In a supermarket and heard a middle aged woman say 'OH! You've got back off your holibobs then!?'

What is wrong with saying 'holiday'? I actually cringed when I heard it.

Feel free to add your own...

No ?
'You have a shower every day, no? '

muchalover · 17/09/2023 09:01

Little man when referring to a baby or child.

Nobody calls a girl child or baby little woman.

Anoushkaka · 17/09/2023 09:04

Supper
Pudding
Boils my piss
Massive salad
Picky bits
Be kind

Stupendousseptember · 17/09/2023 09:04

"not best pleased".

Poorly to mean ill. I know it’s irrational but I cannot stand it and I don’t really know why.

My grandson (5) explained the difference.

Ill is when you are in bed and have medicine. Poorly is when you can just stay home and do things you like all day.

He hates school and will often say " I'm going to be poorly tomorrow".

Stupendousseptember · 17/09/2023 09:05

Hun sounds so incredibly fake and awful

Nanny instead of granny. You're not an old goat

Completely disagree. Granny is a really ugly word but Nanny sounds much nicer. My DM is Nanny and her DM was too. I likely will be when/if my children have children.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/09/2023 09:07

@Passingplace , yes, it always used to be ‘railway station’, so ‘train station’ really irritates me, too.

I hate pamper/pampering, probably because they’re so often associated with spa days, which TBH I’d run a mile from.

Kinda, gonna, sorta - these all make me want to slap whoever typed them, too.

Beaverbridge · 17/09/2023 09:07

Yummy, said by adults when a plate of food is put in front of them. Gives me the rage.
Hubby.

Anewuser · 17/09/2023 09:10

@StrongandNorthern · Yesterday 19:50

Hollibobs, hun, 'making memories', train station.

I’ve just laughed out loud. Can’t get my head around Train Station?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/09/2023 09:10

@BeingATwatItsABingThing , how dare you say Granny is an ugly word? 😉
I’m a Granny, and I much prefer it to all the other words, especially Grandma, which sounds so horribly old and fat!

Wolfpa · 17/09/2023 09:16

Living his/her best life.
Making memories.
Living the dream.
Smashing whatever (usually 'it'). A red mist descends when I see or hear it.

I agree with these but also anyone who has “been on a journey” it is hugely overused.

Dunnoburt · 17/09/2023 09:17

"Pacific"........its SPECIFIC 🤬

Sorry 😂 isn’t it weird how we all hear words differently?!

NyanBinaryJohn · 17/09/2023 09:19

Unalived.

Because apparently the word 'killed' is triggering. This one is mostly used by those people who engage in psychobabble.

Dunnoburt · 17/09/2023 09:19

Oh and the super sarcastic "really?"

sammylady37 · 17/09/2023 09:21

‘I was today years old when I realised…’ is a phrase that makes no grammatical sense and makes me think the person saying it is quite stupid.

Using ‘passed’ or ‘passing’ to mean ‘died’ or ‘death’. They are awful euphemisms and do nothing to improve how people cope with death.

AgnesX · 17/09/2023 09:24

Excited - everybody's so excited except that we're not
Off of (not just off)
Park up/pack lunch/pack up.... when did people stop parking and taking a packed lunch

Bluewitch · 17/09/2023 09:45

Curated

Low hanging fruits

Hun sounds so incredibly fake and awful

In my last job there was a woman who always called me hun and I assumed it was because she either didn't know or couldn't remember my name.

I hate it too.

I also loathe babe(s) usually seen on Facebook. Also, discusting, only ever seen on Facebook.

AllAnusMorisette · 16/09/2023 20:31

The word GIFT as a verb, just horrible.

Yes! I'm glad it's not just me!

Hatred of certain words/phrases
Willmafrockfit · 17/09/2023 10:02

Just a Gentle Reminder!!
so unnecessary
even the Dentist sent me an email with the above phrase!

Willmafrockfit · 17/09/2023 10:04

somebody referred to our waiting list as a journey
which is just wrong, you are waiting at the station truthfully

Yet "passed", "passed on/away" is perfectly acceptable and pretty much the norm in many parts of the English speaking world. I'd also disagree that they don't help people deal with death. I think they help people probably enormously to see death as just the next stage.
