To be absolutely fed up with this type of inconsiderate parking

First of all I am not talking busy towns or cities as I know parking is difficult (although I still don’t agree with being inconsiderate).

I live in a village. A village with wide enough roads in which one can park their car on the road and there will still be plenty of space for traffic usage.

Yet people are parking like this on a daily occurrence.

I took this picture this morning. My mum and I were going for a little walk down the road she lives (we live in the same village). Parking like this meant we had to either cross over the road or step off the road and walk on the road around the car. The road is quite busy with regular buses and lorries passing through (often not adhering to the 30 limit but that is another story!) and as my 80 year old mum suffers from Alzheimer’s, is bent over with osteoporosis, uses a stick and is frail we decided not to risk it so turned and walked back instead. But we shouldn’t have had to do that. The pavements are designed for people not vehicles.

Why have people become so self centred and ableist? I work with disabled people and this is a daily occurrence for them. Having to cut their journey short or risk their lives by going onto the road. Are people now so materialistic that they will put their car before the safety of pedestrians?

I feel it’s about time the government made this an offence in certain areas and it should carry a fine. We have a PCSO who will come over and slap on inconsiderate parking tickets but it’s not cutting it.

Yesterday I walked my dog along 7 roads in our village and 5 of those roads had cars parked like this. The worst one was by the school. Cars all parked on the paths or double parked yet further down the road was free, people really are too damn lazy to park a little further down and actually walk.

People get knocked over all the time just crossing the road ….

The big difference is we choose a safe space to cross turn cross when it's safe. Drivers who park on paths are forcing people into the road. There's a huge difference there.

But this is avoidable if people didn’t park like twats.

And you can’t walk back a bit if needed to find a safer space to cross if you see a car? Use your head.

Or use your head and don't park where you are a danger.😠

TinglingTangling I can tell by all of your replies you are an inconsiderate parker.

People who park like this are dumb as shit.

They probably also text while driving, drive too fast and without seatbelts, and think themselves to be amazing drivers.

You have to be a special kind of pathetic to make excuses for it.

Graciebobcat · 22/09/2023 14:10

YANBU. I occasionally leave a wheel on the pavement (- but try not to - our road/pavement is a bit curved and it's hard to park straight!) but there is plenty of room for a pedestrian, double pram or wheelchair to pass along the pavement.

How does the fact being on the road is known to be dangerous for pedestrians mean parking on the pavement is ok?

If the councils are not stopping people… and mine doesn’t then it’s just what it is. Walk around the car and carry on. It’s not a big deal. People are acting like stepping onto a road is an immediate death sentence when millions of people cross the road every day and live to tell the tale.

YANBU. These builders park on the pavement every day and it’s not just a little bit, they’re on the entire pavement.

Bloody hell, they're on a double yellow too!

So you putting people in a dangerous situation is just what it is? Well I hope you won't mind people scratching your car because I definitely won't be making allowances for it

My child is blind and relies on a long cane (white stick to the uninformed); she does not unfortunately have supersonic hearing as her super power so walking in the road could quite literally be an immediate death sentence for her (especially with the increase on the roads of stealthily silent electric vehicles).

It is dangerous on a busy road. There is a reason we have pedestrian crossings on busy roads. I came across a car parked like this on quite a busy road when walking with the pram yesterday and it didn’t feel safe going on the road (and was also quite a long way to backtrack to use the pedestrian crossing).

I presume you are neither a wheelchair user or push someone who is.

I'm calling troll on this one. No one is really that thick surely?

I think you mean yourself.

Maxus · 22/09/2023 14:28

The footpath is to keep people safe. It is not a parking space.

YeahIsaidit · 22/09/2023 14:29

RaraRachael · 22/09/2023 11:30

We have a new neighbour who continually parks like this. The previous occupants never did this and there is absolutely no need to as there is plenty of room. It makes me so angry as I have to go around her car into the road with the pushchair endangering me and my grandson. That's bad enough but very inconsiderate for wheelchair or mobility scooter users. Just selfish.

Force the pram through the gap, their fault if the car gets scraped they shouldn't park on a footpath

I am no longer engaging with TinglingTangling they are either as thick as shit, a troll/wind up merchant, or so far up their own arse they can’t or don’t want to see other people’s struggles.

I am sorry your dd and so many other people with disabilities have to struggle in
situations such as this especially when there is absolutely no need for it.

Inconsiderate parking should come with fines across all of the UK to help protect all pedestrians.

Reminds me of the van parked in a disabled bay in central london when i was looking for a spot with my mum. Parking is hard there anyway, let alone vans taking up spaces. They had no badge, they were doing some work.

What exactly is your reason for parking on the pavement @TinglingTangling ?

RaraRachael · 22/09/2023 14:37

@CherryMaDeara I enquired about this but apparently it isn't an offence and there's not really anything the council can do about it 🙄
