she doesn't half seem to be good at getting jobs
unless the buttons and mark warner jobs were 2 out of many she applied for

yes but this is programme is called whistleblowers
the woman at ofsted said "some nurseries are terrible, look at these two and look at mark warner and the procedure for registering childminders is crap"

I'm sure if she had applied to any others pointed out by the whistleblower and they proved to be fine, they would say so. I have no doubt about that personally

minouminou · 05/03/2008 21:45

PPH makes sense there, actually, cos they'd've wanted to get the doc made as quickly as possible, so probably would have followed the ofsted leads
however, this still doesn't give a fair picture

Yikes, after saying that her facebook profile is full of pictures of the kids in her care from her Mark Warner days

spicemonster · 05/03/2008 21:46

pph I doubt that very much. They're hardly going to have a big bit of the programme extolling the virtues of 20 marvellous nurseries are they? Would be considered advertising - and that's not allowed on the BBC

Chequers, it's not really about trust, PPH is speaking from knowledge of BBC procedure, and so am I.

PrincessPeaHead · 05/03/2008 21:47

rubbish spicemonster
sorry, but that is rubbish

pmsl

gosh, it still inspire such loyalty, hey? despite MT bloody awfulness...

spicemonster · 05/03/2008 21:51

Why is that rubbish? Have you ever seen an expose where they showed a load of plumbers that did the job really well and charged fairly? Or a load of mechanics? No. Programmes like this aren't about giving a balanced POV, they're to shock you.

PrincessPeaHead · 05/03/2008 21:52

What a tragedy. Hey ho, I'll survive I expect....

wannaBe · 05/03/2008 21:53

of course they have to be honest about what she did/didn't apply for. because if she applied to 30 other nurseries and was rejected, there will be an artacle in some paper by Friday from all the nurseries who would just like to defend their position by saying that they turned down this woman's application on the basis of her lack of qualifications/dodgy cv etc.

PrincessPeaHead · 05/03/2008 21:53

well you know dinny
having drafted a number of charters and agreements for the old lady I feel sort of PERSONALLY responsible for her behaviour in a way

he he he he he he

wannaBe · 05/03/2008 21:55

and sadly I don't think mark warner will go down. because mark warner holidays are for those types of people that have to take their kids on holiday but don't actually want to spend time with them. so the 9-5 kids clubs with them in bed by 7 is just perfect

scottishmummy · 05/03/2008 22:01

eh and you would know, shocking snobby generalisations.i suppose butlins/centre parcs offering childcare are tickety-boo, or are they

ALMummy · 05/03/2008 22:01

Kids shoved into Holiday Clubs while their parents swan off for some me time disgusts me after watching that programme and I couldnt care less if I get flamed for that. Tiny kids being taken on speed boats - experiences they should be having with their parents - without even the relevant safety precautions being taken is outrageous. Taking your children on holiday and then shoving them into exactly the same situation they are in at home with complete strangers while you soak up some rays or have a leisurely lunch? How can you justify that?

I dont much care about balanced POV with regards to this subject to be honest. The fact that these situations exist at all have to be addressed, whether the programme was sensationalised or not.

wannaBe · 05/03/2008 22:05

there is a vast difference between p utting one's child into a childcare situation for a couple of hours when on holiday, and putting them in childcare for the duration of one's holiday.

The words "mark warner" and "family friendly" should not be used in the same sentence IMO.

anywhere that bans children after 7 pm and runs kids clubs all day every day is disgraceful.

if that makes me a snob then so be it, although actually I think that the majority of people that go on mw holidays earn a damn sight more than i do.

scottishmummy · 05/03/2008 22:10

funny enough i don't care /judge/fret about what other parents chose to do on holiday with their own children.don't get why MW is synonymous with child eating covenso not yer cup of tea - well dont feckin go then

blueshoes · 05/03/2008 22:15

PPH: "obviously though in this case she was pointed to bad nurseries by the ofsted whistleblower, which are the ones she applied to. she wouldn't have needed to apply to 300 to find the bad ones, she was led to them"

I don't see what the problem is. The nurseries were Known to be Bad. They were shown in the programme to be Bad. That does not say anything about the other 1,000s of nurseries out there that (surprise) could actually be Good.

It would be a revelation if somehow we all believed that ALL nurseries are unequivocally good. I have yet to hear anyone make that statement. In fact, I will be the first to admit that there are bad nurseries - not from personal experience, but anecdotal on mn and certainly logically as well.

Let's make another programme about naughty nannies, shall we?

scottishmummy · 05/03/2008 22:19

awww then all the precious-moments mamas would be claiming misrepresentation, salacious editing etc.hey guess what ladies - don't believe everything you see on tv it is not real

Whooosh · 05/03/2008 22:23

ALMummy-now is that green eyed monster, perfect mother or just a holier than thou attitude?

Don't get me wrong-I haven't chosen full tiem childcare on holiday or indeed a nursery environment but there are people who need/deserve/can afford or just plain want a couple of hours off on holiday.....is that so wrong if they have had assurances about the level of childcare froma well-respected company

NiceTry · 05/03/2008 22:27

Lol, I'll join the 'precious-moments mamas' anyday. All you 'ship 'em out mamas' have got to be suspicious about this whistleblower because otherwise you have to question your decisions to use day nurseries. How can you be so sure about childcare in nurseries when you are not there. Many of you admit to feeling guilty for using sulltime daycare, many of you claim not to be (I think this is unnatural). However, I have never heard of a woman feeling guilty for caring for her own kids however skint she is!
