It's Charlie Bigham's

Not Charlie Bingham's. Love it or loathe it, please note there's no N.

Don't mind me - was expecting Chinese when dh went out to get it. He's stopped off at the pub with friends. No Chinese - we live very remotely so takeaway is a very rare treat - but he got Charlie BiNgham meatballs instead.

Lighthearted - just glad I'm not cooking after my first day back with the children after summer (teacher). Though I am wondering what time dinner will be as DH and dinner are still at the pub!

Do you have a patio?

purplecorkheart · 05/09/2023 20:30

Personally I would be telling him to leave the pub and pick up the Chinese assuming that he isn't drinking alcohol and is safe to drive. The meatballs would be going to the freezer

SleepingisanArt · 05/09/2023 20:51

I don't get why people rate CB so highly. I've had a couple and felt they really weren't worth the price - tasteless and badly seasoned....

Aserena · 05/09/2023 20:53

They’ve got shedloads of calories, more than a Macdonalds, some of them!

BranchGold · 05/09/2023 20:56

If I was on a promise of a Chinese, and got ready meal meatballs at gone 9pm I’d not be a very happy camper.

jallopeno · 05/09/2023 20:57

He turned up with meatballs? How random

Legale · 05/09/2023 20:59

I've seen them on the shelf, but they seem very overpriced for what's a fairly u healthy bland-looking ready meal. 🫣

PrincessHoneysuckle · 05/09/2023 21:03

The tikka masala is gorgeous

Hummingbird89 · 05/09/2023 21:05

Agreed, very overpriced ready meals!
Also things like this drive me mad OP so I’m with you on the no N- that’s almost worse than him not bringing you a lovely Chinese 😁

Mumwithbaggage · 05/09/2023 21:20

@KrisAkabusi I've had zero drinks. It's just when someone says they are going for Chinese a meh overpriced meal you could concoct from the freezer doesn't cut it!

I really like Charlie Bigham's (I do call ot Bingham though as somehow easier to say).

But, if my husband went to collect a Chinese and went to the pub with some meatballs instead I'd be raging!

DuploTrain · 05/09/2023 21:26

I have to admit I did think there was an N.
I think it’s implied, and will continue to pronounce it 😁

Poonmig · 05/09/2023 21:27

Agree that the curry dishes are really nice.

Wishitsnows · 05/09/2023 21:28

The chicken pie is amazing, rises beautifully! Get him to get that next time.

KezzaMucklowe · 05/09/2023 21:29

I haven't tried Bighams or Binghams.
Would be seriously pissed off about the Chinese.

Mammyloveswine · 05/09/2023 21:40

Op it's my first day back with the kids today and I ordered my own Chinese as DH useless!

Id have been gutted with a frozen meatball dinner bless you!

BringMeTea · 05/09/2023 21:45

Charlie BigBums surely OP? I quite like a macaroni cheese for 2 when carb craving...

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 05/09/2023 21:48

Charlie Bighams lasagne and the Tikka are exceptional in my opinion. The lasagne with French fries and coleslaw (trust me it’s a game changer) are one of my favourite dinners. Yes they’re expensive compared to other ready meals but they are truly a world apart from any others. I find leaving them in the oven an extra few minutes to crisp up makes them even better 👌🏼

ihatethecold · 05/09/2023 21:57

Love the fish pie. I couldn’t make a fish pie for the money those cost.

BHRK · 05/09/2023 21:58

The individual pot pies are delicious.. we also like the curries

Alighttouchonthetiller · 05/09/2023 22:09

The tikka masala is lovely. This being MN there will be lots of horrified shrieking about packet dinners and processed food etc. You are meant to knit your own dinners from homegrown alfalfa sprouts.

I would be ringing a divorce lawyer though if I had been promised a Chinese and was presented with a packet dinner instead.

Mumwithbaggage · 06/09/2023 00:10

Obviously it wasn't one of those mn what am I doing with this man threads but I do feel a bit underwhelmed. Slightly soggy pasta, not much sauce and a couple of meatballs. It was OK.

Chinese tomorrow then! Or else!

It’s Charlie Bigguns at our house!

mrsfollowill · 06/09/2023 00:19

We've tried most of the range- never had a bad one- really handy for nights you just know you won't have time or be bothered to cook from scratch- Promise of a Chinese takeaway though- replaced by meatballs! the audacity I'd be proper fumming at that!
