DS (4) was fine all day yesterday. We went out for dinner last night and he ate all of his (including beans which may be relevant). We then had our weekly family movie night, DS had some squash and a tiny bit of chocolate whilst watching the movie. Normally on movie night we let the DC stay up later than normal so they usually sleep in aswell.

He's now woken up at 4 this morning crying saying his stomach hurts. I instantly thought its because he ate so much last night so encouraged him to go to the toilet which he did. He did a poop but said his stomach was still hurting.

He's now white as a ghost, feels really cold and clammy to the touch and is saying his tummy hurts so much he can't stand up. I've got him to walk a little bit which he has but he's bent over whilst doing it bless him.

I don't want to take him anywhere yet incase it is just wind from the beans Blush but I would have thought going to the toilet would have helped ease that a bit which it hasn't. Anyone had this with their little ones?

I remember getting great help on here from another sufferer from being put on a different HRT tablet that made me suicidal and so bad tempered I had a big row with my boss the other lady had same and realised it was the new tablet it resolved my problems which were started by the doctor who wanted to wean me off it I am now back on the proper stuff....so for me it was a lifesaver 👍👍

Make sure they check for infection in case his appendix has ruptured. That often reduces pain for a time but obviously needs immediate treatment.

Peachee · 24/09/2023 07:32

I’ve been following your thread and I’m so so glad that your son has perked up. How scary for you!

HazelBite · 24/09/2023 07:36

I don't know if you have considered an allergic/intolerant reaction to something. DS 1 used to go into a state of collapse, writhing around in pain etc on a regular basis, it was always put down to being a stomach bug etc. It was only discovered that he reacted to Aspartame when he collapsed in a pub after drinking Red Bull and was taken to hospital, they realised he wasn't drunk after he woke up early the next morning full of the joys!
Has he ingested something in the last 24hours that he wouldn't normally have?

Fiddlesticks25 · 24/09/2023 08:03

Really pleased to hear that he's perked up a bit! Hope you get answers very soon and he makes a full recovery quickly x

Twinsandsome · 24/09/2023 08:14

lay him flat see if he can lift his legs. I would be getting him checked for appendix a lot of kids and adults start with the pain in the centre/belly button area before the pain moves to right side.

daydreaming3 · 24/09/2023 08:18

@Twinsandsome he can lift his legs but it does hurt him. He's gone a little off again this morning but the drs will be coming round to review him soon. He's still much better than he was yesterday but has just had to have a bit more pain relief and has gone a bit quiet again

Can you ask them to do bloods/scan again since him feeling much brighter as that can be a sign of burst appendix. The vomiting bile, pain standing up, weeing without uti (often appendix can irritate bladder) would make me concerned that it is appendix but I know your in a hospital so they will get to the bottom of it x

Ejismyf · 24/09/2023 08:25

My sister use to get like this when little, hospital stays that resulted in lumbar punctures and all sorts of tests. Nothing could be found and it was all put down to stomach migraines. Hope he continues to improve and you get home today.

DollyBantry · 24/09/2023 08:37

My DS scared the heck out of us when he was about 3 with sudden screaming stomach pain. After a mad dash to A&E he equally suddenly perked up and we later discovered he’d had mesenteric adenitis. Scary but common.

I hope he continues to improve and you get some answers very soon.

Bubblemoons · 24/09/2023 08:42

My ds had something similar where he would wake up screaming in agony in the night, I remember having to hold him as he was thrashing about so much in pain, he’d nearly throw himself off the bed. We had a couple of A&E visits. and scans eventually, and in the end they decided it was swollen glands in his stomach. We couldn’t believe that could cause so much pain, but it did eventually go away.
The constant weeing in your son does sound different though. I hope you have some answers soon.

Covidwoes · 24/09/2023 08:43

Glad he's improving OP. I'm not a doctor, but thinking about it, it sounds very similar to my friend's little girl who was diagnosed with intussusception. Her first symptom was throwing up bile. It took ages for it to be found, as tests kept coming back normal. It can correct itself, which ends up relieving symptoms. Maybe worth a mention to the doctor?

GoodOnPaper · 24/09/2023 08:43

Really glad he’s brightened up.

Hope you can get to the bottom
if it soon.

PortalooSunset · 24/09/2023 08:53

@daydreaming3 urine dip tests are notoriously unreliable so could still be a UTI. Is he able to tolerate plenty of fluids?

Ivebeentogeorgia · 24/09/2023 09:24

I’m glad he’s feeling better but definitely push for more tests to try and get to the bottom of it. I would also be worried about uti or ruptured appendix. Somethings still not right for him to be having the weeing issue

Riverlee · 24/09/2023 09:30

Wishing your boy a speedy recovery.

Very much this - I wouldn’t leave until certain he is better and not just looking better before a potential crash

RogersOrganismicProcess · 24/09/2023 09:39

Hope he gets better soon op. The support on this thread has been wondeful. Mumsnet at its best.

PoliticallyIncorrectHitchling · 24/09/2023 09:40

Hope he feels better soon OP.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 24/09/2023 10:02

I’ve had mesenteric Adenitis in the past with very similar symptoms to your son but also had a raging temperature and was in hospital for a week as they tried to get to the bottom of things.

Sunshinenrain · 24/09/2023 10:09

Sorry not read everyone else’s replies but I just wanted to say that a few years ago I pulled a muscle (not in my stomach) and it was one of the worst pains I’ve ever felt.

I don’t remember the actual cause of it but i just woke up in absolute agony and I remember posting on here and others had had the same thing and also said how painful it was.
I think it was called something else but it’s basically a pulled muscle.

It got better after a few days of rest and regular pain killers.
I was a bit embarrassed to say that I had ‘just’ pulled a muscle but it can be quite severe.

Sorry I cant be more help. If all of the tests come back clear and the doctors still think it’s this then it very possibly could be.

Listen to the advice of the PPs like checking for appendix ruptures but once they discharge him just keep giving him pain relief and checking his temperature. Any worries just take him straight back in.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 24/09/2023 10:14

I have been following this with unease and am glad you are advocating for him and he seems better. But please read the articles about Martha’s Law - a child who had a bicycle injury and died because the hospital failed to realise she had sepsis resulting. Am not suggesting your DS has this, but just want you to be informed in case it’s relevant. Good luck xx

DrRuthGalloway · 24/09/2023 10:18

Ask them about intussuseption. It's where a section of bowel telescopes in on itself.
My DD had this aged 6. It's rare in children older than babies, so they don't always look for it.

Her symptoms were - sudden onset severe tummy pain, just below belly button
Unable to poo after an initial clear out, and stopped passing wind
Vomiting everything including liquids, pretty much undigested, that then turned into green then brown vomit (feacal vomiting)
Pain initially very severe, couldn't stand up straight. It eased off as the oxygen supply to her intestine died, about 36 hours in, but she was obviously still really ill - just lying there asleep most of the time.
Never had a fever.

Hers was seen on ultrasound - has he had one?

Anniecott · 24/09/2023 10:20

I've not read the whole thread so please forgive me if this has been suggested, but my son was slightly younger than yours when he first presented with a strangulated hernia, I have never heard screams like it, by the time we got him to a&e he had stopped, they couldn't find anything. This happened a few times and because basically the strangulation had stopped by the time we got to hospital the hernia was hard to diagnose, but it was just the way you said he suddenly stopped and sat up as normal, rang a bell with me. It could be worth mentioning.
Hope he gets better soon. X

Floralnomad · 24/09/2023 10:25

Glad to hear he has improved but don’t let them send him home if he’s not better and peeing all the time is not normal .
