£25 to set up a direct debit

So I need to rejoin the gym . Popped in today to ask about pricing and they want £25 to set up the direct debit with my bank . Are they having a bit of a laugh ?

But if they remove the fee people will join/cancel/join/cancel/join/cancel. Turning it into a PAYG service..

There will be large peaks and troughs of membership which will screw the cash flow and ability to run a sustainable service.
