Writing a review of a product…

’haven’t used it yet because I got it for my cousin’s birthday and she hasn’t opened it.

why write the review then?! Are people genuinely that stupid?

When one of the possible side effects listed on medication is the same as for which it was prescribed

I used to take a tablet for migraine which is also prescribed for epilepsy. A few people who took it for migraine said they ended up in A&E because they started having seizures.

On the argos website there are lots of reviews that say "bought for our grandson for Christmas, I'm sure he'll love it" helpful 🤣.

I actually love those reviews. They're heartwarming.

I wish our doctor would hold back on their "satisfaction survey"

Questions like how likely are you to use us again?
Ans) You are the only Practice for about 10 miles and there are no buses!

Are you likely to recommend us to your family?
We are already all signed up.

Who analyses these results? Sounds a cushy little part time job!

Had one of these after annual medication check. 'Please rate this service' by very good, good, adequate etc. Duly clicked very good, then got a message 'why did you use this rating?' pondered the idiocy of the question for a moment, then replied 'because it was very good.'

Unfortunately wasn't asked to rate the receptionist who thought an appointment requiring a blood test could be done over the phone.

@Meowandthen oh yes I’ve seen that too!! ‘Not sure hun.’ Cheers 👍

I do this. But only to one person. They ask a lot of questions, so I do remind them about Google and telephones too.

My daughter works at an airport and is regularly astonished at people's lack of common sense. She's had passengers leave the airport - presumably to have a cigarette outside - without firstly picking up their luggage. They thought they could go back for it later apparently.
Or a woman who went all the way through security, and then back into the main terminal building, as she wasn't sure if there would be toilets in departures. Erm, why not just ask ... Shock

I think the problem is people get sent a 'please review our product' email and if they aren't used to ignoring stuff like that they feel obliged to reply.

This. My MIL thinks ignoring ANY request is rude.

She won't even wait to have the full information if it's imminently expected. She'd prefer to ring a friend back to say she "maybe" can do something xyz rather than wait the 5 minutes it would take to check she's free / not we can have the dog etc first and actually give a useful answer.

I once worked with a SOLICITOR who asked me (assistant) how she can post a letter. I told her to pop it in the post tray. Later I saw that she had put the letter in without putting it in an envelope. I took it back and said they have to go in already in an envelope. So she put it in an envelope, sealed it, and popped it back in. I asked her how the postman was meant to deliver the letter if she didnt actually write on the front.....

I remember the time we had a couple of supposedly very bright Oxbridge medical students on work experience. They were, amongst other matters, asked to print off letters for signature plus copies which they had to put on the files. One of them proudly told me they'd done the job and brought me back the files but I couldn't see any letters. When I asked where they were, he showed them to me neatly hole-punched and in the files. When I pointed out that we sort of needed them to get to their recipients, he looked quite baffled.

Then there was the time the other one couldn't understand why the letters weren't coming out printed on letterhead paper. Unsurprisingly, when we checked it was because he'd put blank paper in the relevant tray. Someone kindly replaced it for him, only to turn round to see the student putting the blank paper back in. Apparently he thought they were just showing him how to do it and had used the wrong paper.

sueelleker · 16/09/2023 08:32

He may have thought the letterhead would get printed automatically. I worked in a hospital pharmacy, and when we first started using printed labels, we used blank ones; and the computer added our hospital address to the label itself. There were 4 hospitals in our district, and it was cheaper than buying separate pre-printed labels for each one.

@Patineur i have some
sympathy with this though… you might be bright but if you’ve not used letterhead before, I would assume it prints on a blank page as part of the set up of the company systems. In my mind that’s totally unconnected to intelligence, it’s simply not having done it before, so how would you know.

Ooooo.

The hotel provided 5* service.
However I would not stay at this Hotel again as I was pickpocketed at the airport

🤷

I saw similar for one hotel in St Lucia. It was a complete rant about how the hotel (which had a little stand outside the airport next to the taxis) did not send their staff through the airport to locate the reviewer’s elderly parents and assist them to collect their cases, go through customs etc, with a very brief “but the hotel itself was quite nice” at the end.

Other negative reviews for that hotel included that it did not allow non-guests such as random taxi drivers and locals inside its premises (it was purely all inclusive so no-one had to wear bands or similar to show the package they were on).

I started a thread ages ago about reviews but got no takers 🙁.
But I posted one review that really made me laugh out loud for quite some time . https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/4824628-the-best-reviews

Your are right @wbagnlw some are pointless but some are pure gold

This is brilliant 😂

Yeah my DH still moans about the time he was prescribed painkillers for a headache which common possible side effects was listed as 'a headache'.

Never had such an e-mail, & I'm a long-time regular Amazon customer

If you ignore the emails they stop sending them, if you reply you will continue getting the emails!

Throwncrumbs · 16/09/2023 12:23

GG1986 · 15/09/2023 11:20

Yes I see this all the time! Usually the over 60s who don't really know how to use social media, so will get an email to say review the product you purchased and they think they actually have to write a review rather than ignore it.

People over 60 who don’t know how to use social media, yeah they’re the ones not posing filtered pics or posting about how fantastic their lives are with pics of the whole family smiling when everyone knows the marriage is on the rocks, they are also ‘living their best life’ without reporting about it every 5 minutes!

Superlegs · 16/09/2023 12:29

They pose them as ‘your reviews are having an amazing impact’ to me. Even though I review very infrequently and usually only a few words at that, to flatter me into following the link, they’re not direct requests to review.

BluebellsForest · 16/09/2023 13:44

Wow, lots of resentment uncovered by a post about some older people who are not fully aware of all aspects of the internet.

May be start your own thread?

Nina198 · 16/09/2023 17:52

Haha this actually infuriates me!

Missingpop · 16/09/2023 18:00

My favourite review is ….. It’s nice I really do like it but can right a better review because I’ve sent it back; I didn’t like the material!! 🤦‍♀️ wtf is that one about. I took a screenshot & sent it to friends who thought it was a joke 😂😂😂😂 but it was a real post

nomadmummy · 16/09/2023 18:29

Those are the types that tell me I’m rude when I ask them not to comment unless they have something useful to add. 😆

DopeyS · 16/09/2023 18:30

One thing that really bugs me about reviews that I've seen fairly often is something like 'absolutely amazing product, brilliant, can't fault it' and then one star out of 5. How do people not know how star systems work for reviewing??

sharonarnott · 16/09/2023 18:31

I looked at the reviews of a book yesterday. The top review said "It's a book, I read it end of" The one below it said "Not applicable" Two totally pointless comments. Whomever okays these posts for publication on Amazon needs sacking in my opinion

nomadmummy · 16/09/2023 18:31

That’s when you click delete. Or spam. Or unsubscribe. Writing pointless reviews does nobody any good.

HattersLane · 16/09/2023 19:04

It's a means of getting into a prize draw. And yes, l won one.

CanadianJohn · 16/09/2023 19:51

When I had a vasectomy back in 1970, when the procedure was much less common, I had to sign a form "I understand that by this operation I may become infertile."

Can't say I wasn't warned.

Lopoem · 16/09/2023 20:24

Once saw a review for a duvet for super king size bed (the one we ended up buying). It was 1 star. Complained it was too long and narrow for the duvet cover. Ummm.... think you may have put it in the wrong way.
