Tele - AIBU?

This spelling of 'telly' gives me the rage.

AIBU?

Sorry just to say - both my parents learned Latin and are 'old school'

And context is my Dad thought a visit to an aquarium was beneath him!

There was comment when it was invented that the word was 1/2 latin - vision and half greek - tele.

So it sort of means literally watching over a distance, at the same time as being complete nonsense.

Don't forget "phenomena"!

Tele makes me think of telehandler, so I would be very confused as to why you would be watching a forklift in your house 😂

My pet hate is people who talk about a bacteria or a phenomena or a criteria. They are plurals. The singulars are bacterium, phenomenon and criterion.

I think there's a difference.

"gaol" is a seriously old-fashioned spelling, but still one of the correct ones.

"tele" is just plain wrong.

I bet you it's the same oddballs defiantly using both.

I think that poster was maybe annoyed by people using 'phenomena' as if it were singular?
