To be looking forward to autumn

I know we haven’t had much of a summer this year but the heat this last few days has been too much! I love autumn walks and cosy jumpers etc. Any one else looking forward to it?

My classroom was stifling this afternoon. I felt sick with the heat. Looking forward to it being a tad cooler in next couple of days.

Regholdsworthswaterbed · 07/09/2023 21:09

No. Autumn is the most overrated season of them all. It mainly just rains.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 07/09/2023 21:13

Autumn is the best. I've been ready for it for about a month.

Lammveg · 07/09/2023 21:13

I love the idea of Autumn - cool and cosy - but in reality it will be windy and wet and I'll have to swill my dogs off and dry them after every walk 😫

enchantedmysticalforest · 07/09/2023 21:15

I love autumn too, I hate summers here, and am always happy when autumn starts.

Legale · 07/09/2023 21:20

Yes! Wind, snow, pouring rain, ice... as long as it isn't hot weather I don't care! Luckily I think we're over the worst of it now, at least our area is predicted to get cooler and cooler from tomorrow onwards.

sezzer87 · 07/09/2023 21:21

No I hate it. I'm already hating the darker evenings. I live for the warmth, bright long evenings where when everyone is home from work and school we can go to the beach and have a bbq . The grey skies make me depressed.

jellybe · 07/09/2023 21:23

Bloody love autumn! Can not wait for it to be proper autumn- crunchy leaves, snuggly jumpers and hot chocolates. Bring it on.

TwilightSkies · 07/09/2023 21:25

Me!! This horrible heat makes me feel awful. Autumn is my favourite season. I love the fresh, crispy air in the mornings!

RedVanYellowVan · 07/09/2023 21:26

I bought a gorgeous jumper last year but have never worn it. I can't wait for it to cool down enough for me to get it out of the drawer.

Comedycook · 07/09/2023 21:26

I dislike autumn not because of it in itself but because I know winter is looming and I absolutely hate winter. It's the darkness that really gets me rather than the cold. Horrible miserable time of the year. And I loathe Christmas. I kid myself September and October are basically still summer so you'll see me in flip flops and other summer clothing. November and December are hellish for me. I'm relieved when it's January, Christmas is over and I wait for spring

VerityRoss · 07/09/2023 21:27

Nope love eating outside in the warmth, with a cool glass of wine and an ice cream. Love this weather so much, autumn will be along before we know it

Comedycook · 07/09/2023 21:28

snuggly jumpers

Are you a pre schooler? Snuggly jumpers....wtf

Comedycook · 07/09/2023 21:29

Reminds me of a post about this topic ages ago...a poster was fed up with the endless "cosy" shite...she said something like, I'm not ill, I don't need to be cosy. I totally agree.

Jealous. We’re predicted to have it until Monday here in Oxfordshire.

Been in SE England for over a decade and love Autumn and Spring here compared to the Summer. I would even go as far as saying I prefer the Winter over the Summer because at least I can layer up and it doesn’t get anywhere near as cold to where I grew up. It barely gets below freezing temps and when it does, it is still humid where it doesn’t feel cold to me.

CannotDarn · 07/09/2023 21:30

People have such strong views on seasons here. This thread will be soon full of people berating others for loving hot chocolate and cosy pyjamas. And then in the winter others crave the sunshine and are told why the summer is awful.

Seasons come and go. I don’t give it much thought really. I feel for people with SAD though.

Fizbosshoes · 07/09/2023 21:33

No we've had almost no proper summer weather throughout July and August, I'm not going to complain about a week of nice weather (although I do think it's unfortunately timed for kids going back to school)

Bloom15 · 07/09/2023 21:34

No- we've had about 7 nice days in the whole of summer.

Also, autumn is always wet and miserable

"Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness
Close bosom friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch eaves run;
To bend with apples the moss'd cottage trees,
And to fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
until they think warm days will never cease,
For summer has o'er-brimmed their clammy cells."

Ode to Autumn, John Keats

OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia · 07/09/2023 22:16

The thought of it rarely lives up to the reality though...

Lottapianos · 07/09/2023 22:22

'And I loathe Christmas'

You're my kind of people 😁 I'm fine with Winter and I love January, but would happy ditch Christmas

Yes I'm ready for Autumn now. I want to be able to go to bed early with a good book, sleep right through coz it's not sweltering, and cook dinner in the oven instead of eating frigging salads all week

I hate it when you start to get that slight chill in the air in the mornings...just makes me think I'm going to get a cold soon. As I do every bloody autumn.

I could have written this post. November is far and away my least liked month, although I seem to mind autumn a little less as I get older.

In early autumn there are harassing, stinging, nasty wasps everywhere. I have a phobia of them. The leaves aren't usually 'crunchy', they are flaccid, decaying, slippery and damp. Some November and December days are like perpetual twilight: it never seems to get properly light.

And hot chocolate is gross.

Same!

And me! And my old faves that I wear every year, looking forward to getting them out again.

I've got a lot of work on in Sept but then Oct is looking lighter, work-wise, so I'm gonna get my head down and power through September and look forward to lazy afternoons curling up with some good spooky books in October
