To hate the sun and hot weather?

notnowpls · 02/09/2023 14:32

I feel like I'm the only person on the planet to absolutely hate hot weather. I see YouTube vlogs, people on tv programmes in direct sun, on holiday in hot countries and it doesn't bother them at all whereas I get really stressed if I'm too hot! I'm dreading the weather hitting 25 degrees next week and I won't be able to leave the house. Anything above about 15 degrees is too hot for me and I personally can't wait for the cold weather to come back!
Does anyone else feel this way or is there something wrong with me!?

OP posts:
EconomyClassRockstar · 02/09/2023 23:32

I think if you live in the UK, that's a pretty normal response. I moved to a hotter climate and it took me a good two years before my body was acclimatized to the hotter summers. And now, you can never get me away from them! I LOVE SUMMER!

tillyandmilly · 02/09/2023 23:33

I hate it as I get heat headaches with anything over 24 degrees! I live also in the hottest part of the UK - the South East - think I will move up North in the future!

Yoghurtpotsatdawn · 02/09/2023 23:35

I’m the same, I’ve always said that I think I have a Summer form of SAD

same here. It makes me feel low and miserable. As well as guilty for not enjoying the weather and wanting to do outdoor things. I hate it. I overheat so easily and have hyperhydrosis of my head, face and neck, so as soon as I start to get slightly too warm, I’m dripping with sweat, which is uncomfortable and embarrassing. The good thing is that being September, we’ve not got potentially months of this ahead.

Brandyb · 02/09/2023 23:36

No one seems to have noticed the OP said she couldn't take temps over 15C... That's a bit weird. Surely we all like low 20s and can agree on that? (See above)
I think if you're suffering at 16C I'd honestly be worried you have a health complication.
Other things to note - climate change is happening, let's just hope we're still enjoying moaning about being "hot" when it's 15-20C in a couple years...

Exactly. Claiming they can't stand more than 15 degrees C is absolutely bloody ludicrous - and just suggests they've got some kind of health issue. The OP needs to see her GP. Not being able to take any temperature higher than 15 degrees C is bizarre and worrying, and not normal......

On the other hand, it could be as simple as the fact that some people just absolutely love to moan. 'Oh, it's too hot. Oh it's too cold. I hate winter. I hate summer. I hate the snow. I hate the rain. I hate the wind. I hate Christmas. Blah, blah, blah. I hate everything.' 🙄 Some people are just such mood hoovers! Fucking hell!

They can't be like this in real life - surely to goodness?! They would be insufferable to be around! Shock

I'd love to move up North but my DH (70s) would never move and we have too many attachments here. I do worry that we are in the worst part for climate change.

I was so happy that we got away with it this year, dodging Europe's horrendous heatwaves, and now here we are - forecast to be 29 "feels like" 33 degrees.

It's not just the heat, it's the humidity and the brightness and feeling hemmed in by neighbours in gardens and with their doors and windows open and all their noise. At least the sun sets earlier and rises a little later than in summer so there is that

It's only the same as some (loads of!) people who moan the second it gets a bit chilly, how they can't function and how the cold weather makes them feel ill. Somehow that's socially acceptable but saying you hate the warm weather isn't.

Me too op. Absolutely dreading being in the office this week that gets stupidly hot anyway because there's no AC or fans. Also impossible to keep the flat comfortable, so I'm going to be sleep deprived as well. Bloody awful.

I'm glad I'm at home next week as we have people who still put heaters on so it will be unbelievably warm in the office.

Although the weather has been changeable this summer (to put it mildly) I've not found it cold. Warm and wet. Which leads to dilemma as what to wear - need jackets etc in case it rains, but really too warm for them.

TheLostNights · 03/09/2023 18:09

Rising temperatures all through the week, up to 30C towards middle and end of week. Dreading it. Been bad enough today.
Surely on record for hottest September even going by this week alone. Though I had escaped it this year 😔

Lovelybeansfromnextdoor · 03/09/2023 18:31

chillidoritto · 02/09/2023 23:30

Not necessarily! It's going to be 29 degrees in London next week!

Suffering is putting it a bit strongly but I can sympathise.

The best weather is often in May and June. August has been better though. Thankfully I was overseas in July :)

I keep a close eye on the forecast and if the weather is going to be shit, I just go elsewhere!

It is going to be 29 in London after a summer of low 20's temps and a shit load of rain!!

Isn't the Uk miserable enough without hoping for shit weather all year round?

I said it upthread, I feel sorry for those who do enjoy some semblance of summer and need to be outside with kids.

