Even though the weather has generally been pretty pants this summer I sort of feel ready for autumn now. Do you set goals for yourself going into a new season? What’s on your to do list for this autumn?

OP posts:

Really appreciate the changes and season.
Put away summer clothes and sandals with a pang.
Buy some waterproof trousers and ensure I get outside for three hours at least each day.
Collect conkers and acorns for our mud kitchen.
Go blackberry picking (already ticked this off once!)
Create leaf art
Nature watch
Pumpkin picking (sorry, commercial, American blah blah. Don't care I love it!)
Buy glow in the dark safety gear and torches for walks.
A decent hot chocolate and chai tea syrup needs to be purchased.

Sulk mainly. I like summer and I feel cheated this year.

PrancerandDancer · 29/08/2023 21:02

I am so ready for Autumn it is my favourite time of year.

The colours, the nature, the nip in the air and the cosieness. Can not wait for 1st Sept on Friday :D

tinkertots · 29/08/2023 21:34

I have found my people! Bring on dark nights and candles!

Spottypineapple · 29/08/2023 21:35

'autumn clean' and nesting in the last few weeks before my second daughter arrives. Then hunkering down for cosy newborn autumn/ winter days :)

It's my favourite time of year too!

chillidoritto · 29/08/2023 21:45

I have SAD so autumn feels a bit like a Sunday. It might not have been the best weather in the UK but I have had plenty of days in the garden (and was overseas during the weeks when it was especially bad). I have been in shorts since June. Hate the day when I have to put jeans on. Hate the dark evenings, they make me anxious. I'm OK up until Bonfire night but after that I enter a very dark place. Roll on 21st December when we begin the climb out!

Doingtheboxerbeat · 29/08/2023 21:46

I love summer but I absolutely adore autumn and the nights drawing in 🤗 . But mostly, I like the wardrobe because it's just easier to prepare for weather, you are 90% sure is going to be arse- as opposed to the unpredictable 'summer'.

Doggymummar · 29/08/2023 21:48

I've got on last year's Xmas jammies and a hot water bottle. Best time of YEAR

Edited

I'm really looking forward to putting on my winter bedding and fleece pajamas 😳.

FoodFann · 29/08/2023 21:54

Yes autumn!! Can’t wait. Big big wardrobe clear out (the ultimate clear out of all clear outs!) and a house move are my jobs for autumn. Followed by a new job. It’s going to be a very busy autumn, but I’m feeling good, autumn is my season and I love it entirely.

LodiDodi · 29/08/2023 21:56

Mixed feelings. I love autumn, it's so pretty. And the produceof the season is lovely too. Also love Halloween which is coming up. But the winters in the UK are so long and I feel a bit of dread going into that. Once we get past New Year and all the twinkly lights go it's so bleak.

halfpasteleven · 29/08/2023 21:57

It feels like Autumn tonight... I love Autumn but with the Summer we've had, it's going to be a long Winter..

ilovesooty · 29/08/2023 21:59

I haven't given up on the hope of some kind of decent summer like weather in September.

electriclight · 29/08/2023 22:00

I change my wardrobe over and start planning the items I want to buy.

I make everywhere cosy - throws, candles, lighting, autumn wreath.

I start thinking about packing the garden up, but won't do it just yet.

It's my favourite time of year too. I live rurally and enjoy the start of every season but particularly autumn. I love the new school year, shorter days, fabrics, food, Halloween, bonfire night, even the weather!

Labbingtons · 29/08/2023 22:01

This afternoon running through the woods, it felt like autumn really is around the corner. We have had a really busy summer full of socialising and travel. It’s been wonderful, but I’m ready for a few months hunkering down, getting used to new school routines, enjoying cosy evenings in front of the burner with a Labrador or two for warmth, and quiet weekend suppers and board games with friends. And crumble every Sunday ‘til Easter!

It’s payday Thursday and I’ll be treating myself to a Feu de Bois (lovely candle) and new slippers.

Tiespin · 29/08/2023 22:05

Plant bulbs and cut back the garden ready for winter.

RampantIvy · 29/08/2023 22:23

It only took one post for hot chocolate to be mentioned, and three posts for cosiness.

Really appreciate the changes and season.

Except that autumn began in July here, so it doesn't feel like there is a change of season. The only difference is that it is getting dark much earlier.

I'm with you @chillidoritto

DD is grown up and left home, so now school year/university start of term/new starts, just downhill to cold, grey gloomy weather, commuting in the dark, high energy bills, cabin fever from being confined indoors because I hate walking about in sideways driving rain. I love a bright autumn day, but they are as rare as hen's teeth.

This was me last year! DD2 arrived in early November. Newborn life felt so cosy compared to DD1 born in a heatwave!! Enjoy!

NeedTheSeaside · 29/08/2023 22:43

I LOVE Autumn.

But I like it to follow Summer! It does feel very autumnal, but my brain is confused because it's still waiting for summer. The odd nice day does not a summer make.

I like winter too! Fact is, after living overseas where there really aren't 'seasons' & certainly not 4, I love the seasons & changes. It's one of the main things I missed.

I like to gather autumn leaves, acorns, berries etc. i have a few bits that come out in Autumn, but I don't find many shop bought things very appealing at Autumn.

I might order some wool & start a autumn/winter blanket. But squares to do for Woolly Hugs first.

thanks for this ive also got a bit of SAD and i think this checklist will help :) love this thread

RampantIvy · 29/08/2023 22:47

We don't really have any seasons any more, just chilly damp weather, with a warm spell when the days are longer. Last summer was the exception, but this year we had no spring. Winter lasted from autumn last year until 9th June this year, then it was suddenly hot for two weeks, then it became autumn with a few warm days.

If we had four clear seasons it would be so much better. Unlike the autumn and winter lovers I don't look forward to getting constrained bundled up in several layers to keep warm, and I don't have deep enough pockets to not worry about keeping the house warm in cold weather.

CoteDOpale · 29/08/2023 22:47

YANBU! I can’t wait, hoping we get a proper autumn.

CoteDOpale · 29/08/2023 22:51

Also looking forward to some actual sleep, while we’re here - I think that’s part of my excitement!
People are saying we haven’t had a summer but these temperatures surely say otherwise. Above 20 again today.

DH and I both struggle with heat and we’re shattered.

Yes! Just need ‘snuggle’ now to complete the bingo card! 😄

Purplebunnie · 29/08/2023 22:56

Already bought my first pumpkin decoration from Hobbycraft and planning how else to decorate the house for autumn 😂
