Also food/drink you used to hate..
Im a previous complete caffeine head, now I can't even stand the smell of coffee.
Used to think beetroot was vile stuff, can't believe it's one of my favourite foods now.

OP posts:

Gluten! From mid-30s on it gave me joint pains, fatigue and painful rashes. I miss it so much.

bellac11 · 29/08/2023 08:19

red wine - heartburn and migraine
tomatoes - heartburn
bread - painful joints and swelling

TonightMatthewIamgoingtobecher · 29/08/2023 08:23

@PoshPineapple but did you eat the ham?

TigerRag · 29/08/2023 08:23

Milk. Too much just makes me snotty

TheHateIsNotGood · 29/08/2023 08:25

Single Malt whisky (or any whisky) - post menopause it made me uncontrollably sneeze and I just went off it.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 29/08/2023 08:27

Coffee - makes me horrendously jittery and stops me getting to sleep at night even if I drink it in the morning.

Coffee again (but even decaf) and dark chocolate - gives me stomach issues.

Any more than a small amount of dairy, especially cream.

Red wine or any fortified wine - gives me terrible acid reflux. This one is since I had my dc in my mid 30s. The others are all in the last few years (I'm 51 and in early peri, I think).

HorsePlatitudes · 29/08/2023 08:29

I’ve gone off booze which I’m delighted about 😇

TonightMatthewIamgoingtobecher · 29/08/2023 08:30

Fish and chips although a treat make me feel sick and gives me terrible acid reflux also strawberries. Can't have too much pizza either reflux and bloating.

CoffeeCantata · 29/08/2023 08:32

Not quite the same, OP, but I can't eat liquorice any more - not because I don't like it but because apparently it's really bad for high blood pressure.

No more Pontefract Cakes or Bertie Bassett!

Anoushkaka · 29/08/2023 08:37

I can't stomach Pringles. They were my go to Friday night snack dipped in dairy lea cheese.

Orange juice gives me heartburn.
Tea makes me nauseous.
Love mushrooms.

BoogLoaf · 29/08/2023 08:38

Interesting there's a few mentions of fish and chips, the last 3 times I've had the fish I've been sick afterwards, must be the fat/batter

Peanuts now give me crippling stomach pains

Popcorn now makes me bloated

Certain chocolate, get a terrible headache. Ate some mint Matchmakers at Christmas and had a horrendous headache the next day ( it was the whole box though, so..)

Alcohol

My stomach isn't what it used to be

highfidelity · 29/08/2023 08:42

There are hormone receptors in our stomachs and gut, and as hormones fluctuate and decline as we age, how we digest and tolerate food changes, even things that we have eaten daily and without issue for decades. For some, it's the only indication that they're going through perimenopause.

Exploring FODMAPS during this time can be greatly beneficial. For many, once through menopause, things do settle back down.

the80sweregreat · 29/08/2023 08:44

Alcohol ( can't drink more than one or two small
glasses)
Bread ( only in moderation )
Pasta
The usual suspects

Pork scratchings. I can still stomach it but my teeth are cracking to bits so I have to lay off 😭

Yes! I feel your pain, also pork crackling. Love it but teeth can't hack it😭

Hello. My human posted in AIBU earlier because I got myself stuck in a neighbour's house after breaking into their bendy cat flap.

She posted crab sticks through a gap in a window for me to eat. Crab sticks. After all these years, she doesn't know I bloody hate crab sticks. I understand your pain.

Love,

The Cat

🤣🤣🤣

Cymbal · 29/08/2023 08:55

Spicy food. I can no longer tolerate the taste, and I definitely can't cope with the digestive problems.

Mild curries give me tummy ache but I still eat them occasionally.

I used to love fish and chips but they make me ill because of the fat.

Raw tomatoes are sometimes fine and sometimes not, it's a lottery! Cucumbers are indigestible these days unless I remove the skin.

merrymelodies · 29/08/2023 08:59

Green pepper. I used to love munching on it but now it gives me dreadful indigestion and stomach ache.

@PoshPineapple but did you eat the ham?

No, the smell of crab sticks ruined my appetite

TooOldForThisNonsense · 29/08/2023 09:19

Tailfeather · 28/08/2023 22:46

Has anyone tried the sausages in Heinz Baked Beans as an adult?! REVOLTING! What are they made of? They were my favourite as a kid!

I actually still love them 🙈 I just try and forget that they are made of lips nips and arseholes

Tailfeather · 29/08/2023 09:21

@TooOldForThisNonsense It's the consistency! Like weird meat foam!

BoogLoaf · 29/08/2023 09:22

😂They definitely taste different from the ones I ate in the 1970's. I used to love the tinned meatballs in gravy too, wouldn't touch them now!

VeridicalVagabond · 29/08/2023 09:29

Broccoli. I've loved broccoli since childhood, inexplicably in the last few months I've got the massive ick for it and can't eat it without gagging.

Bean sprouts I used to loathe, they used to make me gag if I even got one in my mouth. Now I can happily scran a whole bag down.

Weird isn't it how your tastes change for seemingly no reason?

Mrsjayy · 29/08/2023 09:30

I have stopped buying broccoli .it tastes of stalk! It honesty Is horrible nowadays.

Springduckling · 29/08/2023 09:34

Mayo - causes stomach pain.
Anything with root ginger in, at least i think this is the problem. Causes stomach pains.

Whiskey. Don't like the taste anymore or after effects. I can still remember liking it when younger.

GrandHighPoohbah · 29/08/2023 09:36

Sweets, cakes and fudge. I used to love them but gave them up due to perimenopausal bloating and weight gain. Now I get a headache within a couple of hours of eating them.
