Mumsnet acronyms you misunderstood

Not an AIBU, just posting for something light-hearted. I still read ‘STBXH’ as ‘shithead bastard ex husband’, even though I’ve subsequently worked out it means ‘soon to be ex husband’ 🤦‍♀️ Are there any MN acronyms you’ve misunderstood?

They are abbreviations or initialisms, not acronyms.

I never know if BPD is borderline personality disorder or bipolar disorder on here.

At work, FWB means full weight bearing (orthopaedic surgery). Took me a while to work out the MN version!

For some reason I used to think HTH meant ‘hand to hold’ 😂

He didn't refuse to answer the question. MNHQ were feeding specific questions to him during the webchat, so that they could get through as many as possible, and they didn't ask him the biscuit question.

(Although later on he did come back and answer it - sadly I can't remember what his answer was!)

The one that I always have to think about is GPs - are they talking about their family doctor, their grandparents or - as sometimes has happened - their guinea pigs?

I always thought LTB was 'look to breakup' I guess I was on the right lines even if my version doesn't read well!

Despite knowing it's cheeky fucker, my brain still always reads CF as cunty fucker initially!

I thought NC meant name change. I did wonder how changing your name would help eg in a toxic MIL situation (at least I knew what MIL meant!)

The meanings of ‘acronym’ include abbreviations and initialisms - those are actually the first given meanings in the OED. It doesn’t just mean things pronounced as a word like NATO or RADA.

It took me forever to work out what IYSWIM meant. I couldn't work out why all these people were swimming.

I still don't really understand the DH DD DS business. What if they aren't Dear they are wankers?

I thought it meant Hit the Highway (ie telling the OP they are being annoying and to go away).

I don't understand the use for ANY of them. Especially why everyone is so "dear" when, given the majority of posts, they clearly fucking aren't.

When I was trying for my first child, AF was mentioned on tons of the conception threads.

I didn't understand why Any Fucker was involved in so many people's efforts to make a baby.

Then it twigged that AF meant Aunt Flo.

I try to avoid using them..but unfortunately I still have to try and make sense of them. I originally thought CF was cunt face. As in CF neighbour, which I thought was a little strongly worded!
