To not get chicken thighs?

LemonQuiche · 25/09/2023 22:55

I’m an unfussy eater, like pretty much everything but I just don’t get why so many chefs recommend using chicken thighs.

I get that breasts can dry out easily but thighs have an odd texture that doesn’t sit well with me. Surely breast is best, to borrow a phrase?

Maybe it’s a personal preference but does anyone agree?

If dishes go right with thigh, they are really tasty. If they don't go quite right, they're vile.

Breast is safer.

MasterBeth · 25/09/2023 22:57

No, thighs have much more flavour. Chicken breasts are like Mother's Pride. Chicken thighs are like homemade wholemeal.

Hummingbird89 · 25/09/2023 22:57

It’s personal preference I suppose. To me, breast is dry and tasteless. Boneless thighs are juicy and flavoursome. Depends how they’re cooked also! On skewers in the oven/air fryer then added to a curry they’re gorgeous. Lovely in the slow cooker too, just call to bits.

RunningOnHope · 25/09/2023 22:58

I find using a meat thermometer helps me to truly believe they are cooked through, then psychologically the texture is much nicer and I enjoy all the extra flavour. If I'm in any doubt that they're cooked through, the texture feels off.

minipie · 25/09/2023 22:58

Thigh is far tastier, as well as not drying out.

Grumpyold · 25/09/2023 22:59

I think thighs need long slow cooking, then they're delicious.

Precipice · 25/09/2023 23:00

Depends what you're cooking. Sometimes chicken breast is nice, sometimes it's dry and not nice compared to the chicken thigh cooked in the same way.

I agree with this, totally depends on the dish! I enjoy both. I think there is a bit of snobbery around chicken breasts being seen as unadventurous and safe, which I think is bollocks personally.

AlltheFs · 25/09/2023 23:04

I like both but thighs have the edge for me, I like the texture better and flavour. But depends on the dish.

SisterAgatha · 25/09/2023 23:06

Dark meat all the way

pizzaHeart · 25/09/2023 23:07

I don’t cook thighs usually as DH is complaining that they are too fatty, I cook drumsticks - they are my favourites.

DonnaBanana · 25/09/2023 23:08

Slimy and sinewy. No thanks.

merrymelodies · 25/09/2023 23:08

Thighs are gross. They have veins and slithery stuff in them.

MartyFunkhouser · 25/09/2023 23:10

To my foodie husband’s chagrin, I hate chicken thighs. I find them slimy and revolting.

TheMurderousGoose · 25/09/2023 23:11

I love all the brown meat.

Breasts can be nice if sufficiently juicy but so many people dry them out.

Not good quality butchers own, skinless and boneless.

for decades chicken breasts were the dominant chicken cut. it's time for thighs to have their moment in the sun.

but the skin is delicious and the bone gives extra flavour.

SheisMammyof2 · 25/09/2023 23:14

No I can't stomach the taste of them.

M103 · 25/09/2023 23:15

Thighs all the way for everyone in our family. I do eat breast as well though. Just definitely prefer thighs. Most people I know prefer thighs .

Crucible · 25/09/2023 23:15

Don't cook chicken in the sun. Oven is best.

Starseeking · 25/09/2023 23:16

I really hate chicken thighs, I find them quite slimy. I much prefer the firmer meat of chicken breast.

Blinky21 · 25/09/2023 23:17

Scraggy things, I hate them

PenisButterOnMyCuttedUpPear · 25/09/2023 23:28

I'm with @SisterAgatha and @MasterBeth all the way on this one. Thighs are where's it at.

Legomania · 25/09/2023 23:32

I've tried various dishes using them but the texture puts me right off
