It was also on loose women I swear they get their extreme stories off here!

Menopants · 11/09/2023 17:20

3 months! Nation of mingers

LunaMay · 11/09/2023 17:25

I do mine every 2-3 days. Every now and then i do a good long hot wash. Washing in hot water isnt that common here in Aus i dont think? Noone i know anyway, Cold Power for the win!

One of my first posts on Mumsnet was asking how often everyone washes their bra. That was an eye opener!! I did it because i felt a bit gross after a conversation with a friend but walked away feeling pretty good after some of the responses 😆

There's another great thread at the moment about towel age, with some people still using towels that are 30-40 years old.

I wonder how the two factors work out in practice. Does washing delay or hasten dilapidated towels?

I know that only using a towel once is bad for the environment but surely there is something reasonable between 1 time and 3 months? I think a week is good, although guest/hand towels need to be washed more often if they are being used for washing hands after going to the loo.

yellowsmileyface · 11/09/2023 17:32

I wash mine about once a week. I have wondered if that's too infrequent but my reasoning is that I'm always using it post shower when I'm at my most clean.

LizardLizard · 11/09/2023 17:48

Once a week, usually throw them in and replace them on Saturday morning.

criminallyvulgar · 11/09/2023 17:56

Saturday mornings for me too but I am quite sure that if I didn't pick up DH's towels at the same time we'd easily be looking at a 3-month scenario.

Hont1986 · 11/09/2023 17:59

Once a week. What's your AIBU?

BirdiePlantaganet · 11/09/2023 18:01

Omg. People are absolute mingers 😂

Even my student sons wash their towels and bed sheets at least weekly!

PickAChew · 11/09/2023 18:07

Drying yourself on a 3 month old towel must defeat the object of getting washed. 🙀

Princessbananahamock · 11/09/2023 18:07

I wash bed sheets once a week so why not towels ! Hand towels more often sod it shower towels once ish a week from now on.

They tell you that do they? 😆

gogomoto · 11/09/2023 18:16

3 months... makes me seem super house proud Grin. It might have been a month Blush

ApoodlecalledPenny · 11/09/2023 18:20

Once every three months is eye watering, but does explain a lot about travel on the tube. I’m a once a weeker on bedding and towels, so glad to hear I’m in the “sensible” zone.

megletthesecond · 11/09/2023 18:29

These 3 month towel washers probably have manky skin.

Nutterjacks · 11/09/2023 18:38

We each have our own towels in our house and they're washed weekly.

I'm struggling with the thought that more than 40% of people in the survey only wash them after three months OR MORE!

TheChosenTwo · 11/09/2023 18:41

Weekly washed at the most, more often thrown in the wash basket after 4 days or so but we quite often have 2 showers a day, we certainly were during the hot weather.
sheets every Sunday.

Sally2791 · 11/09/2023 18:41

Approximately weekly but wide tolerance

Topseyt123 · 11/09/2023 18:44

I change ours every three or four days, sometimes more often if we have a full house because the DDs are home.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/09/2023 18:52

Mine are done every 3 or 4 days, DH and the children's probably once a week.

No wonder a hot wash is recommended if people are doing it less often than once a week.

Riapia · 11/09/2023 18:58

megletthesecond · 11/09/2023 18:29

Their towels have possibly been used less than some people’s that are washed weekly.
😉😁😁😁

crumblingschools · 11/09/2023 19:12

I assumed the 3 month people are possibly students!

@BirdiePlantaganet are your sons at university? Not cheap to use the washing machines at DS's university, certainly wouldn't be expecting him to be washing bedding and towels at least weekly at those prices.

crumblingschools · 11/09/2023 19:13

@GrouchyKiwi why do you wash yours more often than the rest of the family?

Rubyupbeat · 11/09/2023 19:19

I wash ours once a week , on a boil wash. We don't share towels but have our own, except for the hand towels.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/09/2023 19:19

crumblingschools · 11/09/2023 19:13

@GrouchyKiwi why do you wash yours more often than the rest of the family?

The DC just have two showers a week at the moment (unless they're filthy) as they're still little enough for that, and I let DH make his own towel decisions. I will toss his in the wash if I notice it getting a bit whiffy, but we use different shower rooms so I don't do that very often.