The UK is a miserable country. Posters like OP, remind me why.

It will last not a week.

Get a grip.

TheLostNights · 03/09/2023 18:51

I will be saying the same when people start complaining about the cold @Lovelybeansfromnextdoor . Works both ways.
I just can't tolerate it, makes me feel really unwell. Everyone is different.

Oldermum84 · 03/09/2023 19:10

Same OP.

Some people are really rude on here calling you miserable just for liking cooler weather. That's just mean. People should be able to like different things than other people without being castigated for it.

Crapsummer2023 · 03/09/2023 19:21

Frankly, if you can’t handle anything over 15C you need to make an appointment with your GP. Healthy people should be able to withstand a few mid-20s days

JaceLancs · 03/09/2023 19:24

25 ish is fine if I’m at work
I’m currently happily on holiday 33 at noon today - but all I’m doing is swimming and sunbathing
I don’t mind cold weather but can’t cope with the amount of rain where I live - makes all my joints ache

It's nice to see I am not alone!!
I haven't seen any other posts on here complaining about the hot weather, in fact I have only seen posts from people complaining that there hasn't been enough sun this year!

To the people that have commented saying that my post is pointless - your comment is also pointless, don't ya think?

I will continue to complain about hot weather for as long as I live and I can't wait for my rainy and cold holiday to the Lake District in November 😁

Agree with all of this. I’m just ok up to 15c, as you are, after that uncomfortable to say the least. I get irritable, tired and feel pretty depressed. SAD as you said, only in the summer. I get fed up with people saying things like “isn’t it lovely today “, “lovely to have some sun at last (even when we’ve had sun by my reckoning for the previous week at least). I just let them know that no it isn’t lovely. I am more or less always warm so I think that I start off feeling warm or even hot when others are feeling cold, so they just warm up, whereas I feel like I’ve got a fur coat on and in the sun! So I’m baking.
So I have to spend hot days indoors behind closed curtains (house faces south west unfortunately).

But it’s the whole thing, the expectation that everyone loves the bloody sun and heat. And yes we are supposed to live in a temperate climate, which we did in the UK many years ago, but it is not a temperate climate here any longer. I’m in the south east and we get weeks with no rain. Last year and this year especially. The ground in the gardens and parks have had huge, long, wide and deep cracks in the earth which don’t close up from one year to the next because we are not getting enough rain in winter. In other areas many floods. Wildlife suffers from lack of water. Plants die. My lawn turns a lovely shade of yellow/brown.
And don’t get me started on not being able to sleep.
if it’s cold there are several things one can do to get warm. If it’s hot it’s much harder to get cool.
Right Whew! Feel better now.

PS. I love the rain.

Icannoteven · 03/09/2023 21:49

Yanbu. The sun and heat makes me tired, grouchy, sweaty, headachey and sick. I have no motivation when it is sunny and avoid the outdoors like the plague.

When it isn’t hot and sunny I’m very outdoorsy. I love the rain, I love the snow, I love the mist. I just find the sun overbearing and oppressive. All the forced jollillity about the sun being out makes it so much worse. Everyone referring to it as ‘the good weather/the nice weather’. It’s not the good weather!

girlfriend44 · 03/09/2023 21:51

These threads have been done to death.

It will be the same in Winter. I hate the cold, does anyone else wish it was Summer.😂

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/09/2023 21:51

Totally normal to have a preference as to temperature and weather. But we live in a country with seasons, so you do need to learn to live with the ones you don’t like as much.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/09/2023 21:52

The thing I don’t like is how any kind of slightly unusual weather (not even that unusual) in this country seems to mean everything has to stop and not work, eg trains.

Yujismum · 03/09/2023 21:57

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · Today 21:51

Problem is the seasons are no longer as they used to be. Many years ago we really did have certain weather in certain seasons, we do not have that now. We didn’t have temperatures of 30 or 40c. We didn’t have ground that had dangerous huge cracks in. 1976 was horribly hot though not 40c, but a bit of an anomaly. Now due to climate change things are getting much more distorted.

nothing wrong with you at all. I'm counting the days. Everyone is different. I hate it too. I've really been relieved over the weather over the summer.

I'm the same, love the action of wind and scudding clouds and rain showers. Gives me energy. I hibernate in the heat as much as I can. Good and bad weather is really a matter of opinion, everyone is allowed to feel how they feel about different weathers.

It's 30C here today and hotter tomorrow and Thursday. It's so disgusting, feel sick and sweaty.
