To think that girl's and women's swimsuits are sexualised

Why should I have to make sure I've tidied my pubic hair before going swimming? None of my other clothes cut so close to my genitalia.
Is it about aerodynamics? (the swim shorts worn by most men definitely aren't)
Or were they designed by men and now we're all just conforming to societal norms?

@VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia you can always buy bottoms elsewhere
i have a large bust so often by bra bikinis to fit and then bottoms I want so mix and match, you can also buy board shorts and wear these over if you want
plus actually sometimes i want a small bikini as I want to show my body, why not its mine ? If i feel comfortable.
but to say there is no choice is not true
bravismo is very limited but just one place
i also buy tankinis and have got these to fit my bust size in various places
shein, asda, simply be, curvissa etc

Professional athletes for individual sports don’t really get to choose either- their sponsors control the design of their kit to maximise marketing and sex sells.

Amateur athletes, yes they can choose.
Professional athletes don’t have free choice whether team or individual.

They absolutely do in many cases. You see it in athletes from same team, and also same athlete in different rounds...sometimes they wear a one piece, sometimes a two peice, sometimes long shorts, sometimes short.
Any sort of restriction for any reason except fairness is wrong....swimming has rules on race suit design and coverage for example.

The fact is if you don't mind the lack of coverage the smaller and closer fitting the better the mobility. But yes lots of athletes also want to look good....as most of us do.
Is that sexualisation??? I am genuinely not sure.

The nearest they do is a swim dress, but that's still going to flash my Danazol pubes-to-mid-thigh.

Mix and match? Top/one piece from one shop, bottoms from another.
Unfortunately people are less common sizes will always have this problem but as a large lady, I can't walk into many places on the high street and buy clothes....but I have always managed to find decent swimwear if I shop around.

You could make the same argument for men's speedos.

I was watching an old episode of A Touch Of Frost a few months ago and nearly fell out of my chair when I saw the huge bush on one of the actors who was filming scenes in a swimming pool.

It's been said a lot of times. I'm not sure attempts comparisons are helpful or have any bearing on how women feel about their clothing options

Oh sorry, I didn't realise you were in charge of what I was allowed to post. I'll stick to helpful posts only in future. 🙄

How come my board shorts are shorter than his?

I would assume anatomy...
It might be safety precautions if inside netting fails so they don't end up... Peaking....

Abergale · 26/09/2023 08:02

I love this , I wish they sold too and bottoms separately though. I have small boobs but I’m tall so I always need two different sizes. I feel like women with big chests must have same problem so I’m surprised it isn’t more common to sell them separately?

Hmmm yeah I hadn’t thought of that. That is frustrating!

I buy my bikinis as separates. I didn’t realise it wasn’t common.

This thread brings me back to when I was 8 or 9 years old on holiday. I came up from under the water next to the ladder in the swimming pool, preparing to get out, and there was a woman half way up the ladder, also exiting the pool, who I didn't see until I was above the water and she had a mass of hair splayed out on either side of her bikini bottoms 🤢 please trim or cover up your bits appropriately.

Dear God do what you want with your pubic hair.

It seems to be hit and miss to me as to whether I’m able. The one op linked to you couldn’t.

I see that you are male.
How sad that you find the sight of pubic hair so inappropriate.

You were seriously already policing grown women's bodies when you were 8 or 9 years old?

Also, if I had been loitering underneath a ladder as a strange woman was climbing out of the pool my mother would have told me to give her some space.

I have the above, bust support cos I need it, two piece as I'm not very mobile when walking and would struggle to wrangle myself out of a wet one-piece by the time I'd made it to the loo, shorts legs so no fear of pubes showing.

Women can buy swimwear in whatever style they please. 🤷‍♀️

I love this. It's much better choice now than when I first started to go on holiday and thought we all had to have an itsy bitsy teeny weeny bikini as that annoying song mentions.

InYourHeadZombieeeaeaeaea · 26/09/2023 12:25

I think tiny bikini still have their place sometimes tbh. When I was young I always had 4+ sets of different swimsuits.
Tiny bikini for tanning (I am WHITE and any tan lines shines like club face paint under UV light🙄) so often was without top anyway. Bigger ones, tankini or some more solid solid ones for actually swimming and jumping days etc so nothing pops out and full ones. Depended on mood and which pool/lake we were at. We used to spend most summers by water so more sets were simply practical.

I think it's good to have choices and now we have more than ever before.

Fannyannie · 26/09/2023 12:36

@MrsTerryPratchett
just looked @ the website. I’m planning to get shorts and T-shirt for my holiday next year - will feel less exposed and horrifying the rest of the beach !

Judgy prats like you are part of why I am scared to go swimming.

You'd have a fit at many pole classes.

Sprogonthetyne · 26/09/2023 12:52

My kids have these. DD has the unicorn on & DS has the sharks one. Both exactly the same cut, and no one hets sunburn.

Oh, I do apologise for being a bit weirded out by a face full of pubes as a small child! Good heavens!

I expect the woman was just as weirded out by a small child's face right up her arse.

I wasn't loitering. I came up to the surface directly infront of the ladder. I wasn't policing anyone's bodies, it just was so unexpected and shocking to me at the time.

I could easily wear my swim shorts a bit lower and expose a strip of my pubic hair in public... I assume that's perfectly okay? You wouldn't be policing my body would you, or think showing a bit of natural pubic hair is a problem and fuck everyone else's sensibilities, correct? Hmm.
