i know people will say its none of my business but i will be watching him when she goes back to work and i really cant imagine myself shouting this name out around tesco's.

is there ever a right time to tell someone the name they have chosen is terrible or is it always best to not say a thing.

i can see his whole life being spoilt by this name (yes it is that bad)

I had to add that that was an anti climax for me too. I was going through the pages to see if JR would ever tell what it was.
Henry

Well I guess I can see why some would not like it, but I think it is lovely myself.

My DH had the same sort of reaction to Rose for our DD. He just hated it, without good reason I always thought. But now, my DD could be anything but a Bernadette.

twinklingfairy · 04/03/2008 00:14

Couldn't not could, doh!!

eidsvold · 04/03/2008 02:03

what a load of old codswallop - nothing wrong with Henry - definitely a popular name here too.

If it is good enough for a prince

egypt · 04/03/2008 03:41

look, you are worried because

a) what people would think if you shouted it in public

b) his whole life would be ruined by it

Solutions:
a) Now you know what the public think of it and there's no problem, so nobody will think ANYTHING in tesco's

b) His whole life won't be ruined by it as it's as common and normal as any other common and normal name

so now you can breathe a sigh of relief that your concerns are no longer a problem.

RIGHT??

egypt · 04/03/2008 03:45

my sister had a problem with the name we were going to use for our baby if it was a boy. it was Isaac. she was insensed by it. couldn't believe it, was q racist about it.....totally put me off. so not fair, i really resented her.

we had a girl

MrsJohnCusack · 04/03/2008 03:51

WTF is wrong with Henry? (sorry onebatmother, NOT going to let her off the hook yet)

(I have one. It's a fabulous name)

did you choose the moniker 'juliaroberts' on purpose? - her son is called Henry

AnnainNZ · 04/03/2008 05:18

Oh, I was hoping you wouldn't see this thread MrsJC...

It's a lovely name. And happy 1st birthday to your Henry on Saturday (it is Saturday, isn't it?)

Youcannotbeserious · 04/03/2008 08:04

I think Henry is a lovely name too....

My Ex wanted to call his first son Isambard, which I did think was a bit odd.

But, Henry....I don't think it'll lead to any problems.

IndigoMoon · 04/03/2008 08:13

Surely you are joking? . There are more Henrys around here than you can shake a stick at! The only problem in calling out "Henry" in the supermarket is loads of little preschoolers will come running.

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/03/2008 08:21

Jeez - I've heard it all now.

MrsFish · 04/03/2008 08:28

If you think Henry is bad (DH's middle name btw) I have met a 6month old called Stanley (My grandads name) and there is a Reggie at ds2's nursery

bozza · 04/03/2008 08:36

Egypt I didn't know that about your sister. My nephew is an Isaac (also known as Baby Zac) and it really suits him. But, of course, your choice of girls' names also very lovely.

I was expecting something a bit more interesting than Henry TBH. No offense to any Mums of Henrys there. I think it is perfectly OK to privately dislike even very traditional and popular names. But a bit much to expect everyone else to have the same opinion.

kayzisbroody · 04/03/2008 08:41

I was really expecting something really different and/or wierd. But Henry!!
I quite like it and I don't think anyone in Tesco's will look at your sister strangely.

I dont know if you have kids but just hope your sister doesn't hate any names you pick/picked for your kids.

hertsnessex · 04/03/2008 08:48

JR,

I like older type of names and henry is lovely - my nephew is a henry and is great. far from having his 'whole life ruined' he is a great boy, as he would be with any name. think you need to get a grip.

AnneMayesR · 04/03/2008 08:55

Oh I like the name Henry. As time passes you will find that it really suits him and everytime you think of the name "Henry" you will think of his sweet little face.

I know someone who called her son Random Abel. We just bit our tongues as it was her choice what to call her child.

I really like the name Abraham but DH shot me down on that one. So we have a Noah and a Luke. My MIL went apeshit over Noah and called the whole family in for emergency meetings to try and talk us out of it.

suzi2 · 04/03/2008 09:01

all of this fuss has been about Henry??? Nothing wrong with Henry at all. I'd say just keep quiet. He's not your child and it's not like she called him Horny or Happy or something!

AnneMayesR · 04/03/2008 09:10

I really thought that she was going to say Hector or Hammish or something like that.

skidoodle · 04/03/2008 09:20

Best thread evar disagree about the anti-climax though. Henry penry saved it. As for the grandad calling all his grandchildren fishface? Genius

LilRedWG · 04/03/2008 09:23

Henry is a lovely name. I need to know what you would have named him?

LilRedWG · 04/03/2008 09:24

Oh, and even if she had called him Satan, you must never ever tell her you think it's an awful name.

MrsJohnCusack · 04/03/2008 09:25

THank you Anna! it is indeed Saturday

am not upset by this, just think it's ^weird

not many Henrys in NZ TBH, is seen as quite unusual

SorenLorensen · 04/03/2008 09:27

Henry? I thought it was going to be Beelzebub Big Mac the Third or somesuch.

Henry's fine

MehgaLegs · 04/03/2008 09:28

Henry is a totally brilliant name .
