To hate the sun and hot weather?

notnowpls · 02/09/2023 14:32

I feel like I'm the only person on the planet to absolutely hate hot weather. I see YouTube vlogs, people on tv programmes in direct sun, on holiday in hot countries and it doesn't bother them at all whereas I get really stressed if I'm too hot! I'm dreading the weather hitting 25 degrees next week and I won't be able to leave the house. Anything above about 15 degrees is too hot for me and I personally can't wait for the cold weather to come back!
Does anyone else feel this way or is there something wrong with me!?

You're not alone.

marshmallowfinder · 02/09/2023 16:11

I'm just the same OP. I can tolerate up to 20, then I just overheat massively. Being in the direct sun is impossible. I absolutely hate the constant discussions about how lovely it is. If you're too hot, you're too hot. I am dreading it too.

OddBoots · 02/09/2023 14:59

Lots of people don't like it but thankfully in this country there is such a variety of weather no-one ever has the weather they least like for very long.

That’s true!

DinnaeFashYersel · 02/09/2023 16:15

Come to Scotland- we rarely see the sun and getting above 25c is rarer still.

Megapint · 02/09/2023 16:17

Have you not been on mumsnet long op?. Pretty sure you're in the majority around here based on the weekly.'I hate summer' threads

Lehenaghmore · 02/09/2023 16:19

It’s dry weather I don’t like, or at least not much of it at one go. I left a job in the ME and moved to the west of Ireland. I like drizzle.

There's always plenty of threads start up when it's hot about hating the hot weather so you are definitely not alone.

notnowpls · 02/09/2023 16:58

It's nice to see I am not alone!!
I haven't seen any other posts on here complaining about the hot weather, in fact I have only seen posts from people complaining that there hasn't been enough sun this year!

To the people that have commented saying that my post is pointless - your comment is also pointless, don't ya think?

I will continue to complain about hot weather for as long as I live and I can't wait for my rainy and cold holiday to the Lake District in November 😁

astarsheis · 02/09/2023 17:29

Well if you live in the UK you won't really have to worry about it 😀

Finefinefine · 02/09/2023 17:33

Oh we had the cosy autumn Brigade just posting the other day! Don’t worry about it OP you’ll be snuggling up in a blankie with your pumpkin spice soon!

I am loving it 🥰🥰🥰

These posts are a regular occurance and stupidly pointless. Autumn is on its way. Be happy.

Not half as pointless as your response, ironically...

TheLostNights · 02/09/2023 18:22

Absolutely hate it. Set to get to 29C this week in London and already finding it tough. This is what most people dream of but I cannot handle it. Makes me feel so irritable, unwell and uncomfortable.

tigger1001 · 02/09/2023 18:27

I am not a heat lover. Early 20's is hot enough for me.

Being too hot really zaps my energy and focus.

MadisonAvenue · 02/09/2023 18:41

notnowpls · 02/09/2023 15:09

I also think I get seasonal depression in summer and not winter, the warm makes me SO miserable! Bring back costs and oversized jumpers!

I’m the same, I’ve always said that I think I have a Summer form of SAD.
Anything over 20° I can’t tolerate. I hate being hot so it restricts what I do. I’ve looked at the temps for next week and we’re forecast 26° (but feeling like 30°) and sunshine so I won’t be able to go for any runs. I keep well hydrated and drink plenty of water but always get a heat headache too.

Dinobooklover · 02/09/2023 18:41

Me too op. Absolutely dreading being in the office this week that gets stupidly hot anyway because there's no AC or fans. Also impossible to keep the flat comfortable, so I'm going to be sleep deprived as well. Bloody awful.

Jbrown76 · 02/09/2023 21:23

I hate it. And what others consider mild is hot to me. I hate not being able to sleep because of the heat, the light and the noise of people, sunburn, crowds, heat, sweat, just hate it. I've enjoyed the last few weeks where it has been cool, now I just feel miserable

I spent some time in the UK this summer.

So yeah, I find your whining pointless.

We were cold and miserable in July. It was unpleasant and a washout in terms of days out. JULY!!!

You must be bored OP to take to MN and make such a post. I saw my dsis and friends suffer during school holidays given state of the weather. But yeah you bang on about how you hate the sun 🙄

PS, you have months and months of cold and wet weather ahead of you now it's September.

MakeADecision · 02/09/2023 22:20

I hate it too OP

dannyufcfan1 · 02/09/2023 22:39

Honest to goodness, I'm so glad we don't get real heat in this country. I wouldn't enjoy it myself, but the real reason is I couldn't cope with the bloody moaners.

The Aussies have it right by calling us whinging poms. It's been a shocking summer, now here comes a 'hot' spell and people moan about that.

There is something called SAD - seasonal affective disorder. There is where people get depressed in the autumn and winter. Autumn because of the days getting shorter and winter because of the cold. This is the more common version. But like you described, there is also the opposite version where you get depressed in the spring and summer. Spring because of the days getting longer and summer because of the heat.

For me, I like the sun but not the heat, so it's autumn for me.

PleaseGiveMeBackMySummer · 02/09/2023 23:20

🙄 The slightest bit of summery weather and the 'I hate the heat' threads begin. Get a grip FGS. It's been Autumn for 2 months! (Throughout July and August!) And we now have a splash of summer! Just enjoy it and stop complaining! It's only been 21 to 23 degrees C today FGS.

YABU @notnowpls !!!

CoteDOpale · 02/09/2023 23:22

Nope. I’m the same. So is DH.

We thought it was cooling down, but the weather app has just informed us it’s going back up to 30 odd degrees. Fuming.

IDK where you live but it absolutely has not!

Hasn’t been under 10 degrees (overnight) in our area for months, and far more than that in the day.

MintJulia · 02/09/2023 23:29

Can I ask, if you hate feeling sweaty, how do you exercise?

I run and I do a class, get sweaty in both. I've stopped worrying about it. I bathe as soon as I get home, but actually I enjoy the way my skin feels after, thoroughly clean & glowing.

Not necessarily! It's going to be 29 degrees in London next week!

Suffering is putting it a bit strongly but I can sympathise.

The best weather is often in May and June. August has been better though. Thankfully I was overseas in July :)

I keep a close eye on the forecast and if the weather is going to be shit, I just go elsewhere!
