having with a doctor though. Agree with exercise and diet, again useful to chat to your gp as you could get a dietician referral to help you ensure you are doing it as healthy as possible.

Most GPs have run out of the injections as a few people who didn’t need them (slim already) were buying them.

A friend of mine has been prescribed Oviva similar to lighter life meal replacements.

No they haven't. Supplies are picking up well. Very few areas actually supply wegovy on the NHS though for weightloss, you generally have to get it privately. Supply issues in both NHS and private have massively eased though.

There's no evidence that supply issues were caused by people taking it who weren't eligible. Supply issues were caused by a huge uptake in demand that couldn't be met by supply temporarily, that has now been sorted and supply is fine.

androidnotapple · 16/10/2023 17:05

Could I just point out that AN NHS GP CANNOT PRESCRIBE THIS DRUG

NICE is very clear that it has to be through a tier 3 weight loss clinic. So access is limited by the waiting lists for these clinics.

TheCatterall · 16/10/2023 17:25

You talk a lot about calories etc @Weightlosswonders but what are you actually doing about moving more. Are you currently very sedate and sat around all
say. Or already at a gym and swimming/walking etc.

it doesn’t matter the calorific intake of others. It’s what your body needs nutrionally.

id start using the paid version (if you have the budget) of myfitness pal and logging and wringing every thing. Look at the balance of carbs etc. the nutriional balance.

another thing is your age. If you are menopausal for instance you may find it harder to shift and need different things from your diet.

Well that’s not what my friend thought or was told. Yes, there’s a huge uptake in demand but she cannot now not get eg Ozempic which was prescribed before. She’s assuming (probably unfairly) that people who don’t need it have either been prescribed it or buy it on the black market therefore meaning what’s available to NHS trusts is reduced or unavailable.

She really does not want to be on the meal replacement plan which is her only option now, she’s been told. And she was doing well on the injections.

See what I wrote to @RowenaEllis. We are in a suburb of SE London. My friend has been trying for the past 3-4 months to get the injections prescribed again to her but every time her GP has told her there’s a supply issue. So she’s now on a meal replacement plan.

Your friend might be annoyed by the supply issues as we all are but there is no evidence at all that it was caused by people taking it who weren't suitable. This is your friend making assumptions.
The supply issues were as I said caused by sky rocketing demand (by eligible people) and insufficient supply for a short period of time.
I also don't see how she can have been on ozempic for weight loss on prescription on the NHS as they have NEVER prescribed ozempic for weight loss.

Supply dropped in May/June and picked up again in September. So yeah.

Hello, massive good luck with your goal. I weighed slightly less then you at my start and managed to lose 6 stone 8.5lbs with slimming world in less then 6 months. I didn’t exercise lots just tried to get in a walk three times a week towards the end of that journey, it really is so different person to person. I’d like to add I still had days off, treats & cheat days on the odd occasion so it’s possible that I could have sped that up even more although sometimes found it helped me kick in to shifting some more. Good luck just remember even a bit is a start! You’ve got this x

I think the OP will likely have cracked it (or not) by now, given that the thread is over a year old 🧟

I wouldn't rush to lose it as quickly as possible, my husband did this when he was younger, gym every day, barely ate anything, caused himself to get asthma that's he stuck with for life.

Rapid weight loss caused asthma? I have never heard of that. Do you know what aspect of the weight loss caused it?

Makingchocolatecake · 16/11/2024 08:57

Doctor said he had stressed his body out so much
