To be absolutely fed up with this type of inconsiderate parking

First of all I am not talking busy towns or cities as I know parking is difficult (although I still don’t agree with being inconsiderate).

I live in a village. A village with wide enough roads in which one can park their car on the road and there will still be plenty of space for traffic usage.

Yet people are parking like this on a daily occurrence.

I took this picture this morning. My mum and I were going for a little walk down the road she lives (we live in the same village). Parking like this meant we had to either cross over the road or step off the road and walk on the road around the car. The road is quite busy with regular buses and lorries passing through (often not adhering to the 30 limit but that is another story!) and as my 80 year old mum suffers from Alzheimer’s, is bent over with osteoporosis, uses a stick and is frail we decided not to risk it so turned and walked back instead. But we shouldn’t have had to do that. The pavements are designed for people not vehicles.

Why have people become so self centred and ableist? I work with disabled people and this is a daily occurrence for them. Having to cut their journey short or risk their lives by going onto the road. Are people now so materialistic that they will put their car before the safety of pedestrians?

I feel it’s about time the government made this an offence in certain areas and it should carry a fine. We have a PCSO who will come over and slap on inconsiderate parking tickets but it’s not cutting it.

Yesterday I walked my dog along 7 roads in our village and 5 of those roads had cars parked like this. The worst one was by the school. Cars all parked on the paths or double parked yet further down the road was free, people really are too damn lazy to park a little further down and actually walk.

It is upsetting that cars are more important than people.

Well to be honest, MY car is more important to ME than any stranger will ever be.

That is the truth of the situation for the majority of people.

WTAF??

You would put a disposable lump of metal before a living fellow human being?

Our neighbour in our culdesac complained the dc in the road all ride scooters in the road and it’s dangerous/might hit cars. I very politely said “yes it’s shame they can’t scoot in the pavements but the cars are parked there so they have to use the road. He’s since moved where he parks his rather expensive car and he’s still talking to me so maybe he realised he was the issue.

Ok. Just be aware that other people children are more important to them so don't be surprised when you car is scratched by a buggy or several.

We have a new neighbour who continually parks like this. The previous occupants never did this and there is absolutely no need to as there is plenty of room. It makes me so angry as I have to go around her car into the road with the pushchair endangering me and my grandson. That's bad enough but very inconsiderate for wheelchair or mobility scooter users. Just selfish.

You could get them reported so they get a ticket at least.

If your car was that important you’d park the car a bit further so it was safer or off the road.

The car in OP’s picture is just asking for a lopped off wing mirror.

HelpIcantfindaname · 22/09/2023 13:23

My neighbour has his large camper van parked half across the pavement. I can manage with my grandson's stroller but not easily if I have my dogs too. A double buggy wouldn't fit. It's so close to the corner it is quite dangerous to walk into the road around it as cars come round the corner fast, despite it being a 20mph road
It also makes it hard for me to get mr car off my drive as I can't see if anything is coming...but that would be the same if he had all 4 wheels parked on the road. It is a narrow street.
I now tend not to walk on the streets near here where everybody parks on the path.

Unfortunately this also seems to be the opinion of the Mercedes SUV monstrosity owner near me. Takes up the pavement because he doesn’t want his too big car to be scratched.

Agreed. All disabled, elderly and vulnerable people should be prepared to sacrifice themselves under the wheels of motor vehicles on the highways so that alpha car owners do not have to be worried about their precious lumps of metal getting the odd ding. Actually, I’m surprised that the government hasn’t considered this as a national strategy to rid itself of the work-shy disabled and their free Motability cars.

This sums up our society today. Self centred cunts.

Cakecakecheese · 22/09/2023 13:27

Even if it was easy to walk around (I'm not disabled I have a child in a pram) why should I have to? The pavement is there for a reason it's not bloody decoration is it?

A lot tend to beleive they are being really considerate by giving other cars plenty of space 😆😆

People have been knocked over when forced to walk on the road to avoid twat parkers.

Bet that’s just silly stuff to you too, as long as it doesn’t happen to you.

If that was remotely true you wouldn’t park it where it’s likely to get scratched by a wheelchair or buggy. It’s just lazy selfishness.

What a sad state of affairs that a piece of metal is more important to you than the safety of humans. Must be sad to be so cold and weird.

kitsuneghost · 22/09/2023 13:32

Why do my hessian bags always scratch my car putting them in the boot but never seem to scratch the cars of these wankers is what I would like to know.

wineandmaltesershappyme · 22/09/2023 13:37

No people don't park like that everywhere. In my village you might find the odd van doing it on a very short term basis (an few hours), builders doing long term work park considerately, as do residents and visitors.
Never come across this kind of parking where my mum lives or where my dad lives.
This doesn't affect me at all but still infuriates me that some idiot will leave their car like that and make things harder for those who struggle to get past, it's being a decent person to think of others, both drivers AND pedestrians!

Shadesofmediocrity · 22/09/2023 13:40

I follow the Guide Dogs UK charity on Instagram and they've just started a campaign for restrictions on parking on pavements throughout the UK. They are asking people to sign their petition which they're hoping to take to the transport secretary. So maybe everyone on this thread who agrees with the OP should take a minute to sign the online petition?

Alittletripdownmemorylane · 22/09/2023 13:47

Shadesofmediocrity I will definitely sign that.

Shadypaws23 · 22/09/2023 13:49

People park like that here but the pavement is ridiculously wide so you can fit a wheelchair or a double buggy down with no issues

ActDottie · 22/09/2023 13:55

Yep this happens on our estate and it infuriates me, atm I can cope but soon to have a baby and I’m worried what I’d do with a pram. It’s even worse in town as the pavements are narrower and roads busier.

One neighbour on our estate even parks like this because they can’t be arsed to open their gates and park on the drive!!!!! Makes me so angry cuz it’s a new estate where parking has been allocated to all the houses to prevent this exact issue.

flumposie · 22/09/2023 13:57

This happens here a lot. Once my choice was to squeeze through a narrow gap or walk into a main road with flowing traffic. As I squeezed down the side the driver got in the van, didn't see me, drove off and knocked me over, landing in bushes. They were clueles and didn't stop. Other drivers witnessed it.
