Tele - AIBU?

This spelling of 'telly' gives me the rage.

AIBU?

YABU. ‘Tele’ looks ridiculous.

I think it makes more sense linguistically than telly.

I'm going to say YABU, but only because I don't like the word telly (or tele!). It's TV for me.

You must live a charmed life if that's all you've got to worry about.

If you meant it lightheartedly then you should have said so.

You are so right OP. Tele is a suffix. It doesn't work on its own: it needs something afterwards.

Telly makes clear that this is the end of the word.

Is not considered lighthearted any more?

"Tele" gives me the rage. My mum used to spell it like this, with the logic that that's how the letters appear in "television".
By the same 'logic' she spelt the diminiative of my DD's name "Ale" instead of Ali, as it was short for Alexandra.

You're not being at all unreaaonable.

"Tele" is a prefix which means far away. "I was watching the far away" makes no sense whatsoever.

"Telly" is an abbreviation of "Television". "I was watching the television" makes perfect sense.

‘Telleh’ is how I pronounce that.

I think people who spell it tele are also the same people who insist using an apostrophe before phone - ‘phone. I do love a bit of SPAG but tele and ‘phone are just sooooooo pedantic and holier than thou 😄

Those same people also say "fora" instead of "forums"

But Tele?? An absolute dealbreaker !

This all started 'cos me mum said 'stadia' for stadium - then I accused my Dad on holiday of 'shunning aquaria' - visiting another aquarium not highbrow enough for him!!
