Budapest? Partner won’t go.

I’ve never been and recommended it to my partner as a weekend break. He’s said no because of what’s happening in Ukraine.

Aibu to think he’s being ridiculous? He said travel insurance will be ridiculous.

Does he know that Budapest isn't in Ukraine?! We went in February, it was fine and travel insurance was a normal amount.

Men really love to think they know what they’re talking about when they actually have zero information. What does your husband know about travel insurance costs to Budapest? You need to do some research and find out what the reality is of traveling to Budapest right now because neither of you have any idea, even though he definitely thinks he’s the expert.

That didn’t even occur to me when I visited Budapest earlier this year. And travel insurance wasn’t more expensive than for other EU countries.

No, he’s being ridiculous! I’ve been to Romania and Poland in the last 18 months to places much closer to the border than Budapest, and there were no issues with getting insurance. Budapest is a great city break, loads to see and a compact city that’s easy to walk around.

To be fair Hungary shares a small border with Ukraine. But Budapest is fine.

I work In Budapest and go there every month for up to two weeks at a time. It’s perfectly safe and to be honest they are pro Russia and do not support Ukraine in the slightest (horrible but unfortunately true) so zero worries about any overspill from the fighting there tbh

I went in June and paid £4 odd for travel insurance. It’s a beautiful city, highly recommend going!

Hungary was blocking Ukraine’s progress into NATO, though I think that may have been resolved now.

I said to her, it's just a bit of sea between there and Siberia. You want to be careful anywhere past Lincoln imho.

happy to stand corrected, I have just checked.

what exactly does he think could happen in Hungary?

i have also just checked my cheap travel insurance policy which is basically fine for all eu countries plus norway and a few others. So he’s wrong about travel insurance.

A small part of it borders Ukraine but Budapest isn’t close to the border at all. It’s a beautiful city and he’ll miss out. I was in Poland last month which borders a lot more of Ukraine and travel insurance wasn’t more expensive because of it and it certainly didn’t feel like I was close to a war zone. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about

I literally showed him on the map and said if anything Budapest is closer to Slovakia .. I’m really surprised as he’s not dumb but damn
