i know people will say its none of my business but i will be watching him when she goes back to work and i really cant imagine myself shouting this name out around tesco's.

is there ever a right time to tell someone the name they have chosen is terrible or is it always best to not say a thing.

i can see his whole life being spoilt by this name (yes it is that bad)

Nothing wrong with Henry. Nice. classic. Mild and innofensive.

Did I spell inoffensive wrong? Or now? Mumsnet has ruined me. I never used to be scared of such things.

ShinyDysonHereICome · 03/03/2008 21:38

Oh I love the name Henry

Oliveoil · 03/03/2008 21:38

wtf is wrong with Henry?

weirdo

mazzystar · 03/03/2008 21:38

Henry?
Gosh that's a very normal name to get upset about. I know 3 or 4 little boys called that. Call him Hal. V cute.

artichokes · 03/03/2008 21:38

I like Henry. But if you don't you could call him Harry which is the traditional diminuitive.

Habbibu · 03/03/2008 21:38

Just look at this thread and think what it could have been...

BarcodeZebra · 03/03/2008 21:38

Ooops.

Too late for my last post.

What's wrong with Henry you great fool?

Could have been oh so much worse as I think we've proved.

fletchaaarr · 03/03/2008 21:38

Henry is fine - not to everyones taste, but it ain't Hamlet or Haardvark

Why do you dislike the name Henry?

I mean, I vetoed it myself for ds because at the time I taught a spectacularly Horrid Henry , but as a name it's pretty inoffensive & unlikely to cause shrieks of derision/outrage in Tescos!

juliaroberts · 03/03/2008 21:39

she has mentioned she might use "harry" as his every day name, i dont mind that as much.

Blimey, what on earth is wrong with Henry? You go ahead and tell her it is a terrible name, you deserve whatever you get. It is a perfectly nice name.
Though I prefer Horatio.

peanutbear · 03/03/2008 21:40

Isnt he going to end up a tad confused

BarcodeZebra · 03/03/2008 21:40

OK. It's obviously your surname that's the problem. Is it Penry?

Lulumama · 03/03/2008 21:40

obviously you are being very unreasonable

I mean.........you're called after a film star and a QVC presenter for fucks sake

liahgen · 03/03/2008 21:43

whilst expecting dc2 hubby said

""if it's a boy we're calling him Henry!!!"
this from a man who hadn't glanced in the general direction of pg since conception.

My reply, " no way, my sister has a lizard called Henry"

dc2 is a very lovely 10 yr old Henry, and suits him perfectly.

fab name,

Hulababy · 03/03/2008 21:44

Henry is a perfectly nice and normal name Can't see why it would be considered to be so terrible.

Be careful giving nicknames though, His mum might not appreciate it.
