Hello all

DH and I are expecting our first daughter and have decided on the name Skylar. We are aware she might get nicknamed Sky or Skye which we are happy with.

but I see so many threads hating that name. Maybe a few likes, but most seem against it. Is it really that bad? What is wrong with it?!
we love the name so much and really don’t want anything else.

are we being unreasonable to go ahead with it?

Just seen your username. For a moment I thought someone had called their child 'Turd' - pmsl.
Ignore me, lol.

I have three children and there are negative opinions and connotations to all of them. My ds’s name got ‘are you Amish?’ 🤨
Dd1’s name got the famous ‘it rhymes with chlamydia’ or ‘people will call her dustbin’. Neither of those things have been an issue. She has never been called a dustbin.
Dd3’s people actually yodelled and asked if I was going to get a pet goat. I’ll be honest, people do still occasionally yodel but she can handle it!

Basically you will never please everyone with your name choice so you may as well give up now and just please yourselves. I also think Skylar is quite a pretty sounding name anyway.

@daisypond I know a few children named Skylar, all girls. Never heard a boy called it.
