I spent £50 on a kitchen bin

Have never owned a nice kitchen bin and for the past year at least we’ve had a plastic bag hanging on a kitchen door handle.

The new bin is stainless steel from Homesense has 2 main 20L compartments and a 5L caddy that sits inside one of the 20L compartments. It’s got 2 pedals for each side.

AIBU for spending that much on a bin

If you can afford it, you can spend how ever much you like on whatever you like

CoffeeLover90 · 01/10/2023 18:33

That's the bin I looked at 🤣 but our recycling goes in one bin here, so I didn't really need the extra compartment. I took the cheaper option and bought 2 bins, same style but different colours to separate rubbish and recycling.
YANBU imo, if you can afford it. And it's a nice looking bin.

I feel so old. I used to be fun.

Doublerainbow23 · 01/10/2023 18:34

Yanbu. I don't think £50 is a huge amount for a decent bin. It's something you use everyday and you get what you pay for.

Enjoy your bin 😊

Sacmagique75 · 01/10/2023 18:35

We’ve had a black sack hanging on the door handle for the last ten years instead of a bin. Well done for finally buying one. Send me the link please 😂

IncompleteSenten · 01/10/2023 18:35

No. If you can afford it and it's what you wanted then fair enough.
Mine was about that I think. It's a three in one with a section for rubbish, plastic recycling and paper recycling. Very handy.

OliveHenry · 01/10/2023 18:39

I bought an EKO one a few years ago and I think it cost about £90, which seemed outrageous for a bin, but I was fed up of fighting plastic ones where the lid fell off every time you looked at them.

Coupled with Bacofoil Elastifit bin liners, it's been truly life-changing and I don't regret a penny!

SisterMichaelsHabit · 01/10/2023 18:40

That sounds amazing and let's be fair that's 3 bins in one so you've spent under £20 per bin really!

Comedycook · 01/10/2023 18:40

To be for, bins are way more expensive than you'd think...like ironing boards. Decent ones cost a fortune.

Ginmonkeyagain · 01/10/2023 18:42

A good bin is great. I spent about that on a Brabantia flip top one that is screwed to the inside of the cupboard door. It was well worth it.

catskittens · 01/10/2023 18:43

if you can afford it and your not playing jenga with the household bills then blardy have it and enjoy op

Natalie2821 · 01/10/2023 18:44

I don’t feel so bad now.

We can afford it without getting into debt but my DH was shocked that I wanted to spend that much on a bin, I said it can be an early birthday present for me instead of another unnecessary novelty mug/toiletry set that I’ll never use.

@Natalie2821 can you post the link? I need to get a new one too 🙂

SnapdragonToadflax · 01/10/2023 18:45

Decent bins are weirdly expensive, but so worth it when they just work properly.

If anyone can recommend a 40l single bin that comes in cream or white and doesn't need expensive specific binbags, please share. I have my eye on a £90 Brantabia one but that feels excessive.

stayathomer · 01/10/2023 18:46

I always laugh that we spend money on food bills etc yet the other day I stood staring at a mop for about fifteen minutes that I’d been looking at the last half a year. It was twenty euros and we’ve had the old one for years!!! Yanbu for something that gets used every single day!

Georgeandzippyzoo · 01/10/2023 18:48

I spent a little bit more on a 3 section bin which fits in a cupboard unit. We have a galley kitchen so any free standing bin gets in the way so we would have a carrier bag over a handle. I hated it, and it was impossible once we got a puppy.

I LOVE my bin. Probably best, most practical £60 I've spent and I wish I'd done it yrs ago!

ChannelyourinnerElsa · 01/10/2023 18:48

I said it can be an early birthday present for me

please do not say this. Don’t have a household waste bin for your birthday!! This martyrdom has to fucking stop.

Bookish88 · 01/10/2023 18:50

£50 isn't a lot for a kitchen bin.

Wilma55 · 01/10/2023 18:50

I spent £100 on this double John Lewis bin, very extravagant but the kitchen looks much better!

Definitely not unreasonable. I spent so much on our kitchen bin six years ago that I wouldn't tell dh for six months (bought with my money not shared) . After six months he told me he didn't care how much it cost because it was worth every penny 🙂. And we still love it - it's so well designed that it just makes it easy to use /empty.

Lulubo1 · 01/10/2023 18:56

£50 on a bin is a deal! Don't feel bad. A decent bin isn't cheap. We spent £75 on a bin and it was worth every penny

Alwayswonderedwhy · 01/10/2023 18:57

£50 for a bin isn't expensive so yanbu.

ActDottie · 01/10/2023 18:58

I don’t think £50 is that extortionate and the bin sounds really nice :) I’d probably have bought a similar one if I needed one.

Menora · 01/10/2023 18:59

I keep buying the £14 bin they sell in Tescos but the kids keep putting things in that leaks like milk and then I can never get the smell out!! I would cry if they did that to a £50 bin
