What's wrong with that? It's an online chat

cassiatwenty · 25/09/2023 16:12

It's cute.

Createausername1970 · 25/09/2023 16:12

Probably wasn't even a real person.😱

Whataretheodds · 25/09/2023 16:13

It annoys me too.

LubaLuca · 25/09/2023 16:14

It's normal for online chat, it's causal correspondence. It's hard to build rapport with clients in that scenario, so agents will try to present as a human/relatable/approachable in any way they can.

It was.

I started off talking to a robot but got put through to a real person.

I wouldn't mind if it was ikea or something but the Bank?

I must just be entering my grumpy old lady era!

I think I've always been in mine.
I completely agree with you.

Frabbits · 25/09/2023 16:16

Really, does it matter? Online chats are quite an informal method of communication.

Hankunamatata · 25/09/2023 16:17

Nope love an emoji🤩

BarrelOfOtters · 25/09/2023 16:17

I agree. I grit my teeth at younger people at work using them in emails....

AgnesX · 25/09/2023 16:19

Seems that with online chat anything goes.... just don't do it to your CEO 😄

How old is too old to use emojis in work emails?

Prancingponytail · 25/09/2023 16:23

It matters if you don’t know what the emojis mean (and my emoji vocab runs to about 3 emojis).

AutumnDay90 · 25/09/2023 16:23

Our company has recently introduced WhatsApp and online chat. We've always had a tone of voice which was "as if you are talking to an acquaintance formal but not too formal"

I don't work in customer services but the head of dept did a presentation to my area about this launch and said the steer is informal and there are pre-approved emoji that can be used so its definitely happening, we're a financial services insurance firm

Also when we get "pre approved social media messages" that we can post socially about updates on linked in or insta/Facebook about our products and services they always include an emoji these days! Must be the change in demographic!

youcandanceifyouwanna · 25/09/2023 16:28

It is really disrespectful, and implies they don't value you enough to construct a sentence. I bet Coutts don't emoji their clients.

Harrysarseinthedogbowl · 25/09/2023 16:46

cassiatwenty · 25/09/2023 16:12

It's cute.

It's not and anyway, who wants their bank to be cute?

Sparklesocks · 25/09/2023 16:49

I think it depends on context.

I wouldn’t mind ‘glad I could help 😊’

But i guess I wouldn’t like ‘sorry you’re overdrawn 🥺’ or ‘due to falling behind on your mortgage payments we’ll be repossessing the property 😩😓🥴’

Anewest · 25/09/2023 16:53

But i guess I wouldn’t like ‘sorry you’re overdrawn 🥺’ or ‘due to falling behind on your mortgage payments we’ll be repossessing the property 😩😓🥴’

That did make me laugh. 😂 I like emojis though, takes the stiff formality away and makes them more relatable, I think.
Always good to get one in an email too, some work emails I have seem awfully stern otherwise, even though they aren't intended in that way (as far as I can tell).

tealgate · 25/09/2023 16:57

I like the fact they are praying they've answered your query 😀

Banks are increasingly presenting themselves as informal fun organisations. Presumably that suits them better than stuffy old banks that fucked the economy a mere 15 years ago.

Challenger banks are naturally pushing this. My sister applied for a job at Monzo and they sent her a rejection email to say they wouldn’t be progressing her monzonaut journey 🚀

Shock
cannaecookrisotto · 25/09/2023 17:46

As long as he solved my query I couldn't give a shit.
