Global Warming Being Referred to as ‘lovely weather’

TaRaRaBoomDeeAy · 10/09/2023 07:13

What’s that all about, then?

OP posts:
Fifireee · 10/09/2023 07:40

Mumsnet has very little interest in climate change. The biggest response to a thread on climate change was the one about what people would refuse to give up for climate change!
Sad
People are desperate to get pregnant, to get help for getting their kids to eat/sleep/health even education but they have very little interested in what the future for these children will look like.
So I’m not surprised they’re voting like they are.
Their children are going to have difficult lives because of their apathy.

Warm weather in September isn't an unusual thing at all. It happens most years even before the days of climate change.

I understand where you're coming from @TaRaRaBoomDeeAy

If people say it to me I am honest and say that I am worried by the weather volatility we've started to see. I can't just be all 'yes, lovely weather' - I was brought up to comment on the weather but times change!

Climate change is proving sad to witness, I've been reading how much it's affecting young people emotionally.

TaRaRaBoomDeeAy · 10/09/2023 07:24

OK, but a week-long heatwave in the UK in September is unusual to say the least. I don’t think should be lauded.

Are you extremely young? Or not from the UK?

A week of warm weather in the UK in early September is so usual that we have an expression for it - an Indian Summer.

August is generally wet, at least where I live, followed by a second summer early September

midgemadgemodge · 10/09/2023 07:42

It's called Indian summer - yeah underplay things

Find me an Indian summer that's been so hot

yogasaurus · 10/09/2023 07:42

Ten years ago was exactly the same, I can see it from photo memories.

Warm weather in early September is nothing new.

HoogahToogah · 10/09/2023 07:43

UK september heatwaves have taken place in 1898, 1906, 1911 and 2016. Yes it's rare, but so is a blue moon, which we've just seen.

What do you personally think were causes of the heatwave in 1898, 1906 and 1911? I'm not a climate change denier, but I'm also not a climate change blamer for a few hot days in September.

So what impact would us all sitting at home weeping and wailing about how awful the weather is because of climate change actually have on climate change?

sashagabadon · 10/09/2023 07:46

We often have lovely weather in September. It’s actually a better month than august imo. Maybe lower expectations.
it’s lovely to see everyone having a good time after our wet summer

Porridgeislife · 10/09/2023 07:48

You can be shit scared of climate change and worried about what this means for much hotter places, whilst also enjoying the Indian summer we’re having.

uhOhOP · 10/09/2023 07:49

Can we go back to the bit where OP apparently doesn't know the difference between weather and climate? 🤣

TaRaRaBoomDeeAy · 10/09/2023 07:49

To Al, this saying a week long heatwave in September isn’t unusual in the UK. Could someone please come up with proof of this? Even better if it shows temps over 30 degrees. Thanks.

Haven't you read the posts above?

That was supposed to say ‘all those’. I’m an appalling type arse.

No one wants anyone to 'weep and wail'.

What adults need to do is make it one of the top criteria for casting a vote. Adults need to call for political action.

Parents who care where their kids go to uni or what vaccines they should have but don't care whether the government acts now on climate change are fiddling while Rome burns. Climate change is, unfortunately, going to completely fuck our kids' futures. Politically we can exert pressure.

Probably has but is blatantly looking for an argument

What was the awful summer about then?

Do people still not need to be told it's climate change. The clue is in the word change. This must have been explained 1000s of times on here.

Apart from the fact is has never happened before at these temperatures.

So we can only be happy when it pisses down now.
Any sunshine is bad.

TaRaRaBoomDeeAy · 10/09/2023 07:57

Look. I genuinely wasn’t looking for an argument but the climate apologists have said I am, so hey, I must be. It was a genuine enquiry. Not sure why people are so fucking defensive about a ‘bit of weather’, eh.

Yes it has. The hottest ever September day was in 1906 and 35.6 degrees. The difference between the previous September heatwaves and this year's is that this year's has been 1 day longer.
