Bloody Tik Tok and DD

11 year old DD wants TIk Tok and has been relentlessly hasstling for it- giving me the whole ‘all my friends have it’ etc. i have said no and been clear about my reasons which include that I don’t think it’s a particularly safe platform, she’s too young etc etc.

She thinks I am being super strict. My compromise was that I would set up an account on my phone that she could use when I was also able to monitor it - was with her when she’s looking at it.

Aibu and very strict? I don’t bloody want her in some Tik Tok rabbit hole at 11 years old in her room on her own- I feel like there’s then no control. She thinks I am being ridiculous!

Am i being ridiculously over strict?

It’s exhausting going over and over it with her on what seems like every other day at the moment

Then don't go over and over it; tell her once and for all it's a no, and if she whines point out that the whining's a sign of immaturity in itself and proves why she's too young for this

If she still whines after that, tell her if she does it once more the phone will be removed for a set period ... and mean it

TikTok is hideous. It is not just about the content. It is about how addictive it is. There is no way on earth I would want a young teen looking at such fast moving addictive images. We have no idea what this will do to their cognitive development.

My 18y daughter got it Just before she turned 17. She loves it and hates it. She said it is extremely addictive and deleted it during her A-levels. There is so much mindless scrolling on it. Her content is largely popstar related but she says it it would be very easy to get sucked down a rabbit hole of more toxic stuff.

I think those of you restricting your younger kids use of it are doing the right thing. I honestly think it can adversely affect both mental health but also concentration, focus and academic progress.

Vivek Ramaswamy, a Republican candidate for President, favors
banning social media for under16s. It’s a great idea, as tweens and younger teens can be groomed or exposed to highly inappropriate material. TikTok has many trans videos with bad vice on what to do and say that can lead to a false diagnosis gender dysphoria.

It's making kids thicker. It shortens their attention spans. Good luck to this generation when they have to sit in a 3 hour English exam. Honestly, it's for morons by morons.

New TikTok 'bone smashing' trend encourages people to hit themselves in the face with hammers to improve their looks.

Bone smashing tutorial' videos have racked up 364 million views on TikTok
But doctors warn against the practice as it could leave you disfigured

The idea behind the so-called 'bone smashing' is that people hit their faces with hammers, bottles, massagers, weights or other blunt objects to break or fracture their bones in the hopes of reshaping their facial structure.
