To be absolutely fed up with this type of inconsiderate parking

First of all I am not talking busy towns or cities as I know parking is difficult (although I still don’t agree with being inconsiderate).

I live in a village. A village with wide enough roads in which one can park their car on the road and there will still be plenty of space for traffic usage.

Yet people are parking like this on a daily occurrence.

I took this picture this morning. My mum and I were going for a little walk down the road she lives (we live in the same village). Parking like this meant we had to either cross over the road or step off the road and walk on the road around the car. The road is quite busy with regular buses and lorries passing through (often not adhering to the 30 limit but that is another story!) and as my 80 year old mum suffers from Alzheimer’s, is bent over with osteoporosis, uses a stick and is frail we decided not to risk it so turned and walked back instead. But we shouldn’t have had to do that. The pavements are designed for people not vehicles.

Why have people become so self centred and ableist? I work with disabled people and this is a daily occurrence for them. Having to cut their journey short or risk their lives by going onto the road. Are people now so materialistic that they will put their car before the safety of pedestrians?

I feel it’s about time the government made this an offence in certain areas and it should carry a fine. We have a PCSO who will come over and slap on inconsiderate parking tickets but it’s not cutting it.

Yesterday I walked my dog along 7 roads in our village and 5 of those roads had cars parked like this. The worst one was by the school. Cars all parked on the paths or double parked yet further down the road was free, people really are too damn lazy to park a little further down and actually walk.

And a mass campaign for pedestrians to simply walk over the top of anything parked on the pavement. Bit more of a challenge with vans, but shiny BMWs would be so much fun!

I’m up for that crackofdoom 😂

Greenfinch7 it does appear as though they are putting the safety of lump of metal over human beings lives!

TinglingTangling an absolutely typical ableist reply. Do you actually know any wheelchair users or frail, elderly people?

OP posts:
Danikm151 · 22/09/2023 12:06

@TinglingTangling I’m guessing you drive everywhere!

there is not enough room for a wheelchair to pass through that gap so it’s wrong.

Allofthisisasimulation · 22/09/2023 12:07

Folk park like that here too, it's the height of selfishness and stupidity imho!

Yes as I also live in a village.

Go around. It’s not hard.

What an ignorant comment.

A wheelchair won't fit down the side of the car. Someone using a wheelchair may struggle to get down the kerb into the road and back up again the other side, and may well need patience from cars behind to achieve the manoeuvre - not a nice position to be in, especially for someone sitting so low compared to the cars.

Pavements are for pedestrians, and there's absolutely no need for this car to be parked in this way, they could have parked on the road.

Actually, it is.

Alittletripdownmemorylane · 22/09/2023 12:08

TinglingTangling you didn’t ask my question? Do you actually know what it’s like to be wheelchair bound?

OP posts:
alloalloallo · 22/09/2023 12:08

My road is like this too.

Drives me nuts. We’ve all got driveways but knobheads park all over the pavement and leave their drives empty.

According to our council, it’s not actually an offence to park on the pavement though

Then the cars can wait a extra minute. It’s life. People need to kick up a fuss about every tiny minor thing.

MrsMarzetti · 22/09/2023 12:12

Have you told I would make sure my pushchair scratched the car every single time.

Cakeorchocolate · 22/09/2023 12:15

YANBU.
I live next to a school, the parking of many is absolutely awful. Constantly blocking the entire footpath. I could add many photos to yours. It's not just at school times either but is guaranteed to happen twice a day, 5 days a week, since it is predictably worse then.

I've complained to the council but as it's not on a bus route or caused any life changing injuries or fatalities they won't do anything.

If I see the drivers on my way to or from school I politely ask them not to park where they have. I often have to walk in the road with my 8 Yr old (and soon to be with a baby too). It should be common sense but sadly it seems many prioritise their convenience over the safety of others.

Alittletripdownmemorylane · 22/09/2023 12:18

alloalloallo yes I don’t get this. So many around here have empty drives yet clog up the roads, what is that all about?
TinglingTangling you are still talking as someone who has zero idea or consideration for the disabled, old or frail. You seriously need to have a word with yourself. Maybe if you get old you will understand.

At least they pulled their door mirror in. Grin

Selfish, entitled, idiots parking like that

Hopefully a pedestrian 'accidentally' knocked it as they squeezed past.

Actually with my DD’s wheelchair it is hard.
bumping her up and down kerbs isn’t an option as she’s too big for that now

Parking in a way that prevents wheelchairs getting by on the path is selfish and inexcusable

Alittletripdownmemorylane · 22/09/2023 12:22

TinglingTangling what do you consider ‘kicking up a fuss’?
When the wheelchair user I work for had to go onto the road to bypass one of these inconsiderately parked cars, the wheel of her chair caught onto a large stone and she was propelled out of her chair onto the road. Luckily I was with her and helped. You think that’s ok? I am just making a fuss? You seriously have no idea of the struggles of those less fortunate than you. You are quite vile.

I see this and I raise you the car that parked on the pavement over my dropped kerb at the weekend. I'm 8.5 months pregnant and was ready to give them both barrels of don't you know I could go into labour any day you selfish cunt? Or just don't fucking block people's drives.

After half an hour of my husband trying to find them (bad parking all over the street for a school event - I spend 30m fending off other CF parking on other neighbours kerbs) it transpired that it was one of the neighbour's builders who'd come out, looked at us searching and fucked off back to work.

As they came over to move it when my husband twigged, I heard him utter the words "it's ok" - no it fucking wasn't DH!

I was leaving as they moved over, but even more CF from the school event tried to pull onto our kerb now that it was "free"!

To top it off, due to DH's mealy mouthed "it's ok" they parked over our drive again the next day. I made them move and posted an angry note to the neighbour for when they got back. DH a bit pissed off, because he ended up getting the neighbour talking to him about it when I was off.

But 1) if he hadn't been so wet in the first place they wouldn't have come back, and 2) our other neighbour happened to come around and say thanks to me for keeping the drive clear for his wife, and that he was going to challenge them himself then.

Samcro · 22/09/2023 12:37

I hate this my adult dc is a wheelchair user, why the fuck should I have to take her into the road.
I would squeeze in the gap with her if I could and if the car gets scratched , tough

dcsp · 22/09/2023 12:38

You're not being unreasonable at all. But regarding

"Why have people become so self centred and ableist?"

I don't think they are being self-centred - I think they're parking in what they (wrongly) think is a more considerate manner than leaving the car on the road. They're not doing this to be horrible but because they've somehow come to think it's the nicer thing to do.

And the more drivers that do it, the more other drivers will also wrongly think it is the nicer thing to do, and then they'll be "helpful" in future by doing the same.

I'm not saying the people are right to park on the pavement - but that they're doing the wrong thing out of a mistaken belief they're doing the right thing.

You're right about ableist of course.

What about if it was me though?. I have MS and I walk with a frame. Sometimes a wheelchair.

People park like this in my village and it annoys the hell out of me. I just don’t see the point, the road still isn’t wide enough for 2 cars to pass each other with a car parked half up on the pavement so what do they think they are helping with by doing it?!?

TigerRag · 22/09/2023 12:42

TinglingTangling · 22/09/2023 12:07

Yes as I also live in a village.

I'm both visually and hearing impaired. I can't see or always hear the cars coming if I go around.

Why should I risk getting run over because you can't be arsed to park properly?
