Postman took photo of me

Ringringringringringringringbananaphone · 07/09/2023 13:11

Posting here for traffic - does anyone know if postmen/women (for regular post office mail) are supposed to take pictures with people in? I find my regular postman super-creepy anyway (he calls me love/darling/sweetheart, all within the few seconds transaction of handing over the post, and he has made comments before about what a “beauty” my five year old is). So in general: super creepy.

But today, I swear he took a surreptitious photo of me as he was handing the post over , and I’m very weirded out. It would only have been of my boobs downward as he didn’t point the device at my face, but I’m sure he took a photo. He has done this once before, and left me questioning things in my mind, but he’s always just immediately on his way out of the gate so I haven’t had a chance to say anything to him. I will, next time!

But in the meantime can any posties or knowledgeable people tell me what’s normal/if it’s acceptable to take photos of people when delivering the post? I was thinking of contacting the sorting office, but then he would know it was me that made a complaint and he knows I’m a single parent with a 5 year old (or at least he probably assumes that, as he has never seen anyone else here). It’s really bothered me.

As a postie myself they take photos to confirm its been delivered. As for being called "love" etc hes being friendly. Jeez!! Also saying your daughter is beautiful is a compliment. Stop trying to be offended and make a non drama out of something.

Ghosttofu99 · 08/09/2023 07:57

If he uses his official scanner thingy to take the photos than I’m pretty sure you have a right to ask to view a copy of them so perhaps you could ask the sorting office about this to confirm the content/reason. If he was taking the pics for nefarious reasons id have thought using the actual post office system would be taking a bit of a risk as id assume they are uploading onto an official app/site. But maybe a postal worker could confirm that.

gemma19846 · 08/09/2023 07:58

Wow nothing like over reacting!!!!

Birthdaycake369 · 08/09/2023 07:58

@fixyourgardengate Yeah I do that with signature ones sometimes and then have to go back and knock on again!

honestly people need to give their heads a wobble. He's probably just a friendly guy. calling you sweetheart is not creepy!!! honestly this is just horrible poor man.

Yeah, just a 'friendly guy'.

They always are, aren't they?

He's overstepping and potentially photographing the op. At least be open to the idea he could be out of order - or do we now think low level sexual harassment never happens?

gemma19846 · 08/09/2023 08:01

Why not just say "dont get me in the photo please?" Ive said that before. Non issue! Talk to him rather than running to mumsnet and calling innocent hard working people "creepy"

Leab23 · 08/09/2023 08:09

All these things could be non related at all, but I get why it's making you suspicious. Don't dismiss the odd feeling he gives you because there is something to say for gut instinct, in this case it could have all been harmless but his vibe makes it seem like something more. Maybe just try and keep your distance, make a note of any other instances that happen in future in case it becomes a more obvious problem. If he's making you feel uncomfortable on your own doorstep that's not okay, hope nothing else comes of it!

At least four different posties have already confirmed that they don't have access to any photos taken by the scanner. What more do you want?

HerMammy · 08/09/2023 09:33

If he took a photo with his scanner that's the only photo it allows, as once taken that's the job complete. If he genuinely has taken a photo it would need to be with his personal phone. Also with scanner once taken and complete the person has no access to these photos.

guzzleandstuff · 08/09/2023 09:43

Normal - shows you collected or were aware of the delivery of parcels.

So many people say they never received the parcels or they were stolen from their doorstep - it's a huge problem for delivery companies. . Did you leave instructions to leave parcels on front step (therefore taking the risk of stuff being stolen yourself) or not?

ITS HIS JOB TO PHOTOGRAPH THE OP... for god sake.

Ohhhh Cop on. Ted Bundy dressed up as a postman taking sexualised pictures of some housewive's parcels, leggings and slippers on his work phone. I know there are weird fetishes out there but fully clothed torsos and footwear accompanied with amazon parcels would not be one of them.

People clenching and getting their knickers in a twist over ridiculous shite? I'd say there are a million websites for those images.

Thelittleweasel · 08/09/2023 11:00

@Ringringringringringringringbananaphone

If you are unhappy with his attitude to you please do get in touch with the delivery office manager and raise these concerns. You can do so kindly not wishing to get him sacked [for example]. Sadly there are many people who do not know how to behave!

rainbowstardrops · 08/09/2023 11:17

What a fuss over nothing! He just sounds like a friendly postie.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 08/09/2023 11:48

Love, darling and sweetheart aren't creepy, sexist or outdated. They're just terms people use when speaking to people. A woman at work calls customers sweetheart all the time.

As said repeatedly, he's not being creepy, he's doing his job.

If it beeped then he was scanning something, as the letters were at chest height he pointed the pad there.

Taking photos is normal to show post hasn't been nicked. I've had one, photo I could see online after, which was summer so it was all boob and leg in the background of the parcel on the floor. Nothing weird there, it was clearly of the parcel.

That made me roar laughing :)

TopEndChops · 08/09/2023 16:50

Another thing to bear in mind is that on bright, sunny days you can't even tell what is in the photo you're taking, you just point and hope its got everything in it should have and nothing it shouldn't. Yeah, another postie here.

MumTeacherofMany · 08/09/2023 18:18

It's proof of delivery

MMAS · 08/09/2023 18:25

They need proof of receipt - his downwards photo is not of you - more of the parcel, ground and most likely your feet.

CaroleSinger · 08/09/2023 18:29

Is he using his own personal mobile phone or the hand held work device that he won't have access to the pictures from anyway? My first thought here is slight over reaction.

Emz6103 · 08/09/2023 18:41

People are strange poor post man cannot call anyone love or check is parcel snap because it's "creepy" yet will happily post themselves all over the net on insta n FB whilst entertaining sickos on only fans as their perfectly acceptable day job......whilst idolising people like cardi B who happily admits drugging and robbing men with no consequences at all yet heaven forbid the post man calls someone love. As for the picture who knows I expect he was checking to see if the pic was ok before you removed the parcels. Unless you have amazing boobs and you think he'd risk his job to get a spap shot of them? It's actually like a dystopian nightmare
