Mumsnet acronyms you misunderstood

Not an AIBU, just posting for something light-hearted. I still read ‘STBXH’ as ‘shithead bastard ex husband’, even though I’ve subsequently worked out it means ‘soon to be ex husband’ 🤦‍♀️ Are there any MN acronyms you’ve misunderstood?

What? It doesn't? I always thought people were saying 'name change for this', it didn't make much sense to me either.

What does it mean?

I thought NC meant name change. I did wonder how changing your name would help eg in a toxic MIL situation (at least I knew what MIL meant!)

Sorry I was replying to this, darn MN and their new icons. What does it mean if not name change?

BIWI · 04/09/2023 23:53

NC is used to mean non-contact or no contact

Famouspersoninmyhotel · 04/09/2023 23:56

What’s Aunt Flo???

NC is used to mean non-contact or no contact

I get that on some occasions, but when it's put it at the beginning of an OP '.. NC for this as I don't want to be identified ' surely that means name change?

I always think STBXH is Stupid Fucking Bastard Ex Husband. Even though I know it's not an F.

What’s Aunt Flo???

It's an antiquated way of saying you're having your period.

My great grandma used to say it, just like she'd say it was 'rag week' in the days when women used rags when it was their time of the month because sanitary products weren't invented.

It didn't compute that AF meant Aunt Flo for ages because, to me, it's such an old-fashioned term.

Not on mumsnet but when I was pregnant with my first I joined a forum for mums due in December 2005. Loads of them were talking about having MS and I thought it was so weird that so many pregnant women in one group had multiple sclerosis. It was ages before I realised that when they said MS they meant morning sickness!

Waves! I was also on another forum due December 2005 and thought the same!

For ages I read CF as cock-fucker. Even though I knew what it stood for.
