Depends if you are for our against putting them in, you haven't said.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 08/09/2023 20:04

Used to be snobbish about this but now I'm too hot and middle aged... Bring on the ice cubes

Eminybob · 08/09/2023 20:06

Not sure what your AIBU is, but they have their place.
For eg, when drinking the all inclusive white wine in Spain last week it was necessary to not make the wine warm and undrinkable Worthing 5 mins.
In a pub or at home in the uk not (usually) needed (I would probably make an exception in with weather. But otherwise would prefer not to water my wine down.

I do find more pubs do ask if you want ice. NO just keep it in the fridge please!

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 08/09/2023 20:07

white or rosé : NU
red : U

Eminybob · 08/09/2023 20:08

Sorry for multiple typos. Clearly my non-ice cubed wine has affected my typing.

TheTecknician · 08/09/2023 20:08

It would need to be a fairly robust wine e.g. Chardonnay rather than Pinot Grigio, otherwise you risk diluting it and spoiling the flavour, bouquet etc. I think red wines generally would be more tolerant of ice cubes but the cooling effect may again compromise taste.

Ferretbitme · 08/09/2023 20:08

I drink nice-ish wine and I love an ice cube!

mynameiscalypso · 08/09/2023 20:08

If you're super organised, make them out of the wine you're drinking.

FFSWhatToDoNow · 08/09/2023 20:08

Make the ice cubes out of wine….

CaveMum · 08/09/2023 20:09

Best tip I was given - freeze grapes. That way you can add them to wine to cool it down without diluting the taste. Some people use those reusable plastic ice cubes but I think they make the drink taste, er, plasticky.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 08/09/2023 20:10

Frozen grapes are the best option!

Haveallthesongsbeenwritten · 08/09/2023 20:11

I put my red wine in the fridge during the summer. Just so its a bit cooler.
dont judge until you try.

LookItsMeAgain · 08/09/2023 20:12

If I want to cool down a glass of white wine, I would use grapes that I've washed, dried and the put into a lunchbox into the freezer instead of watery ice cubes.

HeddaGarbled · 08/09/2023 20:13

Definitely! Hot day + very very cold and slightly watered down white wine = bliss.

Germolenequeen · 08/09/2023 20:15

Yanbu - I'm sitting in a car atm waiting for my DS to finish a gym session.

I have a nice Vino Verde in my shopping bag & will def be putting a couple of ice cubes in the first glass - and be plonking the bottle in the freezer 😉

Far too much faff.

At least with ice cubes in wine - white, rose - I get my recommended 2 litres of water a day LOL.

And in this heat wave ice cubes in wine are great.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/09/2023 20:20

I put ice cubes in wine if I don’t like it much! For instance when the wine in question is the only one available (obviously white or rose only!)

Frozen grapes are genius though. Or those plastic ones that don’t melt

Although with crappy wine I might want to dilute it a bit

The best thing to do is have cold red wine and mix it with equal amount of cold Coke cola.

It's called a Calimocho in Spain.
I have fond memories of drinking calimoncho on a beach in Spain 😁

Hobbes8 · 08/09/2023 20:28

As someone who once accidentally froze a bottle of wine then defrosted and drank it anyway…I wouldn’t recommend making ice cubes out of wine.

Amwondering69 · 08/09/2023 20:28

I always have ice cubes in my wine . Would rather not have wine if no ice cubes!

Missedmytoe · 08/09/2023 20:30

You need a lolly like this.

Another one who always has ice cubes in white or rose wine, even in the middle of winter.

Makes it taste nicer and gives you a bit of hydration at the same time!

illiterato · 08/09/2023 20:32

Chicken rosé and a couple of ice cubes. If it’s wrong, I don’t want to be right!

JaneJeffer · 08/09/2023 20:38

Chicken rosé?
