Anyone up who knows what this could be? DS in pain.

DS (4) was fine all day yesterday. We went out for dinner last night and he ate all of his (including beans which may be relevant). We then had our weekly family movie night, DS had some squash and a tiny bit of chocolate whilst watching the movie. Normally on movie night we let the DC stay up later than normal so they usually sleep in aswell.

He's now woken up at 4 this morning crying saying his stomach hurts. I instantly thought its because he ate so much last night so encouraged him to go to the toilet which he did. He did a poop but said his stomach was still hurting.

He's now white as a ghost, feels really cold and clammy to the touch and is saying his tummy hurts so much he can't stand up. I've got him to walk a little bit which he has but he's bent over whilst doing it bless him.

I don't want to take him anywhere yet incase it is just wind from the beans Blush but I would have thought going to the toilet would have helped ease that a bit which it hasn't. Anyone had this with their little ones?

Omg hope your son is ok!

Norwegiancopice · 23/09/2023 23:54

Have they checked for appendicitis? I had mine out at 5, my niece at 3, so not too young.

@daydreaming3 with those symptoms, I would ask about malrotation and volvulus. It can occur when the gut twists and causes a blockage. Sometimes it is found at birth, I am aware of it as late as in 5 year olds. My DS had it at 5 weeks. Is he vomiting more green bile, that smells like excrement?

I'm so sorry if this is more worrying than helpful, but it's not a well known diagnosis and needs to be explored promptly. My DS is fine now, almost 21 with a cast-irom digestive system.

Sending all good wishes to you and your DS - you are advocating brilliantly for him.

That's what I was thinking. Intestinal twist or perhaps even a hernia where the intestine is twisted. The pain he is in is not normal, so they need to keep him there until they figure it out.

Batalax · 23/09/2023 23:59

I hope he’s feeling better now, op.

@daydreaming3
Op I had the exact same symptoms, when I was 10. It ended up being appendicitis, but the doctors didn't believe it was due to the pain being on the wrong side. My mum wouldn't accept it, and refuse to leave the hospital. They ended up taking me into surgery as explorative surgery and found my appendix severely infected and said if I had gone another 12 hours it would've ruptured.

Stay strong and advocate for that little baby! I hope you get to the bottom of it!! ❤️

I had exactly the same except mine did rupture.
Pain on the wrong side / in the middle. Thing is though the white blood cell count would probably be higher in the OP’s sons blood.
Appendicitis is so hard to diagnose- they told me the only way to confirm was to open me up and look. And yes it was burst.

DragonFly98 · 24/09/2023 00:57

noro is agonising when I had it I have never felt pain like it far worse than childbirth so I wouldn't rule that out. Hope he is ok.

CarrotsAndCheese · 24/09/2023 01:03

Sending you hugs, OP. You're doing the right thing taking him to hospital. I'm sorry you're in this situation. That 2nd doctor sounds awful. I hope the medics listen to you, and find out soon what's causing your poor son to be in so much pain. Poor fella. Get well soon for him and hugs for you x

Alloveragain3 · 24/09/2023 01:11

Thinking of you OP. It is the worst thing in the world when our children are unwell and in pain.
It's great he's had several tests already and I hope you get some clean answers soon and he bounces back, bless him.

Pablosdog · 24/09/2023 01:18

Hope your ds is alright op

coxesorangepippin · 24/09/2023 01:31

Hope you're getting somewhere op, you and your son have really been through it

lucylulululu · 24/09/2023 02:39

Hi op I hope things are alright and that your boy is ok or at least a little better x

daydreaming3 · 24/09/2023 03:11

Sorry for the late update, we both fell asleep at about 8pm after all the stress! I honestly feel like Ive imagined the last 24 hours now!

The last thing to happen was the second dr coming around again and he said that they could see he was not right as he couldn't wake up so they would get the surgical team to come see him in the morning and would observe him all night.

Then about an hour later... he just sat up in bed, asked for a biscuit and a drink and started playing with his toys. I honestly couldn't believe the drastic change. They've still been observing him constantly through the night and he still says his tummy is sore but he's now fully able to stay awake and can stand up without too much discomfort. The only thing still a bit worrying is he's needing a wee every two seconds and not much is coming out.

I was sooo worried yesterday, I genuinely felt that there was something seriously wrong with him and just wanted him to wake up and now I'm obviously thrilled that he's much better but scratching my head as to what happened! Hoping the drs will have some answers when they do their rounds in the morning.

Thank you so much for all the kind words and support. I will update again when we've seen the drs again

That is brilliant news, OP! I was so hoping you’d both been sleeping. I also hope you’ll get some explanation as to what happened. A couple of recent suggestions on here look possible.

Goodfood1 · 24/09/2023 03:16

Thank goodness for that update. I woke up and came to check.

So relieved for you and really hope they have some answers.

Onceacheetah · 24/09/2023 03:27

I assume they've checked for a kidney infection?

acupofteamakeseverythingbetter · 24/09/2023 03:29

I also woke to check and I've been thinking of you both. Glad to hear DS is feeling better big I hope you can get some answers

daydreaming3 · 24/09/2023 03:32

@Onceacheetah they did a urine dip yesterday and it was clear but I've just been to speak to the nurse and they want another sample just incase. I'm hoping if he stays like this we will be discharged later

Nottogetapenny · 24/09/2023 03:49

So pleased your DS is feeling a lot better! What a relief for you, it’s so awful when our DC are ill especially when you don’t know what it is!
Hope he continues to stay well and take care. 🌸

Backtoblack1 · 24/09/2023 04:13

Hope your little boy continues to get better x

Wishiwasatailor · 24/09/2023 04:39

Glad to hear he is feeling better! Has he been unwell recently? It’s not a bad case of mesenteric adenitis is it?

Notanotherone5 · 24/09/2023 04:45

Hi. Have they also sent a sample to the lab? Dip tests often aren’t very accurate

when my daughter had a bad urine infection the dip
test came back clear but the doctor phoned a couple of days later to say that the culture had shown a bad infection (which was evident from her symptoms anyway)

hellohelp · 24/09/2023 05:41

Hope the drs have more answers in the morning. It's such a worry but glad he's ok now xx

LakieLady · 24/09/2023 06:25

So glad he's feeling better, OP.

Hope you're ok, too - it must have been terrifying for you.

mrshoho · 24/09/2023 06:33

So glad to hear he perked up and hope you will have some answers today xx

k1233 · 24/09/2023 06:48

I know kids aren't horses, but what you are describing sounds an awful lot like colic in horses, even the frequently trying to wee. Did they investigate trapped gas? I know it was mentioned really early in the thread. I'm assuming the scans would have picked up impaction if that was present.
