Hi I'm sweltering in 30 degrees , inside is cooler at 24 with blinds drawn One of my cats is inside with me, the other an ex stray tomcat, black, is refusing to come inside apart from trips in for food or use his litter tray , he is resolutely sitting under a parasol in garden on a chair Aibu to think I should coax him in and shut the door to garden?

Earlier today my cat preferred to be in the conservatory at 39c than in the house 29c so not sure what he was thinking 🤔

Their forebears where desert animals so of course they love to lie in the sun; the hotter the better for most cats, despite the lovely thick fur coat.

One of my cats, sadly no longer alive, used to sit in the garden on a sunny day with her face held up to the sun, eyes closed, loving the heat on her face.

If you persuade your cat of his insanity ,could you come and talk to my dog? He's 14, for the whole of his life he will only eat his dinner if I feed it to him with a spoon. He won't eat from any bowl. My late DH told me I was mad and should just leave him , but dear dog would not eat from any bowl.

While all my other cats have spent the day lying on the floor or decking not doing much the stupid kitten (11 months) decided to sleep in our shitty conservatory - old style freezing in winter/unbearable in summer he's semi long haired and dumb and mince.

One of mine hates the heat but is obsessed with snow - he plays in it for hours - he's extra cross today.

My cat has developed a foot fetish this summer.

He licks bare feet
He rubs up against bare feet
He rolls around the floor with sandles/flip flops if you take them off when you sit down

BUT

Every now & again he bites a bare foot or ankle

It's like some kind of cat 🐈 roulette here

I rescued one (that no-one else wanted) with a foot fetish. He would run from any feet wearing black trainers or lace ups but become very interested in brown ones, slippers, trainers...
He would hide under the coffee table and wait until I went by, jump out and bite my foot and run away. Every morning.
He would stalk my slippers and jump on my feet and 'kill' them.
He would walk up the garden with me every morning (had a long, thin garden) and one place would go and hide in the bushes then pounce on my feet as I passed. Bite and run. I took to wearing boots and he bounced off.
He would sneak up behind me and bite the back of my heel and run away.
I bought a new pair of boots. Took them out of the bag and put them on the floor. He sniffed them, turned round and pee'd on them.
And, his best one was to saunter up while we were waiting for the kettle to boil barefoot in the morning, and pee on bare feet.
He gave me blood poisoning from repeatedly biting my ankle because I wanted him to go indoors and he wasn't having it.
He just had a thing about feet.
Apart from that he was great.

Only early spring here in Australia, but my two will be sunbathing in my room soon enough. I installed UV film so they won't get sunburned (they're indoor-only cats). These shots are from last summer. My bedroom's the hottest place in the house, north facing, but that doesn't deter them!

My white girl thinks she's Donatella Versace and loves to sunbake.

She has access to a netted balcony and I used to limit it when it was too hot which she hated. Now I just pull down the cafe blind to limit direct sun and she'll lay out there even if it's almost 40 degrees.

She'll let herself in for a quick respite if she finds it too much.

I have one chubby black cat with thick for and one who is half Abyssinian and was always a skinny minnie until she turned 12 or so (she's 13 now). This country doesn't get too hot for her, ever. I've seen her lying on a metal drain cover in the middle of summer.

Mine is out for about 23 hours a day at the moment.

She is not only outside but finding places in direct sunlight. That includes the centre of the road, it's a good job it is a quiet cul-de-sac.

She comes in for food and water.
