Cryptic pregnancy, positive test at 5 months

Im sure I’m being silly but I’m terrified, shaking and crying and need some reassurance. I last had sex 5 months ago, I’ve had periods ever since albeit a little later than usual but still every month.
this month I’m 10 days late so brought a PG test on a whim and this came up immediately although as it’s so faint I’m thinking it can’t be a positive as surely if I was five months it would be darker?

Thanks everyone. The first test was definitely positive and came up straight away so it’s quite confusing but I’ll leave it a few more days and if still no period I’ll call back for a GP appt

If you are really concerned I wouldn't be leaving it a few days

uncomfortablydumb53 · 25/09/2023 13:25

Definitely see your GP for a blood test
so you know for certain
My neighbour found out at 29 weeks
She had no symptoms and had periods throughout

BrawnWild · 25/09/2023 13:28

Why are you waiting? Phone your GP back again, explain you have had a positive test and are concerned that you are potentially 5 months pregnant based on when you last has sex and have had no antenatal care.

If you are pregnant then it's not just care for you, its care for your baby. It is urgent.

A friend of mine recently found out she was pregnant at 5.5 months gone. She is very slim and not showing at all.

Bobbotgegrinch · 25/09/2023 13:33

I'd get a blood test done at the docs

DP had a cryptic pregnancy. She had an inkling at 6 months so did a couple of at home tests, they both came up negative. We didn't realise that they weren't likely to be accurate that far along.

Looking back, we should have gone to the doctor's for a blood test, 3 months warning would have been bliss compared to finding out when she went into labour!

Curiosity101 · 25/09/2023 13:35

Personally I'd be buying a range of different pregnancy tests to try with normal and diluted urine. I wouldn't be using a digital. See if you get lines on a number of them. If you didn't get lines on any more (only the first one earlier today) then I can understand waiting to see what happens.

But if funds permit then you could get a private ultrasound. You'd be able to get a definitive answer same day for £55 if you call your local ultrasound direct (or similar) clinic

Banrion · 25/09/2023 13:37

It doesn't look like a positive to me. Just the trace of a line that you can sometimes see.

Come back and update us either way please! 🙏

Let us know how you get on! Crossing my fingers you get the news you want!

Daniki · 25/09/2023 13:40

I can imagine the shock you got! And the not knowing. I'd get a few different brands of tests and check.
There was a lady from my village who went into hospital with severe stomach pains one night to find out she was in labour she was 6 months pregnant, and always thought she couldn't have children ( so she was told!) she had a bit of "period" as such throughout so understandably got a massive shock! Baby was born and was completely fine and healthy!

Sunshinenrain · 25/09/2023 13:55

They’re not positive tests but if you think you could be pregnant and your HCG levels decrease then it’s worth putting your mind at rest.

You’d be 20 weeks pregnant and would easily see it on a scan and so I wonder if it’s worth phoning the maternity hospital directly and seeing if you can get a scan booked in.

I do not think you are pregnant but I think it’s in your head and you will worrying for the next 4 months if you are or not, so it’s best to get it confirmed.

Oysterbabe · 25/09/2023 13:59

Looks like a negative test. Maybe you're seeing an indent line.

Highfivemum · 25/09/2023 14:08

Get to see a Doctor. I didn’t find out till I was 18 weeks with my baby I am carrying at the moment. Went to the doctor as thought I was menopausal ( older than you ) I hade regular periods for the first four months.

Daffodil18 · 25/09/2023 14:09

At 5/6 months you wouldn’t need a blood test. The doctor will be able to feel your abdomen and tell you for certain if you are pregnant or not.

MsFrog · 25/09/2023 14:26

Wow, OP, what a huge shock. I agree with other posters, you should contact the GP as a matter of urgency and make a appointment for tomorrow. They'd be able to give you a clear answer by feeling, surely, at this point.

Really hope it turns out ok for you x

ttcat37 · 25/09/2023 14:31

The ‘hook effect’ is when the levels of HCG in urine are strong and the lines actually get lighter. I thought it was nonsense but when I feel pregnant I actually tested the theory. I continued testing on cheapo strips until about 6 weeks and the line started becoming lighter. I did 2 tests using 2 samples of the same urine- 1st one neat urine and 2nd one with diluted urine- about half and half. The diluted urine had the stronger line.
I’m 5 months pregnant now but don’t think I’ve got any tests left to do one for you to compare with OP.

Mrsttcno1 · 25/09/2023 14:31

At 5 months you should have a more obvious line than that. At that stage of pregnancy your hcg would be around 1400-53000 per ml/u, for reference, the clear blue test sensitivity is around 10 ml/u. I would also say the test you have uploaded a photo of doesn’t look to be a genuine positive, it looks more like an indent line as no obvious colour? Having been ttc and currently pregnant, I know all about line eyes and I wouldn’t have classed that as a positive test without having at least 1 other to back it up x

Veryxonfused · 25/09/2023 14:52

Regular periods, very faint line and negative on CB
It’s quite clearly a dodgy test. Where is it from? Look at the reviews for the test. Certain tesco ones for example are known for it

satellitesunshine · 25/09/2023 15:00

have you taken anymore dye tests instead of the digi?

SafferUpNorth · 25/09/2023 15:20

Eh? I can't see a line on that pic? Looks negative to me.

Starbeeees · 25/09/2023 15:23

I clearly see the line without enlarging the photo, but those tests are notorious

You have not posted a photo of a positive test.

If it was then all of the other tests would be positive too.
