AIBU 🤣

In my early 20's with all the pomposity of youth I firmly adopted the position that life was too short to finish a bad book or bad bottle.

I have adhered to both beliefs religiously over the last nearly 40 year's.

I adore red wine and port.

But I also enjoy a very nice dry white.

My husband doesn't agree with how chilled I like it, destruction of it, yada yada🙄...I want it very chilled, occasionally with ice if the temperature is sky high.

I hate warm wine.

I couldn't care less what the protocol is.
I want a cold white during the summer months.

He can find chill another bottle 😄

Thelonelygiraffe · 08/09/2023 21:15

I have been adding ice cubes to my wine this week!! Too hot not to.

billy1966 · 08/09/2023 21:16

I freeze grapes too.
I also have steel cubes that I freeze which are ok.

I find when out socialising with friends and drinking lots of white wine, ice is a hydrating blessing.

Brendabigbaps · 08/09/2023 21:16

10 yrs ago I would have been a massive NOooo!
now, aged 48, it’s a must in white wine.
a cube in a glass chills it down a bit more.
I've convinced at least 8 friends that this is a better option without saying anything. All under 40! I think it’s the condensation on the glass that turns them

ManyATrueWord · 08/09/2023 21:18

Plastic ice cubes were invented for this.

PeriwinkleForever · 08/09/2023 21:20

Rosé piscine ✅
Calimocho ✅
Sangria ✅

but you’re all missing out of you haven’t tried the authentic Spanish summer tipple - tinto de verano. Chilled red wine with ice topped up with lemon Fanta or sparkling water.

personally I recommend a 70/30 ratio of red wine to lemon Fanta.

try it and I promise you won’t look back.

Best tip I was given - freeze grapes. That way you can add them to wine to cool it down without diluting the taste. Some people use those reusable plastic ice cubes but I think they make the drink taste, er, plasticky.

Edited

I freeze green grapes for wine, slices of lemon and lime for gin. Sometimes put some frozen berries in my G&T. We also have a freezable sleeve thing that you keep in the freezer and place round your bottle to keep it chilled once out of the fridge.
Nothing more disappointing than a lukewarm glass of white.

The best thing to do is have cold red wine and mix it with equal amount of cold Coke cola.

It's called a Calimocho in Spain.
I have fond memories of drinking calimoncho on a beach in Spain 😁

Yes - my step father lived in Spain for a few years and loved this!

Most hot countries cool red wine - it's meant to be drunk at room temp not hot!

Lifeinlists · 08/09/2023 21:23

I'm in Paris atm and it was 36°c yesterday. I was given a whole glassful of glaçons to put in my white wine, which I did. Lifesaver.

SchoolQuestionnaire · 08/09/2023 21:24

Can’t drink rose without ice - a habit picked up from a very wine savvy posh friend!! I also often have a dry white with ice. A Sauvignon rather than a nice Chablis so it doesn’t really count.

ghostyslovesheets · 08/09/2023 21:24

Not alcoholic but German Spezi - half coke half orange Fanta - with ice

Chicken rosé and a couple of ice cubes. If it’s wrong, I don’t want to be right!

This in spades.

pepino · 08/09/2023 21:28

Yes to ice cubes and some lemonade... in red wine. Tinto de verano it's called (summer red) and drunk in Spain in the summer. Or if I'm feeling particularly devilish I swap the the lemonade for coke, kalimocho which is from the basque region.

Porridgeislife · 08/09/2023 21:29

Jancis Robinson did an everything you wanted to know about wine Q&A in the FT a few weekends ago and she said re adding ice cubes to wine “Absolutely. Especially as wine is getting stronger & stronger.” As you were!

DustyLee123 · 08/09/2023 21:30

Yes to ice cubes. Drink it however you want,

SpamFrittersYouSay · 08/09/2023 21:31

Ice cubes in wine is a staple in our house. Why wouldn't you?

😂i know exactly which wine you meant immediately from reading this and it will henceforth be chicken rosé in our house!

And yes I put ice in it.

noodlezoodle · 08/09/2023 21:40

Not what you asked, but if you need to chill wine quickly, soak a couple of paper towels in water, wrap them round the bottle and stick it in the freezer. Will be acceptably cool in approximately 7 minutes.

mynameiscalypso · 08/09/2023 20:08

If you're super organised, make them out of the wine you're drinking.

Ohh, that's is actually a great idea!

Davros · 08/09/2023 22:03

Even if wine is freezing cold I put ice in. Sometimes one cube but often more. I like it

I've never heard of this, but I quite like the sound of it.

PinkRoses1245 · 08/09/2023 22:09

Not in any decent wine.

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 08/09/2023 22:42
