Actually no it's just 3

ntmdino · 16/09/2023 23:05

3 is the only one that will fill.

  • 7 never gets any water because the pipe is blocked at 3.
  • 6 never gets any water because the pipe is blocked.
  • 2, 4 and 5 never get any water because 3 will continue getting water after it overflows, and the pipe to 2 will never be reached in glass 1.
malmi · 16/09/2023 23:09

Nope. 3, then 6, then 7. Look at it.

carrotcaketop · 16/09/2023 23:10

3,4,2,1

Tgbtgb · 16/09/2023 23:18

3

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 16/09/2023 23:21

3 will fill first.
Then 6 and 7 because 3 will overflow and the water will flow into them by flowing around the outside of the pipes.
Then 4, then 2 etc.

Ooh, almost! But once 6 and 7 are full, the water will just run onto the floor and 4, 2 etc will never fill.

LastNightAPandaSavedMyLife · 16/09/2023 23:28

Thank you wise mumsnetters

7635421 was correct

Um…..no. It’s 3. 567 are blocked.

ntmdino · 16/09/2023 23:28

malmi · 16/09/2023 23:09

Nope. 3, then 6, then 7. Look at it.

That requires an extra assumption - that the glasses are perfectly level around the lip.

LastNightAPandaSavedMyLife · 16/09/2023 23:29

Actually none of them are filling up as the lid is still on the bottle.

CasperGutman · 16/09/2023 23:30

But 3 is open to the atmosphere at the top. Try putting water into an open glass that's already full. What happens? The excess water overflows. Pouring it through a tube makes no difference to the outcome.

Yes, the glasses are presented as being level not tilted so I think that's reasonable. Otherwise it's impossible to say whether it's 6 or 7 that fills after 3. If it's level they both fill.

LastNightAPandaSavedMyLife · 16/09/2023 23:29

Well it's obviously not watertight there's a massive drop of water coming through!

MicrowaveRice · 16/09/2023 23:35

Fromage · 16/09/2023 22:04

Also, I have questions about the water flow rate. Is it dripping in? Is the tap doing an impression of Niagara Falls? Is the tap-owner on a water meter? Is there a drought? Why isn't it wine and where is my wine?

This last question is the most important.

whatsappdoc · 16/09/2023 23:37

It's only 3 as it will overflow. How do 6 and 7 fill with blocked pipes?

ImustLearn2Cook · 16/09/2023 23:40

1, 3, 7, 2, 5, 6, 4

I wrote mine before I read anyone else’s. It will be interesting to see what others wrote.

@Coqueta great puzzle!

ImustLearn2Cook · 16/09/2023 23:44

Omg! I had to enlarge the picture to see that some of the pipes are blocked. I am using my phone and the screen isn’t very big.

Still haven’t RTFT, but will try again.

It's only 3 as it will overflow. How do 6 and 7 fill with blocked pipes?

In the diagram, the water will overflow down the top/outside of the pipes into 6 and 7

ImustLearn2Cook · 16/09/2023 23:50

1, 3, 6, 2, 4. My second attempt. Will read more pp and there might be a third attempt 🙂

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby · 16/09/2023 23:53

Bollocks that was meant to be 3124

Testina · 16/09/2023 23:54

Assuming that the drip 💧 indicates that the cap on the bottle will be removed, are we factoring in a finite amount of water in that bottle? Doesn’t look big enough to fill all the glasses than can theoretically be reached.

ImustLearn2Cook · 16/09/2023 23:56

Ok third attempt after a quick re-look at the picture.

1, 3, 2, 4

This is for the order of the glasses filling up, not the order of them being filled completely.
