i know people will say its none of my business but i will be watching him when she goes back to work and i really cant imagine myself shouting this name out around tesco's.

is there ever a right time to tell someone the name they have chosen is terrible or is it always best to not say a thing.

i can see his whole life being spoilt by this name (yes it is that bad)

You are being completely unreasonable. Henry is not my favourite name, but it certainly isn'tcause for a thread about the poor little guy.

Besides, Henry is a very useful engine indeed.

Lulumama · 03/03/2008 21:44

you think henry is so bad a name, he will have his whole life spoilt by it ?

i repeat

MaeWest · 03/03/2008 21:44

Humph, only Henry, and I thought it might be something really odd and objectionable...

2littlehorrors · 03/03/2008 21:45

Henry was on our shortlist for DS2. It's really cute. Believe me that I speak from experience re family members making their thoughts known about choice of baby names. Please don't do it unless you don't want any contact with your nephew!

chelsygirl · 03/03/2008 21:46

so julia whats your kids called then?

Habbibu · 03/03/2008 21:46

Oh, poor jr!!! Just keep thinking "It's not Haardvark, it's not Haardvark". Then you'll find yourself shouting "Haaaarrrrdvaaarrrk!!!" in Tescos because of Don't-Mention-The-War syndrome.

harpsichordcarrier · 03/03/2008 21:46

this is a wind up, right?
the only difficulty with that name is that if you shout it in Tesco, about 50% of the boys will turn around.
the half that aren't called Sam or Oliver

BarcodeZebra · 03/03/2008 21:46

It think it's a shame that you don't like this perfectly normal name.

On the plus side though, look at all the fun we've had at your expense.

Seriously, you'll get used to it before you know it. It won't sound weird and odd any more, it'll just be your fab wee nephew.

"Henry, stop rubbing lamb mince on your baby sister."

See. No problem.

Hulababy · 03/03/2008 21:46

I was really expecting something really much more shocking than the name Henry!

Tickle · 03/03/2008 21:47

you have great taste fletcharr

chelsygirl · 03/03/2008 21:47

TLSM · 03/03/2008 21:49

I really wouldnt say anything as its not the worst name she could have chosen in fact i quite like it! At least its not something stupid like moon or goat

runnyhabbit · 03/03/2008 21:49

as a massive aside - I am having great trouble typing, since DH spilt a huge glass of wine over the keyboard last night, I have randomly sticking keys

runnyhabbit · 03/03/2008 21:52

and tbh, would be wary of shortening it to Harry unless his mum says so. (would've thought that they would've named him Harry in the first place iyswim)

gingeme · 03/03/2008 21:52

We have a hoover called Henry in fact ds5 was going to be Henry if it wasn't for this fact....

boudoiricca · 03/03/2008 21:55

chuh - I really like Henry. definite name for future DS. (Henners is vetoed as nickname tho)

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 03/03/2008 21:59

from a baby name site...

"Henry, also known as Hal, Harry, Hank
Meaning
Ruler of the estate"

You could always call him Harry or Hank....your special name for him.

but nowt wrong with henry really.

BarcodeZebra · 03/03/2008 22:07

Hank?

The poor woman's embarrassed by Henry! How's she going to manage Hank???!!!

Tickle · 03/03/2008 22:08

fletch the Hector bit - I am biased as I have a lovely one Mind you with those sticking keys, maybe you wanted to say you loathed Hector...

TheFallenMadonna · 03/03/2008 22:13
