Zero tolerance for people

Timetoflower22 · 29/08/2023 13:27

As the title states, starting to get to a point where I have zero tolerance for rude, self-indulged, annoying and stupid people. I have a friend whose completely selfish and cannot understand the concept of what it means to be a decent human being and I'm sick of people like that. People who consistently talk about themselves, belittle others or is just in general thick as shit with no concept of how the world works.
I happily now just ignore these types of people. Am I becoming an old grump!

cccarol · 29/08/2023 13:49

No your not i totally agree we seem to have more people and kids that are uncaring and full of self importance we need more caring loving families that would make life easier for everybody xxx

WhyEffingBother · 29/08/2023 13:49

I love you

LemonLimeDivine · 29/08/2023 13:50

YANBU - welcome to the club 😉

pastypirate · 29/08/2023 13:50

Not everyone has the same social education. Yanbu

chocolatemademefat · 29/08/2023 13:53

No. As I get older I spend time with the people I want to - life’s too short to pander to arseholes. When my husband was dying I found out who my real friends were - I have no room in my life for uncaring people who disappear when the going gets tough.

Right so the obvious answer to this would be to model caring and understanding right? Not to go around belittling people, calling them 'thick as shit' and acting like they are beneath you. You are displaying exactly what you say you have zero tolerance for.

BeachHutCornwall · 29/08/2023 14:30

I completely agree with you. A person can only take so much before you REALLY start to see through people.

So, out of interest - (ignoring the thick as fuck remark) - if someone is belittling and arrogant - how best to handle them?

Surely the best way is just to stop seeing them?

Just that-remove yourself.
Zero drama

I think you are spot on, there.

Ive been considering how to deal with a difficult situation so thought id ask. Not wanting to hi-jack so i will hop off again now

Valerie23 · 29/08/2023 14:46

I've never had any tolerance for people!

There is a difference between losing temper and being assertive and I've found by standing up and not taking any crap, things have been righted or gone my way as I will not back down.

Wiccan · 29/08/2023 15:09

I agree OP . I always thought it was best to give people around me a little room and take it all with a pinch of salt especially family and friends. Actually I've realised that I have put up with quite a lot of shit over the years from them and I'm really quite invisible to them and without me doing all the work and making an effort there really isn't much of a relationship. So I am actually taking steps to not have them directly in my life . TBH I wish I done it sooner .

ManateeFair · 29/08/2023 15:16

I don't really understand why you would ever have become friends with people like that in the first place.

Wiccan · 29/08/2023 15:19

Because some people don't show their true colours until later on maybe .

WildFlowerBees · 29/08/2023 15:22

No, yanbu it's called discernment. I have no tolerance for people like that either I steer well clear.

Conkersinautumn · 29/08/2023 15:25

Yes, you're an old intolerant grump. So how can you change your attitude?

Notamushroomwearer · 29/08/2023 15:25

ManateeFair · 29/08/2023 15:16

I don't really understand why you would ever have become friends with people like that in the first place.

That's a bit unfair and lacks understanding.
People change, we change or it can be a slowly boiling frog situation.
If you are a loyal friend it sometimes creeps up on you.

HelpMeGetThrough · 29/08/2023 15:32

No you are not a grump. I have no tolerance anymore. If someone pisses me off, or upsets me in any way, they'll be told in no uncertain terms where to go.

No need to put up with crap and drama.

Wakintoblueskies · 29/08/2023 15:38

A friend of mine lost a number of family members over a short period of two to three years. When I read this, I thought of her. She has cut contact with all but her closest friends despite reaching out to her a few times. . I wonder if she thought I wasn’t worth her time as life is too short. Makes me wonder.. so although I understand where you’re coming from, I don’t always agree.

Henryhover · 29/08/2023 15:45

I have a zero tolerance for people who don't say thank you when you pull in to let them drive through.. got into a habit now of waving my hand and shouting 'thank you'.. I've had some looks today 🤣

In the end though the only person wound up and grumpy is you.
I go with they are probably having a bad day, their cat/ DM/ Dfriend might be ill or died.
They didn't sleep etc
It's just not worth the stress.
All the zero tolerançe/ get my own way/telling people where to go sounds like you are controlled by how others behave in a negative way.
I go with -nowt to do with me and bumble on.

Wiccan · 29/08/2023 16:37

I don't think it has anything to do with being grumpy. I think it has everything to do with being able to take stock of your life and to not waste time on the tossers who take everything and add nothing .

ClaraBourne · 29/08/2023 16:40

No, I'm with you,

I have a very few people I can tolerate these days. DP says I expect too much. I think respect is a basic requirement I'm no longer prepared to negotiate on.
