How often do you eat at McDonalds?

Just interested. I think DH visits too often with the kids, he would take them even more if it wasn’t for me asking him not to.

For context he takes them once a fortnight, he would take them once or twice in a week if it wasn’t for me putting my foot down.

It annoys me as I do 90% of the parenting (he works away often) and I feel I can’t give them a lazy tea as they’re already having enough crap.

I know I’ll be criticised for that and not too interested - just wonder what other people do?

I've not been in years with kids once a month they would have another take away once a month, of course you can give your kids a lazy dinner yabu.

Mid 60s and never been in one, let alone had one. Ditto Burger King, KFC and Subway. Never took the dcs either.

Did your DC’s never get invited to a birthday party held at McD’s?

We don’t know anyone that had a party at a fast food restaurant 🤷🏼‍♀️

Gameofphonesx · 02/10/2023 18:28

I used to work at McDonalds and I would have it every working day- and on days off!- for over ten years! I still choose it now if we have to have that kind of meal on a car journey- especially if there isn’t an M&S food outlet at any services. My 3 year old knows what it is but has only had a few when we’ve been unexpectedly out at a meal time. I’ve got huge food issues that I’m trying to work through and giving her junk is a major concern, but obviously the other extreme is not giving her any and then her binging it all when she’s in sole control of her meals. I’m ‘lucky’ that my husband is as tight-fisted as they come so he wouldn’t think to give her a takeaway meal 😂 When I worked there a woman came in dead proud that her 7 MONTH OLD twins were having their ‘first McDonalds’- grotesque on all levels. I think we’re spoilt for choice now, when I was little my parents would have a takeaway once every few months and we’d barely eat out- my daughter eats at a cafe or restaurant at least three times a week!

ginandtonicwithlimes · 02/10/2023 18:32

Waiting for all the teenagers who weren't allowed a McDonald's as children to go for them now....

I wouldn't be too strict about it!

Pascha · 02/10/2023 18:33

Maybe once every couple of months? We don't live near one so generally only if we are on the way somewhere, occasionally a special trip in the holidays.

bellac11 · 02/10/2023 18:38

What a question to ask on here. Its like asking if you give your children arsenic according to most posters on this site!!!!

It doesnt remove any of your options OP, do a lazy tea of fish fingers, wedges with beans or peas and sweetcorn, nothing wrong with that, quick, cheap and easy. Its not poison to serve up pizza and salad or a ready made lasagne now and then

Kwasi · 02/10/2023 18:41

We probably go once a fortnight and in school hols. It means that as a family of 3, we can have lunch for a tenner. Everywhere else near me would cost much more than that.

Scottsy200 · 02/10/2023 18:53

Mumsnet did not disappoint with this thread the judgement is palpable, “ooh only if you have a salad” who the F is eating salads at McD’s.
“last time i went was 1988” - Whoopi de soo do you want a medal

”oh we never have McDonald’s” oh bore off you total fun sponges, it’s an f’ing burger not a neurotoxin 🙄

Tangled123 · 02/10/2023 18:54

I used to go once a week when I worked close to one. I still live close to the same one, but McDonald’s just isn’t appealing to me at the moment. Have only been once in the last few months.

I would have thought no-one - with the amount of calories in them you might as well have the burger.

Those who say "never", would you be okay with your kid having a McDonald's whilst at a birthday outing or round a friend's house?

No, I'd just have chips. I saw a programme about the processed meat industry about 35 years ago and I have avoided fast food ever since.

According to Rimmer from ‘Red Dwarf’, the best cure for a hangover is a fried egg and chilli chutney sandwich, on white bread.

I think you mean Lister. Rimmer was a hologram.

I actually loved a Maccies when I was obsessively calorie counting. I'd have one of their grilled wraps with a pineapple stick instead of fries and a diet Coke. It was pretty much the only fast food I could fit into my overly restrictive diet.

Yes sorry, I meant Lister - it was a conversation between Lister and Rimmer . Rimmer tried it and said he felt like he was having a baby and described the sandwich as a cross between food and bowel surgery !!

WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps · 02/10/2023 19:53

Not for years. Our idea of fast food is the delightful little brasserie round the corner where we have sandwich au bifteck avec frites. It does taste a bit like a Maccies - though not as nice - and I do wonder about the hygiene in the kitchen (the Grillardin has a habit of wiping his nose on his apron).

But since it’s not Maccies it must be wholesome and not the poisonous, life-limiting stuff that’s built an empire of fans. And it’s French so must be better than anything American. At least that’s what I understand from MN.

@ChocolateCinderToffee but I wasn't asking whether you would have one, I was asking if you would be okay with your child having one. Or would you stipulate NO MCDONALDs to any parent taking your child out or inviting them to a bday party.

Thementalloadisreal · 02/10/2023 20:42

McDonalds bday parties in the early 90s were the absolute bollocks. Some even had soft play!

PureAmazonian · 02/10/2023 20:46

Last time I went was when I was pregnant. That was 18 months ago. Before that was probably 7 years ago.
I plan on never taking DD, so yes I agree once a fortnight is far too much.

Frequency · 02/10/2023 20:49

What exactly do people think is in McDonald's? As I said I'm not a massive fan, I think the portions are a bit lacking and you're always left hungry but it is just a burger and fries. It's not laced with arsenic or anything.

Craycraycatbaby · 02/10/2023 20:50

Once a year maybe. It's not overly wise to put that shit in your body too often.

ActDottie · 02/10/2023 20:51

Never

Frequency · 02/10/2023 21:00

I actually really fancy a Big Mac now. I'm debating whether to order one but I've already eaten dinner. It feels a bit greedy.
