How often do you have team catch ups?

MintTeaIsMyFav · 13/09/2023 14:30

We have team catch ups 3X a week over teams and I just think it’s too much. Some days I want to not have to get ready and not be chatty but I’m forced too. I wouldn’t mind but they are extremely awkward no one really has anything to say.

how often do you have them in your team?

Informally on MS teams chat daily, in person 1-2x weekly

One with our manager- work related, priorities of the week, notices etc.

One without manager- starts off with anyone who needs any input/support from the team being able to ask for it, always end up just being a casual catch up and we dial off if we don’t have much to day!

We all work on multiple projects simultaneously. Each project team has its own meeting schedule. Most are once a week. Some are every other week.

VeridicalVagabond · 13/09/2023 14:33

They're scheduled every week, realistically they're more likely to happen once every 2-3 weeks. I can't imagine we'd have anything to catch up on multiple times a week.

UsernameWentAWOL · 13/09/2023 14:34

We don't.

BarleySugars · 13/09/2023 14:34

Once a fortnight. I'd prefer weekly but not more than that.

Ghastisflabbered · 13/09/2023 14:41

We have them daily for 30 mins - but with different agendas so there’s never one where there nothing to say.

so beginning of the week is well-being, what we’re working on and where we’re going to be that week. Then the next day will be project stand up - so updates on projects, blockers etc - anything that you might not be able to resolve with the specific project team/isn’t relevant such as who do I speak to about x.

then towards the end of the week it turns into IT issues and discussion about what we’re doing at the weekend.

But we’re all fairly remote and may only go into the office every couple of weeks - so we’ve used these daily meetings to create the equivalent of the 20 mins of chat at the beginning of the workday that most people have with their colleagues.

As a new starter in the team I found it invaluable in getting to know people and what they’re working on and their likes and dislikes - I’ve worked in other teams in the same company who only have a weekly team catch up and it’s definitely noticeable that new starters integrate more slowly in those situations.

CMOTDibbler · 13/09/2023 14:42

Scheduled weekly, actually happen monthly

Gnomegnomegnome · 13/09/2023 14:44

Daily for around 30 minutes but they are very much needed in the role. It’s more of a handover.
We do a 3 hour catch up once a week.

CandyLeBonBon · 13/09/2023 14:45

Twice a week

Jammydodger1981 · 13/09/2023 14:47

I catch up 1-1 with my team once a week each and once a week we have a catch up all together and these last an hour. Once a week we catch up with a wider team but this is normally pretty short and around 20 mins. We work in the office 2 days each so I’d never see some of them otherwise!

TheChosenTwo · 13/09/2023 14:48

Once a week with various teams which is enough (so 3 regular weekly ones for me as I’m in 3 teams). We can always get hold of each other inbetween times but these are set each week in the calendar for general catch ups.
Also have one social 20 minute team one that our whole department (15 of us) are invited to on a Monday morning just for a bit of chit chat, strictly no work chat, which I sometimes go to but often don’t - depends on my inbox on Monday morning!

Saltybanana · 13/09/2023 15:04

Once a week catch up between Team Leads, COO and CEO - quick catch up on each other’s projects, but mostly informal and usually ends with a chat about what we’re each doing at the weekend (they happen on a Friday morning).
Me and my colleagues chat via WhatsApp during the week if we want to, then we email throughout the week about specific projects.
Works for us…

LakieLady · 13/09/2023 15:04

Weekly, for 30-60 minutes over Zoom, plus an all-day team meeting every 4-5 weeks.

We're all WFH or out in the community, so we'd never see each other otherwise. And we work in welfare rights and need to discuss cases to be sure we're all adopting the same approach.

ShadyPaws · 13/09/2023 15:07

Never as we can't have a full team one

tokennamechange · 13/09/2023 15:09

Once a month! And tbh they rarely last for the half hour they are scheduled for.

Also have a 2hr larger team meeting (comprised of the several teams doing the same job) every 2 months which is a bit more official.

But our caseloads are completely separate to the individual with no overlap so there's not as much to discuss as there would be somewhere where you work more collaboratively.

My old job we had one once a week and tbh 90% of it was just everyone listing what they were doing that week which was entirely irrelevant to everyone else!

ScarletWitchM · 13/09/2023 15:14

Weekly with my team on Teams to review past week and what’s on for the following week. Monthly meeting at the office.
we are a small team who all work on separate projects so I have teams calls daily with other stakeholder teams as well.
I don’t mind as means I can WFH and can do other work while on the meeting

fleur89 · 13/09/2023 15:16

Weekly team meetings. Project meetings are ad hoc among the smaller working group and revolve around client deadlines

MammaTo · 13/09/2023 15:16

We have a daily one for about 15 mins, then a weekly 121 with manager, a separate well-being meeting once a week and then a monthly formal progress/review 121.

It’s an absolute farce!!! All forced corporate bullshit so managers can evidence their wage rather then actually working.

BellaBellla · 13/09/2023 15:20

Once a fortnight generally, sometimes once a month. Most of our team are pretty self-sufficient and interact often anyway, so anything more than once a fortnight would feel like overkill.

DinaofCloud9 · 13/09/2023 15:21

20 mins team meeting every day.
Catch up with manager once a month but can always arrange more if either party wants it.

Well if you were all in the office together you would. Just because it would happen naturally.

It didn't.

Huddles 3 x a week (Mon, Wed, Fri)
I enjoy them otherwise I’d not talk to anyone some days

fishfingersandtoes · 13/09/2023 15:56

Twice yearly.
